stealth storage closet

greetings one and all!

so i have been trolling these forums for a little while now, and have chosen to take the step into the "right direction" :). i have very limited space and an very disagreeable girlfriend! so i had no choice but to go under the radar with in an item that has not and will not be gone through in an obvious yet inconspicous place... the closet..... i know i know, not really a great spot to hide cause everyone and their mother grows there :p. depending on yield this plant will hopefully provide enough personal smoke and maybe some to kick off to some buddies untill round 2 happens (but let me not get ahead of myself!

so anyway onto some details!

im using 5 24w 21in t5 light strips (6500k range for veg will go 2700 for flowering)
for nutes im using cogo cannabis formula (both part a and b) made in michigan (yay)!!!
i have made a rubbermade reusuable container as my current bubbler container with a pump purchased from a fish store. (2 hoses and runs very quite!)
using a 12cm turbo computer fan (thermaltake) as an exhaust with a 2x2 square as the intake (passive) the fan is running full blast even tho i have a control switch, ive began to have heat issue as of today
the bin is a rubbermade 32"/18"/22" dementional tote
inside it is lined with fat max sound proofing adheasive
on top of the fat max there is a layer of panda paper

genetics are based from a clone received from a friend off of an snow white (do not know the pheno type yet) produces very dense large budds from what i seen from his first crop, needless to say i was convinced! i know with proper training on this plant it has the potential to take up the whole tub! when i received the clone it had just taken root and was taken from a plant that was beginning to flower, there are a lot of branches about to burst from the top!!

issues that i seem to be having since the addition of 3 of the light strips (today):
heat has drastically raised from a compfortable 76f to 88f!!!!!

getting close to the plant i have noticed it already started the skunky smell... i love it but a dead give away in my situation... need to get or make a carbon filter!

so i guess i have come to ask some questions regarding the heat, but first let me state i do not know the cfm in the chamber, should i add another fan? if so should it be an intake fan and scratch the passive system? or should it be another exhaust or should i go larger with the fan? im aware i should have a fan for inside the chamber for air movement and that will be resolved tomorrow but any suggestions on which and please remember silence is golden!!!

carbon filters......... any choices for something that will fit in my area? any suggestions on making one to jank in my tub?

please any questions and comments are more then welcome!!!

thanks for reading and hope you enjoy this trip

here are the long awaited picks of my adventure!

i chose this location because the fish tank already has a noisy pump and will drowned out any other pump noise

and the smaller bubble system (roots have been growing at least 2in per day since i got her

Congrats on your first grow you're gonna love it.

Does your girl live with you? If so that's ballz brother.

Couple suggestions...

As far as heat goes, I would turn off the 2 outer lights. The plant is so small you don't need them yet, and that should cut down your heat to a more manageable temp.

You're going to need either more fans or a bigger one in the future though.

Make absolutely sure your water is cool. If it feels warm to the touch you need to get your temps down. This is critical otherwise you can get root rot. You need cool/cold water.

You're also going to want to get a tub that is light proof. Roots don't like light and algae loves it. So you really need to either cover it with something, paint it, or get a new one.

Good luck.

thanks scrap!!
not my first grow but my first in about 8ish years now, no she does not live with me but 90% of her belongings are here so may as well :p

i indeed turned off the outer lights which lowered the temp to a constant 78.9 (been stable now for about 16 hours) i will be adding another fan for circulation but im just worried that when it comes time to turn on the outer lights again the heat will rise again! mind you that i am limited to being as stealth as possible silent fans are my friend!!! any suggestions on a higher air flow fan but capable of staying silent or close to! im apposed to making another hole for exhaust due to when i need to add a scrubber i need to have the ability to keep negative pressure.

i have got a black 3gal bucket which i intend on cutting down in side to about 7ish inches to give ms snow white as much head room as possible! the black bucket has a top (grow pro) with 5in mesh bucket using hydroton as a medium. i suppose ill use the current rubbermade container for a cloner (have some purple og kush cuttings waiting for me when i need them)

thanks again!

If you have a craft store that makes picture frames you can ask them to cut a glass to your specs and you can exhaust the heat from the light and this will lower your temps without adding a bunch of fans or louder fans. It has worked great for me cut my temps by7-15deg.

Good luck

thanks gb i was thinking about that but then i was perplexed with the mounting of it which i figure i could mount it so it would be 2 or so inches into the actual tub itself and not part of the lid. the venting would have to be in the lid or unless i can find a fan small enough to fit between the glass and the allowed space to let the lid actually close! the way i have to have it to keep it undetected there needs to be the other totes ontop to remain as if nothing has moved or changed in there so there is no real room on the lid for me to vent out through there :(

thanks for the advice and ill keep everyone posted!

got the new container in and running, and ambient fan mounted and blowing pics to follow soon!

How many cfm's does your fan pull? Once you put a scrubber on it, it is going to drain a lot of its power so you're going to need another or more powerful fan.

I'm going to suggest you post a new thread asking for advice on a good quiet fan for a small stealth cab. A title like that will attract some stealth micro pros who will know exactly what you can do. Better to know ahead of time what you're going to need.

It can be done for sure. Some people build mufflers for their fans or there is a panasonic whisper fan thread that could give you some ideas.

I'll tell you what I ended up using for my cab Madd, and that is a bathroom exhaust fan. My cab is small..23w x 27h x 11d. I thought about using a computer fan but it wouldn't cool my cab enough. I'm running 125w worth of cfl's. I went to Home depot and looked at the exhaust fans and picked one up for $36.00. It was one of the quieter fans they had. As I sit here in my bedroom, with nothing on..tv,fans.. I can just hear it. It's in my closet too, but with the ceiling fan on it's undetectable

awesome! can you tell me the brand and model so i can do a lil back ground on it?

You have 37.7sq cm of exhaust and only 25sq cm of intake. Your fan can't cope with that. You need at least 75sq cm of intake - that's 3 2x2 holes instead of one. Don't bother upgrading your fan until your intake is sorted.

dude this totally brought the temps down to a cool 74f thanks man! soon the branches are coming and training can begin (branches are 1in popping out its 3rd node)! SW has already tripled in size since the pic which was what about a few days ago?!?! odd only 3 finger leaves tho which i think is rather interesting since its past the second node on all the stalks....

You might still need a more powerful fan to use a carbon filter, but if your ambient temps are low you may get away with it over winter. The grow in my Sig uses a 120mm fan to push through a big filter, but its a very high powered 120mm fan, needing 1.6A at 12vDC. Check the current rating on yours. If its under 500mA its going to have tough time coping with a filter.

lil update :)

lil update :)

so its been a lil over a week since the last pics, so i guess its time for a progress report!!!! dont mind the lady bugs) had a mealy worm outbreak with the new clones..... damn hitch hikers!!!!!

picture.php

yeeehaaa becoming a bush pretty damn fast eh? so as you can see there are a lot of leaf deformation, any idea why? (she is only kicking out single bladed leaves..)

and the new addions (4 death stars and 1 pineapple express)
picture.php

so things to come up, new 110 cfm computer fan (runs at 32 dBA and 1.3MM-H2O pressure) should have enough umph for the carbon filter im building which will be hopefully housed and exhausted under the subfloor and into the crawl space below my condo (note to self gotta check the humidity down there as internal humidity of box is a constant 40%)

not sure if im getting an accurate temp reading from where the actual probe is sitting on the black netted pot, as black absorbs heat (there it shows 78.6f when placed on the red tops it shows 74.1 on the floor of the tub 71.8) not really sure what to base it on....

snow white is about tall enough to start her training lessons :p

Well Hell Madd, I thought you dropped off of the face of the Earth lol.. looking really good so far and if height is a problem then go ahead and start training. They're ready, well the big gal is lol

the top leaves are just under the lights (im talking 1- 1 1/2 inch from the center 3 lights) unfortunatly my space is very limited in there and would love love love to come up with a solution to have a 6in deep res for all 6 plants now, still cant find a container that is small enough to fit in there yet still have a medium height as not to leave the roots in a non suspended state.... atm the snow white is in a 3 gal bucket i picked up cheap at wally world... but like i said its too tall and not big enough to give all 6 ladies a permanent place to grow

innertwined in the snow white there are about 8-10 branches about 1-2 inches long (tomorrow after work ill get her top down to the side with some twist ties and washers for weight)

update

so after a lil bit of bondage she has bushed out! i have made a carbon filter and installed a fan that pushes 80cfm (note to self need to add more passive intake holes and clean up the sloppy panda paper job)

and below is some spotting i have noticed starting to happen on existing leaves (none on new shoots)

will be posting in the infirmary but ill list the details here

using cogos cana part a and b nute solutions
ph is at 5.76
my water is from the tap and comes out at 7ish 7.2-7.6
ppm is roughly 900 (911 to be exact)
temps are 74-81 (depending on where in the cab)
i have lady bugs still alive in there assuming they are mostly dying off as i only found 3 living atm (had mealy worms from new clippings i got about a week ago)

Looking good Madd!

Don't worry bout the single leaves it'll grow out of that. Sometime that just happens to clones.
