no remedies, i just passed it with great pain for weeks. some of the worst times of my life.

but i do know what caused mine (calcium oxalate), so maybe i can offer a tip on preventive care. I was eating tums anti-acid tablets everyday like they were candy. with added calcium, oh and of course i was vegetarian so yep leafy greens.

good luck brother!

Did the same thing and with the same result. Have passed maybe 10 stones in the last year. First one was scary, as you don't know what it is. Now, when I feel it coming on, at least I know what it is. I am thinking of suing the Tums people. I have found that putting a towel around your waist and with a drying off motion put pressure on the kidney with the towel. That helps to force it down the tube and eventually out.

Maybe you guys who are getting so many stones should talk to a dietitian. The diet plan you're outlining (Tums/antacid + leafy greens) seems guaranteed to make more calcium oxalate stones, not help in reduction.

Was that instructed by your doctor? Why not just the acidulated water? What will olive oil do for your kidneys, grease their skids?

It's gotta be acidulated water, that is what is proven effective for breaking up the calculi.

Flomax is what they gave you, yeah?

Try to stay as active as you can.

some advice -

1) (ignore) don't worry. that's going to make you tighter. the fact is, there's only one chain of events that's going to happen, and it's going to happen sooner or later. you can't change it, all you can do is accept or refuse to accept the ride. everythnig you can't do now is just going to have to wait, end. of. story.

2) they catch here and there along the journey.. not necessarily in the same places. it may break up and change shape and pass some places easy. what i'm saying is you may get an intense pain in your back, side, lower portions, balls, then it may move on and you may not get a head's up.

what this means is you should urinate as gently as you can. it may have come loose and if you use full force it can rush out and give you a scrape on your urethra. that's not going to kill you, it's a minor annoyance for a few days afterwards, but you can avoid it by easing into every slash gradually.

hope that helps :)

Lotsa water, lotsa morphine, lotsa screaming. I had 7.5mm stone stuck above bladder, had to be surgically removed. Pissed blood for a month on and off until surgery. 2 oxys every four hours for 6 weeks. My grandfather had baaad stones - Mom said he'd drape himself over side of bathtub to try and pressure them out. Lotsa booze, lotsa screaming. Mine are calcium stones. Good luck - no fun in sight for you.

I would hope that you know your blood type... or can request it from the hospital.

I wouldn't be surprised if you check the Blood Type Food lists and found that you and your family were eating a lot of foods that aren't compatible with your blood type.

Just had a roomate from 20 years ago have their leg amputated below the knee... infection out of control because no circulation. They've been eating foods that directly affect their circulation for decades. *sigh*

That... and it's absolutely criminal what the feds deem 'safe' for tap water.... and a damn shame that so many people drink it. What's the water like around your area?

Watched people walking around with heavy metal poisoning sores on their hands and feet... obvious. Came from them drinking the local water for decades... can't tell em it's not good for em... *sigh*

Food choices and water quality are the grease that keeps your body moving.... feed it what it needs and you'll feel soooooo much better in a while. :D

p.s. I passed a kidney stone when I was 13... didn't know wtf was happening, was too scared to tell anyone and didn't find out what it was until I was almost 30... when someone was describing what they'd just gone through. Talk about emotional scarring. ROTFLMAO! Could have done without that one. :D (Hint: On a three day bus trip... do NOT eat only apple pies and milkshakes from McD's)

Yep... totally diet related. Without finding out your secretor status... O should just avoid dairy altogether. :(
Ya need Venison, Buffalo, Antelope, Elk... That kind of stuff. :D My little girl is O and she gets downright cranky after 2-3 days without animal proteins. Doesn't matter if she's getting plenty of protein from plant sources. Don't try being a vegan if you're O... you're just shooting yourself in the foot.

I'd be interested in seeing the results from testing the water. *shudder*

You're being robbed of the fullness of life people. *shrug* You have no idea how good life is... until you've operated at optimum health and performance. Not gonna get that following standard diet 'advice'.

It's like your body is a ferrari and all you've ever given it for gas and oil is cast off crap. Eat right and you'll feel like you've fueld up with racing gas and quality oil/grease for the first time in your life.

I walk around all day seeing people having issues that are directly related to diet.... even just had an old roomate have their leg amputated below the knee. Circulatory problems aggravated an infection.... completely diet related. *sigh* Their doctors don't even know what blood type they are. *sigh* (again)

Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, supposedly better than lemon juice. eat lots of mushrooms they have oxyalic acid Eat raw veggies, cooked veggies can help form kidney stones sometimes, changes the oxyalic acid in veggies. Eat as many RAW fruits and vegetables as you can.

May sound counter intuitive but....

"Oxalate Restriction in Hyperoxaluria

Most people with calcium oxalate stones should not avoid oxalate-rich foods unless the doctor specifically recommends a restrictive diet. Oxalate binds with calcium in the intestine, which may actually reduce calcium absorption. Some studies, in fact, indicate that eating foods containing oxalates and calcium together may reduce the risk of stones. Most of the foods that contain oxalates are very important for good health. Limiting oxalates may be particularly harmful in people with bowel disorders in which there is malabsorption.

Foods high in oxalic acid include beets, soy, beet tops, black tea, chenopodium, chocolate, cocoa, dried figs, ground pepper, lamb, lime peel, nuts, parsley, poppy seeds, purslane, rhubarb, sorrel, spinach, and Swiss chard.
Foods containing moderate amounts of oxalates include beans (green and wax), blackberries, blueberries, carrots, celery, coffee (roasted), concord grapes, currants, dandelion greens, endive, gooseberries, lemon peel, okra, green onions, oranges, green peppers, black raspberries, strawberries, and sweet potatoes.

Lemonade in mass quantities...no B.S....Not a real Doctor but I play one on TV....Doobie ChowserMD
Acidulated water, doesn't need to be (perhaps shouldn't) sweetened as lemonade. But at this point I'm repeating myself.

Hydro, doctors aren't dietitians, and they shouldn't try to be. At least, that was the argument I grew up hearing (it was worse than that). See, along with Mom being a dietitian, Dad's a doctor.

No vegetarians here - "vegetarian" is actually very old Indian name, roughly translated as "Can't hunt worth shit". Leaner meat on the table 4 outta 7 days a week.

Grampa and I are the only 2 my Mom knows that have the "stones", and I've been lucky to avoid repeat episode. I did used to have baad backaches, brutal backaches, when younger, but since my water intake has gone way up after the stones, the back has been almost pain free. Prob a combination of better water and flushing the smaller stones naturally.

Thanks for the feedback - good luck with your "traveller".

oh i have since (5years) never touched an antacid, and eat a diverse diet with organic meat, whole plants and fruits nuts etc.

and since i have started drinking aloe vera juice i have helped my body to heal further and don't require garbage like tums to throw down my gullet.

In trying to correct one problem i caused another, gotta be careful with this machine we operate.

I've had 4 kidney stones. Two of them I was told were too big to pass on my own and would require surgery. Now i'm not the type to jump at the opportunity to go under the knife so I went and did some research. Came upon the the lemon juice/olive oil mix and gave it a shot. Mixed 50/50 fresh squeezed lemon juice and olive oil into an ounce shot glass and drank every mourning for 2-3 days respectively before passing both stones. Depending on what your stones are composed of this may not work. I think it is only effective for calcium based stones, though they are the most common so give it a try. Only other advice is go to a doctor and get yourself some percocet, it's going to hurt worse than any pain you've ever felt before. Sorry about your luck and hope they pass soon and easy for you.
