Newt Gingrich on drug laws

there is no doubt the GOP is a lost party with a shit platform and no viable leaders for president...

Ron Paul is more than viable, but Roger Ailes and the corporatist (including defense contractors) have everyone else in their voting block convinced he is a wack job.

Sure, his foreign policy is pre 1941, but our attack at pearl harbor was about negligence, not our "isolationist" tactics.

(FWIW The US put an embargo on oil for Japan in July 1941 after they seized French Indochina. Japan had to either shrink the empire, or attack the British and Dutch oil holdings.)

I would love to hear a moderator ask them about the long term viability of US Aircraft carriers, given Chinese and Iranian Anti-ship ballistic missiles.

All the corporatist have to do is spin the 'evil'.

If i owned cotton, paper, biofuels, or beer companies, i wouldnt want to compete with MJ. Its bad for business.

...Unless i can make it synthetically and/or patent it!

A real funny thing happened.
The Japanese Bombed Pearl Harbor.
Washington DC calls the Philippines Gen Douglas Mcarther to warn him of an impeding attack 3 times.
He has 10 hours.
The planes are never scrambled, and the Japanese lay siege to them as they sit on the runway (HERE).

(Some say he did it out of spite, he had requested over a millon solders that he didnt receive.)

I know that's right. Except for Ron Paul who is so much a real Republican that he don't have a Republican party.

Newt was willing to execute people with just 2 ounces or more of weed!!! I saw Gary Johnson say that. HOLYSHIT, I am eligible for the death penalty 1000 times over in my 20 years of smoking!

Blast from the Past: Newt and Drug War Logic

Steven L. Taylor · Tuesday, December 13, 2011

The Raw Story notes the following from Gary Johnson (aka the Forgotten Candidate): Gary Johnson: Gingrich ‘proposed the death penalty for marijuana’

“Newt Gingrich, in 1997, proposed the death penalty for marijuana — for possession of marijuana above a certain quantity of marijuana,” Johnson explained. “And yet, he is among 100 million Americans who’ve smoked marijuana.”

“I would love to have a discussion with him on the fact that he smoked pot, and under the wrong set of circumstance he proposed the death penalty for, potentially, something that he had committed. I have troubles with that,” he added.

Now, Johnson exaggerates a bit for effect: Newt didn’t propose executing the casual toker, but rather drug traffickers. However, as the RS piece notes, the amount that would qualify one as such was not exactly immense:

As Speaker of the House, Gingrich introduced the “Drug Importer Death Penalty Act of 1996.”

The bill would have required a “sentence of death for certain importations of significant quantities of controlled substances.” It would have applied to anyone convicted more than once of carrying 100 doses — or about two ounces — or marijuana across the border. Defendants would have had a window of 18 months to file their one and only appeal...

Please someone tell me they understand the nuanced phasing Newt uses. I cant remember some who was so good at it in the last 20 years. He can twist any question to his own liking, and then spin a double answer ('im not going to attack Mitt, look at what the others who have attacked him have said').

I wish i understood German. Newt has nothing on Adolf as far as verbal cadence goes. That son of a bitch could whip a crowd to fury with just a couple well timed breaks. Newt also cant touch him on a physical communication, but he outclasses the rest of the GOP by far.

He angrily shook his finger at Jon King three times, as King moved across the stage. It was powerful body language, and the crowd was eating from his palm the next two hours.

That Austrian had the whole package though....

He's worse than the current POS how again?
50% of American households receive some form of governmental aid.Government spending is out of control.Welfare state = slavery.Much bigger issue than his stance on MJ.Entrepreneuralism is what built this country. The great experiment is coming to end.You people have blinders on.Smoke another and bury your heads.Self entitled lazy pricks.

Your problem lies in your approach.

Fox can beat into your head for 12 years that the dems are the problems. Where are the SOLUTIONS?

Your question should be "How is Newt any BETTER?" Lose the word 'worse'. You want 'better', focusing on that much more difficult task.

Newt is not any better. If Newt and the GOP's ways of doing things were BETTER, the Bush Era tax cuts would have stimulated the economy. Trickle down economics did not work, and the 80's and 90's that Newt is so proud of were the years where we sold our manufacturing to ASIA. Outsourcing America makes bankers and executives rich.

The only people whos personal wealth went up in the last decade were the upper class.

As long as Roger Ailes and Faux News can convince you the boogie man is out to get you, you better pick us as the only alternative, this country is fucked.

How much capital gains to you pay?

Better yet, forget it, bury your head, Uncle Roger is correct on everything, Mitt will be in the poor house soon enough.

The point is all things being equal with MJ policy, which I see no change, the decision falls on much bigger problems.I'm just as disappointed as the next.MJ is far from the deciding factor.People's ambition has been replaced with 800$ a month checks. How long will that last?wake up.

and Mitt, who looks like a ken doll, also has the same intelligence. He just keeps walking into punches.

Im waiting for Newt to say "Im against all these personal attacks, and i wish my ugly and stupid opponent would drop them all. We are better than this."

spin like washing machine!

Mitt doesnt possess these tools, nor the 'radar' to detect them. Mitt made his money preying on the weak, Newt made his name by attacking those higher than he was (party be damned).

On a Tangent..

The best thing to happen to the GOP is McCain living all the way through Obama's first term.

Instead of, "how bad Obama has been", it would be, "can you imagine how FuXX0r we would be with President Palin"?

Fox News does a terrible dis-services by focusing on how BAD the dems are, instead of how GREAT GOP policy is... (probably because it generally is not great, like picking a ditzy bimbo for VP).

Hmmmm...

He's right wing, almost fundie type xtian, right???

Doesn't his life handbook for oppressing stupid people - aka the "bible", call for death by stoning for adulterers??? :ying:

Bet he'd back pedal like hell on that reminder - oh, these things aren't meant to be taken literally, etc...

Typical...

Just listen to newt's pompous tone of voice. Then just look at his appearance. He sounds, and looks like a Dictator. He reminds me of Stalin. Not Hitler, but Stalin. I could see Newt just killing anybody that disagrees with him. It would have nothing to do with ideals and all about his inflated Newtlear Bomb of an ego.

Stalin worked behind the scenes, check out the 17th Congress of the Communist Party 1934.
The 17th Congress has also been given the name The Congress of the Condemned, because of 1,996 party members present, 1,108 were arrested, and about two thirds of those executed within three years, largely during the Great Terror. Of the 139 members elected to the Central Committee in the 17th Congress, 98 would be executed in the purges. Of the remaining 41, only 24 would be re-elected to the Central Committee in the 18th Congress.[4]

Newt called Bush Sr. out on the 'No New Taxes', he did exactly what he said he did in the debates, he led a republican revolution for the first time since the 1930's. (But he doesnt tell you is the country has been gridlocked since, and anyone doubting that only needs to see his shutting down of the govt TWICE.)

Id say Newt acts more like this guy:
Fetch

He once held a Baath political party meeting, and had someone announce they knew there were traitors, and they better confess or they they AND their families would be killed. All while Saddam sits on the stage, grinning and smoking a cigar!

So what are your thoughts on Newts moves tomorrow night?

There are ~ 4 weeks until the next scheduled debate. Newt just took the lead, do you sit on your stack, or do you go for the knock out?

I think Mitt was surprised Newt didnt go after him Monday night. You could see Mitt almost wanted it.

Newts strong points are the debates, not having one for four weeks harms him the most.

Newt can play it cool again, and maybe ride this wave for four weeks, OR he can try to make Mitt lose it, and basically deliver at least a 3-4 week 'knock out', and a chance to get a lot more money for his campaign.
