hey herb, is that the double ended philips bulb in the 600??? those look pretty amazing as well, they can be found at the same link as the LEP's I posted above.

Oh yeah the heat from the LEP 300 is far less than a 4 strip 220w t5. I would say on par with a 125w cfl.
Not tried the non air-cooled LEP. The ballast / magnetron does get warm I believe.
I wouldn't call it a cold light tho, unless this term is being used in the science of induced light. But you can put the back of your hand to the glass quite comfortably.
The double ended el bulbs are only 1000w. The 600w is a normal single ended fixture.
Don't mention them breeders round here, you'll get in trouble.

Thanks for posting Herb, will be very interesting to see who they turn out, I've been interested in seeing a grow with a LEP for a while I've heard great things about them.
Any idea why they've made the ballast attached to the reflector? Big down side imo, pricey too! But none the less very interested to see the results...Peace

Ok ballasts. Or in the case of the LEP, magnetrons. By the very nature of what the LEP is, essentially a bulb in a microwave. The ballast has to be local. Else you would need huge amount of power to get the same result from a remote magnetron, not to mention all that loose radiation flying about. I would imagine the rf interference would be horrific.
In fact that is something I must test, as we all know microwaves bugger with rf.
And the pro el series. They do do remote ballasts of them.
I flicked on the pro 600 yesterday in the tent to test heat. After a few hours it was a couple deg warmer than just the LEP, so all should be good. But back to just the LEP for now, the rest of veg,
I have also lowered the LEP to about 1 ft above canopy. All plants being lst'd and pinched.

Thanks herb, someone else mentioned that to me via some kind words, I gotta plead ignorance though as Ive been away for almost 5 years until last year. Didnt they used to have a helpdesk here at one time??? Either way they are the only ones Ive seen using them except you, I meant no harm 
Im loving the stats and your descriptions of the performance and the specs so far, everything sound to be as good or better than advertised. Just wanted to add to your response above about the ballast being attached that as you said its only mandatory on the LEP which is low enough heat wise to not be a problem. Both the 600 and 1000w commercial units can be used with attached ballasts or remote (I think its the same price, maybe extra for a cord?) I really like the 1000w units, especially if the double ended enhanced spectrum bulbs turn out to be even half as good as advertised.
Cant wait to see the real cold hard facts on these things performance wise, again herb, thanks for the time.

Ok, so update time.
Plants have been having pure plasma power for a little over a week now.
Have been lsting, bending and pinching. Bending a little too much in places and snapped a KQ and Chem D branch, but as this is a scrog run all is good.
Plants look amazing, if i do say so myself. On 3 feeds a day now at 1.2 ec, for 8 mins a feed.
I will be putting plants into final placing over next day and will be interesting to see how the LEP copes with covering right to the edge of the DR150.
All I can say for sure is this, no LED unit of 300w would fill a 1.5m sq tent sufficiently for optimum growth, neither would a single 400w HPS.
I am loving this LEP.

Looking good Herbs mate, I am also surprised at the coverage of such a tiny bulb.
Feed scheme.
All plants in Canna Coco pro plus. During veg they are dripped 3 x per lights on. 2 drippers per pot.
Drip times are for around 7 mins until a little run off. But not much.
During flower I will increase this to 6 drips of about 4 mins per 12 hours lights on.
So Lights on at 10 with a 4 min drip, drip again at 12, 2, 4, 6 and 8.
Feed is mainly house and garden.
My base ec out of the tap is 0.5 pH 7.1
During veg I start at 20ml / 12 lt bucket of house garden coco a&b each. This gives me ec of around 1.2. I soak my cubes for cuttings at this rate and never go below unless final flush.
I also add to every feed 0.3m/l H&G root excel, 1ml/l multi zym, 0.5ml / l amino treatment rising to 1ml/l in last weeks of veg.
And a little bit of super thrive every now and then, and perhaps some potsil.
I stick with this until around week 2 of flower except I will have increased my base ec feed to 1.4 to 1.6 ec flashing at start of flower. Never really exceeding 35ml of a&b in each 12 lt bucket during whole grow.
At week 3 I will introduce canadian express headmasta and superior potash at 0.5ml / l.
Week 4 I up these to 1ml /l each. And stop root exel in introduce AN humid and fulvic acid at 1ml / l.
Week 5 I stop multizym and start budxl at 1ml / l.
Continue on till mid week 6 when I cut out the headmasta and sup potash and feed with out them for a few days to ensure all pk is leached from the medium.
Then week 7 I lower base ec back to 1.2 stop all additive except bud xl and introduce top shooter, gel or powder. At 0.5 ml /l for one week.
Week 8 stick at 1.2 ec and raise top shooter to 1ml / l. This take ec to 1.8.
Week 9 I cut all feed and go plain water till chop, either 14 or 21 days depending on plant finishing times.
I always add drip clean at 1.2ml / 12 lt bucket.
I used to run beneficials but I find them far from beneficial in drippers, so this time I am not using them and to be honest everything looks better, but that could be down to the plasma.

I want to know if its worth my while swapping my 2 1000 watt blockbusters for 2 of the 1000 watt Gavitta's with the ballasts separate to the lights as they say 2 versions available? And what differences in both heat and overall yield I will notice. So roll on Agent Smith get a 1000 watt gavita grow show up Edited to add no light hearted jokes about light here

Speedemon: These lights will definitely be worth upgrading to. You can get the remote units but the ballasts run really cool and are more efficient as a complete fixture so unless you need the extra few inches I'd suggest buying the completes. Also, the reflectors they use are more efficient than the big reflectors since the light takes more time and area bouncing around that big reflector before leaving compared to the small ones they use. Gavita also has a program where if you give them all of the room dimensions, amount of lights, canopy height, reflective material on the walls, and access areas, they'll tell you exactly where to position your lights for maximum coverage.
