Airpots RTA System Grow.

But surely if 2 cm is left in the bucket, then there will be 2 cm left in the pot catcher. Which will encourage roots to grow down into. I think to maintain the full air pruning action you'll need to raise to airpots out of the catchers slightly to ensure those roots don't ever sit in that left over water.

That has always been my issue with this system.

theres at least 2cm of air space on an airpot without the system mate problem is some people put the plastic bottom too far down or pots upside down ive done it myself lol there is a dedicated row for the plastic bottoms as the cones are slightly larger on the inside

speeds said theres 5.5cm from floor to bottom of 10ltr pot with the system plus theres the 2cm i mentioned from pot base to plastic bottom

peace

hi mate bummer on the brain eh its definately because that float is too low if there all same in shop ask for an undrilled bucket and drill em yourself mate you need at least 2cm of water left in the bottom

hope they get it sorted as i want one

peace

Hey bro, I thought I cannot be bothered to adapt it when I only just paid enough for it, so took it back to Progrow and they replaced it saying they have sold loads of the system and mine was the only problem, they think its the brain switch not making the correct switch?
Any way I have a replacement to try now to see how it does. :tiphat::ying:

looking nice - i've been using airpots for a while and i like them - although i cant say they upped my yield by any noticeable amount.
its very easy to attach the modular screens to them though. mine are wooden and you can just make a hole in the side of the leg with a countersink and then put it over one of the pointy bits then screw through from the inside with a small woodscrew. probably some pics in my diary.

I cant fault the airpors at all in order to reap the benefits or air pruning you need to size the pot correctly with amount of veg time i managed 7 zips from one psychosis in a 6lr pot with air pruning you can really downsize your pots and veg much longer than you could with an 11 or 15 ltr pot ive also noticed less stretch using airpots which helps for me

wonder how much i could pull from a 3ltr pot

Hey VG hope your well? I am thinking of using PVC plumbing pipe and drilling trogh then screwing like you say, I prefer the PVC as wood attracts mould and is quite heavy, also in conjunction with the 90 degree quick fit bends etc you can get, its easy to knock up a box frame double screened like my last one to allow for stretching colas ;) :tiphat::ying::ying:

al try one plant in a 3ltr airpot with same veg as 6ltr ones an see if theres a difference, well apart from the extra watering but im using drippers so all is good i will try a 10 ltr one too :)

that sounds good speedemon. horses for courses ;) - ive never had mold problems with wood and i have all the tools and am pretty handy with it. if you have a compound mitre saw you can cut perfect 90 degree angles and then just butt joint and screw the screens together. i find wood easy to get a fixing into as well.

i'll look forward to seeing your modules... mine are getting pretty old and shabby, seen a fair bit of service :)

here's a pic. the point from the airpot locates in a big hole/countersink on the other side of the leg then screwed through the pot into the wood from the inside. the inside leg on the right is screwed inside the pot or otherwise i cant get the first one out of the cab its such a tight fit! 3 legs on each module - my screens arent quite square.

Just checked on it after the 7pm feed and what a surprise lol the pump is on as the float switch is at the level to keep it on, but as the MJ1000 pump is not fully submerged so its just gurgling air and water but not draining the bucket!! Well this time I have filmed it all on my mobile, so will be going back tomorrow with the footage! The pump is deffo wrong for the job I am amazed I am the first person to have had a problem? as this bucket is new today and instantly does not work. So far I would not recommend the brain bucket of the system but the stands work well lol and the airpots are amazing!! I might make my own system and Tee off the 2 hoses so one outlet coming from the pots to a dry pump connected to a timer to come on for a period of time after the watering and connected to the outside waste pipe, I will just need to work out how long to run for.

You should be able to run it straight tothe guttering mate from the loft

its a shame about the system mate i can still use the stands and run via gravity to a cuboard in the
house if its an ongoing problem ,am sure you will get it sorted mate

would love to see a pic mate of the problem if poss

does your pump have a plastic filter on it? if so take it off and turn the pump upside down, so the pump is sucking up the water from the bottom of the tank. this is how i use my mj1000's with out any problems.

yea seems to be the best way to use them bro. i'm sure if demon does this his float switch will kick into to turn off the pump before it runs dry.

Hey BIGGS and rollit I took the footage down to the guys in the shop today and they want to show the manufacturer and agreed that either its the wrong pump or the float switch needs raising.
The pump does not have the filter BIGGS it just sucks up from the base but sucks up air when the water drops to a certain level, which keeps float switch on but not enough for pump to work :( But its in hand now and temporarily I will T off the 2 pipes and allow it to gravity drain :)

Week 4 update

Week 4 update

I am so happy with the results of the system running manually using gravity to get rid of waste, it works so much better. Their is no water in the stands now at any time, the only water is in the feet in each corner and none under the pots at all.
With the pump and bucket the way it worked was the water had to be at a certain height across all the stands and in the bucket, which would then activate the float switch, but their could be at least one and a half inches of standing water in each stand before the pump came on to drain it. My way just drains them all before any water builds up at all, I am lucky though as in a loft so can allow the gravity to do the rest :)

Here are some pics only a week after the last update and I am very happy, but they are taking 50 litres of water every 3 days so am always filling the reservoir now. :tiphat::ying::ying:

Lovely speed, the girls look the bizznezz :) How did you end up setting it up then? I see you said that you've T'd off the plumbing, but I can't visualize what has been done lol.

I've been impressed by the airpots myself my plants don't seem to be stretching as much as I would expect though, temps have been low in the night as well which usually makes em stretchy, so I'm putting it down to the airpots at the mo. Had loads of roots come out through under the airpot, guess the run off promoted it... I was like where the f@*k are these roots everybody has at the side of their airpots :D a day or so after I noticed the log ass roots under pots they started to creep out of side holes. They seem spot on so far :)
