Shaving those legs gets easier w/ time. IMO 1/2 way up is good. Just dont do what 1 of my buddies did - 4/5 shave. Yikes! Looking good. cheers

lol~ yes you're just "shaving legs" that's all ;) much easier than it being more akin to "whacking dreads". You're promoting her potential by doing so as well, a good thing to think of it as. I harvest the growth underneath for medibles if I didn't already mention that! Some frosty gems to be found under there as well! You could always allow one or two to have more bush and see what happens if that sounds like fun to yoU! :) ~mgd

WEEK 6:

I am not happy to admit it, but I fucked up. My bulb is actually a 1,000 watt. In my newb defense, it did say 400w on the light in two places, I just didn't know how to read it properly. It is definitely 1000w and I am 100% positive this time! :biglaugh:

Moving on... the girls seem to be happy. I haven't done much this week other than keep the res full and make sure they're all getting watered properly. I had one issue with one dripper not doling out enough water, but I fixed it. Hopefully she bounces back- I think I caught it in time.

My little side project:

Since I had a small amount of extra space, I decided to pop some poppies! I think these flowers are gorgeous and I have never seen a real poppy flower in person. In addition to their beauty, they have some other beneficial attributes as well :smoke:

These are Persian White poppies and they are about 2 weeks old at this point. I am thinning them tonight and will transplant in about a week. The transplant success rate sucks, but if only one survives, then it will be worth it to me. Wish me luck! And if anyone has ever grown poppies before, any pointers are always welcomed.

Thank you for the edit. I don't know you obviously, so I wasn't sure how 'serious' you were, but I assumed you were joking, which is why I followed up with my own PHD joke. I love my friends for having my back and I'm sorry about all that negative rep. Sounds more like a misunderstanding than you just being a douche lol. Intention is often lost through the internet. Well, regardless, I hope you stick around, no matter your account name. No worries :)

first time being let out of the kitchen?

edit: wow i just logged on after a few weeks and realized just how much neg rep i got for the above comment. When i first saw the thread i only saw "Free woman" and next to it "first time". Dont even remember writing it but i geuss i was a lil out of line. My apologies to the op, sometimes my sense of humor isnt appropriate. I geuss i should just make another account cuz i dont think ill ever be able to recover from all the neg reps. Peace ic.. ill be back tho.

Looking good LADY.... :tiphat:

I once tried to grow poppys on the side as well.... started them in a window and they never really got beyond seedlings... considering doing it again in the future... in younger days a neighbor grew I couple acres in his field... such beautiful flowers.... .. and other things.... :D

WEEK 7:

(wo)Man down! =(

I had to scrap one of my girls - the one that I had dripper trouble with. I guess my eyes just aren't trained enough yet to catch the signs (in time) that the plant wasn't getting watered properly. Thing is - it was doing really well - I checked the base of the plants every other night or so to make sure I saw a little ring of moisture around the stem. I guess I got a little comfortable when they all worked perfectly for so long, then I started only checking them up close once or twice a week - about the same time my problem started, go figure. This dripper had been working properly for most of my run thus far. Once I saw it had less water and the plant was looking a tad straggly, about a week ago, I tried to dial in the dripper. Well, I learned that this particular dripper was slower than the rest. Because after day one of dialing it in, it was back to being dry the next day. That one day I think made the difference between me saving it or not. I opened up the dripper more after that, but the plant just never came back - not to my standards anyway. I'll probably make a batch of brownies or something out of her. It was hard to cut her down though. I had a moment of silence, lol. But I can't have any underachievers hogging up the light.

Other than that, everything else looks to be doing pretty well. I'm keeping a much closer eye on the drippers and all other elements because this little fiasco got me pretty upset. But I know it's my first lesson in becoming a true farmer - shit happens. I'm happy to still have 95% of my crop. I hope I make it to the end - roughly three weeks.

This time I took my pictures just before the light came on. I'm sorry some are a little blurry - my camera sucks. I played a mean April fool's joke on Lap though - He always tells me never to touch his nice camera. So... I told him I dropped it and broke it a hundred pieces :x

Heh. He got upset for a second, but then he told me I was gay. Which is true =P

I was also wondering about your light lol Im glad you have 1000w though.

Damn drippers..........

When I was using drippers I check them once every two days. I would constantly find one clogged here and there. They are great but the little-est piece of shit can cause a clog. They for sure make it easier though, ya just gotta stay on top of the little things.

Your plants do look good though. Lost one but the rest look great. Not so bad IMO. Keep it going.

Lovely! Congrats on your first solo grow. What nutes are you using? Your dripper system is nice, but sorry to hear that it caused you some trouble. I'll be checking back in!

WEEK 8:

I'm a little depressed this week. I found spider mites on a couple of my girls. SO pissed because I (thought) I did everything right with the Stylet Oil. Now, I've had to spray my girls this late into flowering, and will most likely do so again. I have no other options. I've prettymuch considered this a loss. I am starting over smarter in a few weeks. I'll let these run til the end so that I can use them, but after that - game on.

I've been in touch with a really good friend of Lap's - he has the same amount of experience and is aware of the mistakes that my other current teacher is known to make. He has given me a lot of great feedback as to where I could stand to improve (which I am extremely grateful for). As embarrassed as I was to show him my first time garden, it really made me feel better when he told me that I am absolutely capable of growing high quality weed and that all of my problems appear to be due to lack of direction. So, I'm very thankful to have such a masterful teacher behind me. He has agreed to work with me throughout my new grow. Not sure how I became so lucky.

Plenty of changes to come - so I hope you all stay tuned!

Here are a few pix of my current girls:

if the mites get too bad, when you cut the plants cut them down whole and hand them upsidedown , the living mites will all migrate to the cut stem of the plant that is now "on top"
it is really weird looking to see them all gather there.

good luck

Thank you Johni. I don't have webs, so I'm hoping the infestation isn't TOO bad, but having any just stresses me out and is never a good sign. I'm such a perfectionist, this is definitely eating me up inside more so than other things. Oh well, as annoying as the perfectionist is in me, it's what drives me to always do better. I have my fingers crossed that these mites are kept under control for the next two weeks until I chop em.

Thank you for the tip - my buddy had mentioned that as well. I'm also switching to a new organic substance to rid my girls of all future mites! I can't recall the name of it at the moment, but I'll let you guys know eventually. I will be curious to see if others have used this particular product.

Besides fingers crossed, what are you doing to keep the population down for the next two weeks ?

Still, everything looks nice to me :smoweed:

Brother - I've been spraying with Stylet Oil. I did two thorough sprays about two days apart once I found them during flowering - last one being last Sunday Night. I concentrated on where I found them, and then sprayed out from there. I plan on spraying them again tonight - depending on what I see I'll decide if it will be a light spray or another heavy one. I already know it is damaging, so what does it matter at this point. I just want to get rid of these little fuckers! Thanks for saying they look nice. They don't look awful, but just knowing those gross little things are there is certainly a downfall :/
