has anyone ran a real experiment with equal numbers and clones from same mom. i do believe coco kicks ss4 ass. but i would like to see 6 and 6 not 6 and 1. think i might actually try it again myself soon. but when i went organic i got rid of my meters.and for a fair test i would need to ph for the coco otherwise my results would be worthless.i would bet any scientist would laugh at a study done so unfairly .

Well step up to the plate !
You complained when I started this too , you've had plenty of time to show everyone how to do it .

This was what I posted in post 20 of this thread

"Thanks for all the advice! Im gonna need as this is my first run. As some people have suggested this isn't a SCIENTIFIC test , maybe the results will mean something, maybe they will mean shit!
thank%20you.gif
If you don't like it , please go else where . I understand that 6 in coco , and 1 in ss#4 isn't the best , I don't need you to inform me about it.

Anyway on with the show. SO far the clone in SS#4 is taking the lead. The coco are slightly yellow . This is prob due to my inexperience . I will get up some pix this weekend, and go into detail . All positive comments and criticism are welcome , as I have a lot to learn about coco ! "

the coco should be kicking the s4 ass. i only run coco a couple times way back . before i do any testing and comparisons i would have to have it as dialed in as peat based mixes.otherwise the results will be off and worthless due to my incompetance. i will do it eventually. i wont criticize any more in your thread

to be honest i think my plants in coco have slowed growth due to salt content. but thats part of the experiment. mixing in some humus, perlite or PHC Biopak is enough work for me, i dont want to have to pre-treat all the coco i ever deal with in case of NaCl.

Awesome thread! I have been considering trying coco and just mentioned in another post someone should do a side by side. Thanks.

Coco was a nice yield and the flavor was fine.

It just wasn't for me.

Watering 2x a day is just not worth it for me. That is as least 5x the amount of work of my normal garden.
Sometimes I would even wake up in the middle of the night in a panic because I knew my plants were getting too dry (even though I had watered them before bed). Other times I'd forget and hope for the best, when the best was never what happened.

Thats why I went from soil-less, to coco, and back.

So please understand that I love coco, and you can too, but its a lot of work. I suggest considering an automated watering system if you're like me. Because once I have that figured out I'm going back! LOL

Well im kinda doin the experiment now...sort of.

I recently decided to try out small bushes in pots of coco, opposed to the organic soilbed SOG i have been doing for years. So i grabbed clones off all of my (pretty large) motherplants to start new bonsai moms and also to start my new coco project. So i started 8 clones in 1½ liter pots with coco, and 8 clones in 1½ liter pots with store bought, pre ferted soil. 8 strains. 16 clones of equal size and equal amount of roots poking out of the rooting plug. All 16 plants was placed under the same 400w MH.
Its been 10 days now, and the coco crew has gotten off to a noticeable better start. Already has thick pearly white roots coming out of the bottom of their pots. This is not meant as a comparison, as im simply planning on keeping the mothers in soil, while the coco plants are to be transplanted and vegged for another 4 weeks then flipped under 1800w HPS. Im simply adding my experience with coco vs soil so far.

IME the coco will grow larger but SUnshine will taste (slightly) better

I ran a test a last run...place a few Purple Dragons in coco as a test against BlackGold potting mix...the coco grew a bit faster, the buds were the same size as the BG mix. However, the fragrance was a little lacking and the taste wasn't even close to the BG mix...

Still havent bought a new camera, but the side by side veg is still happening. The coco plants look like they are about to eat the soil plants...tripple the size!

I am running clones from the same mother taken at the same time and planted at the same time and put into flower at the same time. They were also equally spread around my 600w Vert bulb setup. Here is my current impressions, I can post pics if desired or needed to back my claim.

The Coco plant is taller more vigorous and has the most weight on it out of the two. The other clone is in Advance Rain Forest mix and its shorter but its got some serious trichage going on and the smell is out of this world. Nice and organic smell and its just greasy and dense.

Both look and smell amazing and the coco plant is covered in trichs as well but the soil plant has a hazed over look to it and its branches are all over keeping me on my toes tieing up the branches. The coco is floppin too but not nearly as bad. The growth rate on coco is hands down better than soil and comparable to hydro. I have been a big fan and pusher of coco coir as a medium for a long time but since running Advance's new Rain Forest mixed I am considering switching back and running my DWC buckets on the side.

I have been running coco for over 3yrs now and soil for about 4yrs and hydro for about 2yrs. Not seperately but combined one, two, or all three at some point in time. Just my experience with each one.

Also both plants were fed the exact same thing at feedings except I flush between feedings on the soil but not on the coco, as I run my coco like I do hydro.

Just my .2 worth. :)

Ok here are some pics of the two clones. I will get a clearer shot of the Coco one tomorrow before the HPS kicks on but you get the general idea. The first two are the soil medium one, first pic is the top bud second is one of the lower buds. The one of the Coco is the top Main Bud. The both smell out of this world amazing to the touch. :tiphat:

I will grab some fresh pics of the Coco plant all tied up when I get home. Hopefully I can grab some good ones with the HPS off. :)
