NY Purple Haze

Mtn. Nectar,

There are definitely multiple strains/seeds going around under the name Purple Haze. I agree with you that many Haze's are pure sativa or very close to it and hold very little to no indica expressions or body high at all. They are nice and cerebral and have a wide spectrum of amazing highs. The cut I was talking about did not turn substantially purple... the buds I got were VERY DARK green with orange hairs - It always looked the same and wreaked like pine-haze-ammonia. Literally one small smell and it was all you would smell for the next 5 minutes - so tingly it would almost make you sneeze. But the cut the uptown crew were growing commercially was truly one of the most balanced while still soaring strains I've smoked. Completely stoned to the bone.

The cut I am specifically looking for and talking about was from (in?) NY, was always the same. I'm pretty sure there is a good chance we are talking about different seed phenos and most likely even different "haze" genotypes or hybridizations... Northern Lights can have strong purple colorations in phenos - which was crossed left and right with hazes over decades - the bud i had could easily be some of the dankest of those processes.

But, out of curiosity which "straight PH" line (breeders) are you referring to, and what is the genetic lineage of it? I'm interested to hear the story and background.

Personally I have seen over 20+ different seed stocks over the past 10 years with the name "Purple haze" - many people using the same name are obviously talking about different things. This "purple haze", which seemed to come from the same sources as the Uptown haze - definitely had an indica kick in the mix... Since it was definitely commercially sold, I'm sure at one point a haze / indica hybrid was used to bring down the long flowering times and possibly increase yield for distribution. I'm fairly certain that this cut wasn't pure sativa even if other "Purple Hazes" are - however, if i ever got my hands on it - I would make sure no matter what I had it for life. =]

There was a batch or two where it must have been taken down early and definitely was lacking the indica backbone expression. That batch was a lot speedier / racier which is true to sativa genetics harvested early. However 95% of the time the Indica expressions shined through in the Uptown Purple Haze. It seems to have been bred into a pure haze to make this cut provide one of the warmest indica body highs in perfect harmony with the wonderful qualities of a soaring haze and of course commercially viable flowering times.

Anyone else have any encounters with the NY Purple Haze / Uptown haze piff?

aaahhhhh pine-haze-ammonia every time someone mentions that PH is the first thing that comes to mind. I posted pic on the mag before what I thought was Black Haze. I found out later it was actually Purple Haze. Clone been held in the deep south since the 90's. Does not turn purple at all. Even those that don't smoke describe the smell as ammonia. Grows very Haze like and looks like a pure Haze but taken to between 80 to 90 days you get very nice body effects. She dont yield as good as the Black Haze but the shorter time gets her more play commercially over the Black Haze.

Gsizzle,

Interesting, I'm also on a hunt to try Black Haze someday after DJ Short's ++++ Shulgin scale experience on it.

The herb you are describing sounds just like the cut I was getting bud from, do you know if the cut is still around and availible? - 80-90 is definitely manageable and worth it for that cut!

not sure why you would refer to the Purple Haze with indica genes present.........it never had any..............and the PH showed purple coloration from very early in veg through flower..............and we were working a line that was 70+% this way from seed.......

lets not confuse hybrids with the straight line PH............sure you encountered some great gear and best in acquiring once again............

ganj on.......

I was just talking about my stuff that could get confused for purple haze because it can get a little purple and is very hazy.

I wish some one would give me a cut of the real purple haze from way back in the 60's

The cut is still floating around just not as freely as it use to be. The newer generation are seeking 60day or quicker strain so running the 70 plus day strains don't appeal to them unless its rolled up in a blunt or in the bowl. Seem the old school guy run it a lot but so secretive about growing that they hold the cut tight.

Man it is crazy that certain weed stayed in certain blocks. I guess it is because everybody has their territory out east. Down south and out west it's all disgusting suburban sprawl. Excluding san fran and portland, there is no cities with unique neighborhoods by block.

I remember i got this batch of "purple haze" that was so lovely. It was purple with bright orange hairs. But the high was the best part, never in my life have i smoked anything so heady and uplifting, my face would have a permanent grin for hours, felt like i did a line of coke or something. At the time i was getting over a hard drug addiction, and my brother swore i was messing around with them again haha.

Got pulled over and the cops took my last quarter, i was so heated but they let me go free, which is unheard of around me. They did compliment me on how good the bud was tho, i think they took it for themselves lol

the redline always came in those little baggies with the red line on it. Pep was some good shit, and the 89 and silver were always around.

You or Cf or anyone ever get the branson.

By far hands down my fav. Pretty sure it was chem tho, but was a loooong time between smoking them, so its hard to say for sure.
