H3ad goes Coco

Yes...and the EC will be high enough. With my tap water...it actually is too high sometimes...but coco is forgiving.

Interesting. I've been thinking about this a little wrong then. Why would anyone use anything different besides rez's version (which is the same plus some koolbloom here and there?)? This should be the standard and a starting point for every coco grower in terms of nutrients.

Why? Because Rez put it out there? There are many different ways to skin a cat.

No I didn't mean it like that. I've just been going off the bottles instead of learning what the numbers really mean. IF cannabis prefers a basic profile and we kinda know what it is then really it's a matter of making minor adjustments that are varied from strain to strain. So if the guy has different strains he's probably applying different rates at different times, but still sticking to the basic 6/9. I realize there are a lot of ways to get where you need to be, I'm just suggesting that there might be a base that is standard and you go from there. As far as strains go, some have slower more drawn out stretches, some have quick flowering bursts at very specific times...lots of different growth characteristics that probably change the nutrition requirements over the flowering period. So it will definitely take someone a whole bunch of growth cycles to truly nail down all the subtleties. In the end isn't it good to have some kind of base to work off of until you learn all those subtleties?

Well said. Much clearer now.

Hello everyone,
Here's my second grow girl. First one was a failure. It's a 2nd week of feeding with 0/9. Is it a good time to start feeding with water only? Thanks for your advice

you would probably be fine. what week are they on? If you think they will be done in 7-14 days then start water.

What week? That's a good question... I misplaced my grow notes somewhere so I can't really tell...

jl your plants look like there at week what week 4 or 5? id lower the micro to 3 as your girls look pretty well fed, as well as burnt from either your deficient in full spectrum hps light or your having probs with im guessing P most likely from too much of it.

Thanx for reply. As far as the light - it's a full spectrum bulb. When photos were taken, plant was fed with 0/9 for the second week. Here is a couple more photos taken 10/1. It's been 8 days since I feed with water only. I plan to go ahead and feed with plain water for a 7-10 days more. How much more time do I have?

I have misplaced my notes so I don't know the exact dates but I switched to 12/12 on 7/26 (so it's 11 weeks now). I cut micro in 7th week of flowering and for a week now I've been feeding with water only... It seems long but so far about 60% of trichs are still white. About 25% are turning emerald.

the starter of this thread luves his smoke to be extremly smooth so he cuts out hte micro very eary, i cant blame him as erb flushed very well that was grown in coco taste like actually erb, its quite impressive how the flavours come through via coco, but in all honesty cutting out the micro at week 4 or 5 is gonna cut down your yeild.

j23 your pistills are mostly white, why are u already flushing, that plant looks like it has 3 weeks left/ also, get your plants of the distilled, that will ruin your plants health, collect some of rain water of your gutters, it comes out at about 15 ppm, atleast its not empty, pure water makes plants miseralbe.

IwannatokeNbone: I'm not using the distilled water. Leafs are burned only on the top; which as I have just red somewhere, may be indication that the remaining nutrients from the leaves are being utilized. I started flushing 'cause I was assuming it will take about 3 weeks for my girl to mature. I hope it all turns out all right because today I took a couple more photos (sorry for the poor quality) and it looks like there's much more amber color there...

Please let me know if I'm right on schedule

Hey all,
Great thread thanks to h3ad and everyone who posted up for 103 pages of good info. I may have missed it but I don't see anyone who tried advanced 3 part nutes.

I have been at the nurtient calculator this morning and I came up with the following 5 ml micro, 11ml bloom and 6 ml of botanicare calmag plus 1g/gallon epsom...all of which I have laying around...gives,

n 85
p 63
k 96
mg74
ca 117
s 78

I may pick up some ammonium nitrate to boost the nitrogen a bit but other wise it seems like an ok profile with somewhat high sulpher and calcium. I am going to start feeding this profile without the nitrogen today and see how the 4 girls on my new 2' x 4' by 6 inch deep table full of coco like it. If anyone has any suggestions for using the an three part please let me know.

If the dAmN micro had less calcium than the 5 percent it has I could just use 6ml of the micro and that would bump the nitrogen up to 95ppm but it would also bump the ca up to 130ppm which seems high whatta ya think...

Very cool thread man. Just started looking into coco as a medium after stumbling across a thread where the grower was using coco and I was really impressed with the growth rates and results I saw. I would like to see a side by side experiment with coco and soil, that would an interesting read. Thanks for taking the time to post and explain what you are doing, that is beneficial to all of us.

Keep up the great work, I have some reading to do ;o)

Well I'm heading to the the hydro shop for GH nutes today my AN mix caused SERIOUS mg lockout within 48hrs and at pH 5.5, I'LL be flushing with 5.5 ro water and bringing the 6/9 mix up today. I am surprised the lockout I saw was so extreme and fast... I bought the 3 part to use in some other hydro systems I was trying and was not overly impressed and thought I could use it up in coco, not going to happen. The profile I calculated mixed at 1.9ec and I did notice a slight burn as well..but I am still smiling as the girls are actually still growing and the new nutes are just a days drive away.

Yep 69 for the win. Nice healthy looking vigorous plants I love the simplicity, just water my table once a day with about 1.5 gallons and get a small amount of run off. 20 bucks for media and I can chuck it in the garden when I'm done, That is all I require.

I'm in 6th week flower and was told to cut out both micro and calmag is this a good idea
