How fine should dolomite lime be?

The dolomite lime that i am using is specified to be 2500 micron particle size, that means from very fine powder up to 2500 microns

my supplier lists this grade as agricultural lime, but they have 2 finer grades: 1000 microns and 500 microns which are described as animal feed supplement and delivery agent for pesticides.

it got me thinking that the agricultural grade is for farmers who need it to be available in the soil for a longer period of time than an indoor grower.

my plants are in their medium for maximum 3 months from veg till harvest. should i be using the finest grade possible?

I think the real question here is why are you not recycling your mix? If you recycle the dolo that your running now will be put to use!

cool... that place seems to have a selection one can't normally find in the nurseries.

if feeding by water, then the smallest particle size is what you will want as it doesn't dissolve in solution... will settle back at the bottom if let to sit unagitated. at least the smallest size will mix more readily. bout the only think i can add.

but i'd expect even the 2500 will do a pretty good job. peace.

I say:

yes, finer will quicker acting. yr ingredients need to be mixed at least a fortnight before planting.

how long the dolomite works in the soil is more due to how much you put in rather than its fineness.

how much you put in depends on the pH of yr soil/growing medium.

you can test yr soil with a soil pH test kit.

cheers
