Originally thought I had mites. Now, I'm stumped. What is this?

Went to check on the girls yesterday.

It seems the yellowing has progressed on the affected leaves, and some of those leaves are dying, but I don't see that it has spread onto the upper leaves, which seem healthy for the most part.

I'm concerned about the yellowing on the bottoms though. It seems like they're hungry. I filled up a gallon container of water with 1/2 cup of Flora Nova Grow and 3ml GH Bloom and Micro, and gave half the container to each hole. That was like 5 days ago.

What do you think, was that not enough food? This is my first outdoor so not sure really how much to feed them and how often.

These are all on a slope and when I try to feed them, the solution just goes down the hill and doesn't get absorbed by the soil, so I ended up digging like 5 small holes in each and poured it in those. Seemed to absorb it much better, but I don't know if this method will adequately feed them since there are only certain hotspots that have food in them. What do you think?

Any advice appreciated.

I also noticed something else while I was there...

It is only on a few of the leaves.

I know for certain that some birds pooped on these and saw some of this nearby. I was thinking maybe the water smeared poop?

Or does it look like something else potentially harmful?

looks like a normaly finishing outdoor plant..Suckin up it's reserves.... gettin the water to stay is a must, pokin holes should help.. try a dam of dirt to keep it where poured..get as much water to them as you can... lookin good to me..

S

Scrappy-doo

Ok.

The only reason I was thinking differently is it seems early for them to be using their reserves. They are nowhere near finished, I'd say they have a month or longer to go.

Indoors I would not see any yellowing yet at this stage. But then again that's indoors. Maybe outdoors it's a whole different game? Well it's nice to hear they look ok to you. Thanks for the input.

holy shit did you just say you mixed half a cup of nutes into a gallon of water and fed it to your plants and in addition only 2 teaspoons of the other stuff? or was that a typo?

based on the pictures its a little early for the leaves to be getting used up like that, i would feed em, which you did more phosphorous and magnesium. 1-2 more feedings then i would stop and let em finish like nature intended. as for watering you should dig some dirt at the base of the stem and water down there if you go slowly the water with moisten up the soil enough for it to get spongelike and start absorbing the water correctly. just scrape some away with your hand so theres a little pit for the water to pool, fill it let is soak in then continue.

Well I don't know do teaspoons convert to 3 ml? That's what it said on the directions per gallon so that's what I used. The flora nova... I don't know exactly a friend gave me some and I just guesstimated how much I put in. Actually looking at a half cup measure now, it was probably more like 1/4 cup.

The bottoms were yellowing so I figured they could use a boost of nitrogen. They don't appear to be stressed by the dosage. In fact I was thinking maybe they need more, as the yellowing on the bottom is a bit more pronounced than last week. To me they look hungry. We've had massive amounts of rain the last month so perhaps a lot of it got washed out. Not sure.

But if I'm all wrong here and fucking them up more please tell me.

Spider shit, and I'm not shittin you! Used to have a spider in a tank and that's what its shit looked like, I see it on my plants too but leave the spiders alone.

I actually have seen a few spiders on my plants, as well as some very very strange looking bugs that I have no idea what they are, but they seem like predators.

No further damage so far.

I'm just glad it's not some sort of fungus or PM or something.

Here's a cool one.

This little fella is almost 2 inches long. Not a great pick.

There are some more but I don't have pics right now. One of them seems to pretend to be a leaf or piece of bark or something. It has a bigger head than its body. I'll try to find some more cool ones next time I go.

I'm noticing more of this white stuff on the leaves...

And I'm pretty sure it's coming from these guys

I think it's their poop, cause I saw one of them pooping white stuff. There are lots of them. Aside from the white stuff I don't really see any damage from them though.

Anyone familiar, and is it a problem?

i think the bug pooping white is some sort of grasshopper, the first one i think they call it a potato bug or a stink bug, if you touch em they have a reeking scent. the brown bug might just be a lightning bug.

S

Scrappy-doo

Yes it sure seems grasshopper-like. When I flick them off the leaves they jump off and flap their wings till they land on another leaf. They can turn in the air but not sure if they can actually fly.

That reeking bug is cool looking. I like the stripes. It looks like it could kick some ass though.

I'm going back tomorrow. Been spraying with Greencure every time I go to prevent budrot. Sucks man here on the east coast we've been getting nothing but rain, and nothing but more rain for the next few days.

So far they're doing pretty well. I had to cut off 2 buds that had just a tiny bit of rot, but that's all. Hopefully tomorrow I can get there in between the thunderstorms to spray.

That's a lot of crap from a little bug. We see it from time to time on ours and my assumption has always been bird crap...

Now that grasshoppers have been brought up, I do know our plots get a lot of grasshoppers.. Very interesting.

I just looked up grasshopper excrement and it seems they drop little black turds...

BotanicalBill- Yeah I saw one of these things pooping and it was white. There are lots of them so it could explain the amount. Originally I though it was bird poop too, but some of it is really in deep crevices that would be really hard if just dropped from above. These things are not grasshoppers but they're sorta grasshopper-like. I don't know what they're called. They got wings.

lilskunkbaby- Kill them? Why are they harmful to plants? I thought they were kinda cool. The only stink I've smelled so far is the kind I want to be smelling. Hey how did your harvest turn out?

Hey scrappy-doo, I have seen stinkbugs strip poplar and ash trees of all their leaves and they cluster on the trunk , make a little hole and suck out the sap....trust me on this, they are very distructive.

About my harvest, everyone said leave it another 2 weeks...so I did.Tempuratures have dipped really low so Im thinking that the plants have just done all they can do...gonna harvest tomorrow....I just got a lil sad thinking how I'm gonna miss the thrill of checking on the girls outside.

I'm so glad you held off on pulling your girls. They should be nice and ripe by now. Please post a pic here from before the chop! Love to see'em. Thanks for the advice I'll keep a look out for the stinkers. I'm a couple weeks away from my harvest. 4 more days of rain and then sunny weather. Yayyyy!!!!!!
