Thanks you Doc. What an inspiration!!!

Dr. Bud, hope you read this and are still around this board...I Just finished reading the entire thread....Took me two days. I thought the first post ever here should be a big thank you to a very kind person for sharing this wealth with us. Setting mine up currently.

Thank you Doc!!!!:thank you:

so anyone have any info on ""sweet spots" on the strains that they have ran for in this setup? also this is such and inspirational thread and thanks to DGB and everyone else who have asked the right questions and have given awesome answers!

Blaster... it all depends on having an IDENTICAL setup to the doc if you want the data to mean anything.

In my cabinet, which I built after reading this thread and many others, my AK47's sweet spot is about 2 inches. If your cabinet was a different height than mine, or you used different pots, or different medium, or different nutes, or had different light or different environmental variables, your sweet spot would be different.

The easiest way to find your answer definitively is to take several cuts from the same plant and then label each cutting with the height it was at when you put it into the flowering cab. So one cut is 1", one cut is 2", one cut is 3", and so on. At the end, some of the plants will have stopped before they hit the ceiling and some will have kept going after they hit the ceiling and would have to be tied down, bent over or chopped.

But if you put them in as I have described, one plant will be "just right" it will grow just as tall as you want it to and no taller.

Then you look at the label that you put on it so that you know when to flower similar cuts in the future.

Once you do that, you just flower all your cuts (from that mom) at the perfect starting height and you're done!

thank u anti. I didn't even think of that. I'm prepping and gathering supplies for my first cab and was just curious to see if I may have any strains that other have used in this setup, although I plan on going coco and using the 6/9 formula just to keep things simple. I didn't think about just labeling size and 'staggering' heights like that (the small/simple things always are the last to hit me).

Its been 6mo since I posted in here. Thought I'd throw in another :2cents:.

Pertinent to the current topic, Anti is dead on as usual concerning start height. Each cab is different.

Blaster528: Coco is a great choice bro; best media I've found to date. Holds shit-ton of water and air, these two are the most critical things I've found about the Doc's system. Ya gotta have a media that is open enough to require watering at least every 48hrs. 24 is better. At the same time its gotta hold and deliver alot of water. Add about 20% #3 perlite and your golden. Im pulling 35-45g wet on average with two year old bulbs, using KISS with Koolbloom. I'm just made the switch to H&G's Cocos A+B with Shooting Powder to see if i get any better results. I did a couple groups with KISS and Shooting Powder and the results were promising. It was time to buy nutes again so i said WTH and gave the H&G base a shot(plus i wanted to run H&G in my HID grow). Its WAY more expensive than KISS though. I wouldnt recommend anything but KISS to a newb until you get some time under your belt and your thumb gets good and green. KISS is just too easy and cheap to advise anything else. Feel free to PM me, once you get that post count over 50 if ya got anything ya wanna ask. I'm happy to help. That goes for anybody on here.

Wish the Doc would stop in or let us know where he's prowlin nowadays........

Wow...this is still alive....:dance013:

Man this thread is like the bible, like that episode of Star Trek when Kirk and Spock beamed down to a planet that modeled it's entire society after a book about the mobsters of the 1930's.

It's linked to on just about every other growing forum on the net. You couldn't kill it if you tried! (please don't)

I'm new to IC and was wondering if anyone does a SOG style grow with CFL's on a Micro-level?

The reason I ask is Bcuz I do it's 210 watts of CFL's over 27 clones in 2 sq. ft.

The girlz grow in a 16 oz soda bottle filled with my own soil mix...they finish in 9 weeks and Avg. 7- 21 Grams dried per plant and I harvest 3 a week...SOG Perpetual Harvest this is a pic of one of my girlz

Hey Doc and fellow ICrs

I read two of your threads and I feel like my head is going to pop. in fact, i read so much i don't remember all the details so i was wondering if you could assist by answering a couple of questions.....

-I have a rather large grow cab 4' tall x 5' wide x 3' deep with a separate section for mothers/clones. it currently has a 600w bulb in a cooltube i can stuff 18 1gal pots in there. the problem is i just can't figure out how to keep the plants small. I flower at 6" tall and without stretching they will finish at 2' tall while still not producing the density i see in your buds. I have been growing for 18yrs with hydro and aero and produced some really huge buds but this was my first ever round of soil (707). are you training your babies or using c02?

-I've seen the question asked but have not yet seen it answered........How do you keep the mothers so small? I also have a 1' x 2' 4bulb T5 to use on the mother/clone chamber, would you still recommend CFL over T5?

Soil is tough work, haven't tried your concoction yet but i have always found my comfort zone in aeroponics as it was by far the easiest method to grow; at least for me it was. i am finally ready to ditch all the tents and go completely micro so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm no Dr. Bud, and maybe he will show up and answer.

It's my understanding that the soil size plays a big role in this. I believe he transplants his cutlings when they are about 4 inches tall, and buries them to the leaves in his ~20oz bottles. He uses ebb/flow to feed to make the small root area efficient/effective. Then he puts it under veg lighting, no time in veg at all.

This tends to produce the budcycles he and others have been making (1 large main cola) that stay under 18" tall, many report 12" from soil to the top.

Good luck!

This in combination with flowering them as soon as they root, plus starting off small from a bonasi mother is what i have found to generate the budciciles.

As far as how to create "bonsai" mothers...the term bonsai here is a touch misleading because these are not true bonsai's. They are not trained, wired and shaped like traditional bonsai method a entails....They merely have cuts harvested from them at a very early age and then are continuously taken from at a aggressive rate. As the plant creates two nodes for each cut you take, the cuts get progressively smaller and smaller due to the doubling at each cut that is happening. Once established, every few days a few cuts will decide to domintate the 100's of sisters around them and will shoot up over the micro canopy growing to about 1.5-2" in diameter around the top. These are what I take for my cuts. 7 days to go from cut to clone, bout 4 for the clone to root into the dew bottle. Very little growth takes place at this time, but as soon as they start to show some roots in the media thru the dew bottle its into flowers they go. Except for the 100% indicas, my AGK takes about 12-15 DAYS of veg to get enough height to make a 18" cola ath the end of the cycle. Hybrids are the way to go in these systems. pure strains of either have time related pitfalls, either too much veg time or too many weeks of flower fot the sativas...... You want a stran that puts on nodes like a sativa and stretches good but finishes in 8-10 weeks....

You can make lots o' potent herbs like dat mon....... :rasta:

IMO for the size cab you have, you should check out Anti's Vert Sog here:

First, 1 Gallon pots vs them small Mountain Dew bottles.
The 1Gs will allow a lot more root growth, making bigger plants.

Second, DrBud had a "scoreboard", where he had written all starting points (i.e.1",2",3",4",5"....) for all of his strains, which made every strain finish at the "Sweet Spot", 1½-1" from his fixed lamps.

There's this thread, "Dr Bud for dummies" (no offense !)https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=94452
-might help ?
