lol yeah I was a member here since 2008 but I had to switch handles because of security reasons. I stopped growing also because of those security problems until just recently and even now I only grow for personal. I am in the process of building a cab for a perpetual garden now after being away for about a year I have had the same mother plant growing for almost a year and a half now she is in the middle of flowering outside right now. I just took a few clones from her about a week ago while I build my cab. I have just recently started coming back to the site.

Welcome back! I hope you sorted all the security issues and good luck with it all, I bet it feels good to be back!

Ventilation Issues Solved

Ventilation Issues Solved

Back again with an update.

For those that have been following this and other related threads. I am happy to report that I have solved my ventilation issues. I now have my AC set to 74. My bloom room = 74 ambient 80 canopy and 73 in the res. Veg = 75 ambient, 81 canopy and 76 in the res. Despite what others will say about +75 F in the res, I am going to run with it. I did not have any problems with higher temps in my res and my ladies made it this far so I am thinking that I will be g2g. If not, we can also make changes then.

Here are some recent pics of my show. I took some cuts today, the ST mom has fully recovered and is throwing out new growth everywhere. You can see in the pics that I added a tub underneath the veg tub, this was so that I could even out the canpoy a little. I also lowered the lights, I was being cautious and keeping them at 24" from the canopy but found that when moving the light closer, the temp wasn't really affected. I also moved the light down in the bloom room.

All the work that I had to put in playing with that ventilation is making me second guess my decision with DWC. I've been pricing chillers and am leaning towards building some bio buckets but also been toying with the idea of converting my tubs to aero setups. If I can do it in a cloner, then I should be able to replicate my DIY aero in tubs as well.

We'll see how that goes though. Thanks for stopping by. Please feel free to offer something, I sometimes feel like I am talking to myself in here.

Try covering all your buckets with Reflectix or similar.....it'll make a huge difference in the water temperatures in the buckets, totes, and Rez!....especially if you go with a chiller!

Without the chiller radiant heat will still be less.....hence it's still worth covering the water system!

I'm sticking with DWC for clone and veg! And both DWC and RDWC for flower!

My cloners and veger containers are clear and wrapped....I can unwrap and look at my roots without ever disturbing the plant...roots look awesome too!

If you go with aero you can still use Reflectix and clear materials too! It's fun watching the roots grow and the sprayers in action!

You only changed your AC setting....no vent changes?

Are you using this reflectix now? I was thinking about that foil tape from HD. I'm sticking with DWC at least for this run. Most likely going to buy a chiller on CL and build me some bio buckets.

Thanks for that bud! I'm actively trying to increase my efficiency. Hence the raising of temps. I got my first taste of a growers electricity bill and that shit wasn't nice. Thanks for stopping by.

Yes,I'm using Reflectix now! I also only buy white buckets or containers if I can't get clear....black or darker colors attract and retain heat!

Do not cover any container with tape! I just cut a length of Reflectix that will wrap around the container and tape the ends together with two inches of metal tape...it's so sticky that I can unwrap and the tape will remain usable!

The top of the container...I just cut to shape With a slot and hole for the plant....also keeps light off the medium;hydroton for example...no algae on rock wool too if used. And I can take it off anytime ...just small pieces of tape or none at all !

I do my walls with Reflectix too! It's hardcore and cheap! I'm in eastern Canada and prices here are nuts for anything..even food for my plate. It cost me $117.oo for 125 ft x 4 ft roll ...if your in the states..half price easily!
My 10ft x 10ft room is divided into three separate rooms...the one roll covers all walls, containers, shelves, ceilings and best of all my floor...superb for walking on bare footed!

Sorry for the rant...back to your show and any issues if we can help!

Did you E bill double or more.

NW, it's all relevant. I bet your room glows with all that reflectivity. My room is painted flat white on all surfaces to include floor but that only lasts til I spill some nutes or buffer and then it stains it. I give it about a year or so and I am willing to be it goes back to the slate grey it was before white.

I went to the site but was unable to determine what application to be best for ours. Which application is the dimensions that you describe? I like the idea of the refelctive material. I tried to experiment with white paint but it's kind of a waste of time, it didn't so much temp wise and flakes if scraped.

I'll probably call them and ask them for a distributor. Once I find out, I'll link it here.

My e bill was an ironic $420 for last month. We ran the AC inside the house a lot last month. This is also in conjunction with my split running @ 70 constantly and 2 Kw in lights. I have since, changed my room temps to mid 70s with the AC and culled my 1kW veg lamp and am now using a 400W with the lamp @ about 5" from my canopy. Less lumens produced but I like to think that I am using more lumens with the 400 due to the placement.

Reflectix is a brand name....mine is another called AYR...it's the same!
It comes with one side white and the other side metallic. Home depot or other building supply stores would have it,probably in the plumbing or insulating section. Best of all it acts as a vapor barrier preventing any molds on original walls!

My power bill is once every two months at about the same cost as yours with 2.5 k running.
I don't use air conditioning,it uses lots of power. I will be in the future though!

Have you thought about running the 400 vertically to get more light to the plants?....some say you can run lights vertical and not produce more heat but less,I'm on the fence with that though and will be trying it soon myself.

I'll have to check that out next HD run. AC is nice but it is expensive. Natural air is not an option for me though so the ac is here to stay. Interesting about the vertical lights. I never really considered vert before. Shoot me a link to the grow so I can follow it, I'd be interested to see how hanging your bulb vert works out.

Here's a great read for you of a vertical light grow....he's a master grower of small rooms of many plants for yield and or trees, uses no Co2,air-conditioning or crazy nutrient additives! His philosophy is keep it simple and efficient!

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=181239

I'm actually very new to growing myself and I'm still experimenting with cloning and vegging due to mites and other learning problems. All my original clones came in soil....soil is not for me! I'm having good success with hydro using three cloning and vegging methods. And I have four strains to sort out towards flowering as I only have a fifteen plant limit.

Here's a sweet grow of vertical that is a first time! One light! And a well deserved excellent yield!

Here's to learning while we grow...cheers!

Your sealed room certainly makes your grow interesting too!

I love the KISS grows. That's what it's all about, getting more for less, the bottom line. I am really thinking of using the famous Lucas Oil once I have exhausted my H16 nutes. I have my additives down to just Cal Mag, H202 and the H16 Prime sample that I was given.

Vert seems to be the trend that is catching on. I've been reading and educating myself on the principles and find it very interesting.

I never tried soil, I knew I eventually wanted to end up in RDWC so I figured I would just dive in.

Good luck with the mites. It's a good chance to become a better grower. Cheers to us while we learn. I would like to get dialed in, productive and efficient so I could start contributing a bit more instead of hounding everyone else for answers. I'm sure we will continue to learn from each other.

Happy Growing Bud!

I'm back with an update. Been real busy lately with fam and school, work and life in general really. Plants are looking good so far I think. I have noticed a bit of yellowing and curling of fan leaves and suspect that it is a Mag def as I remember reading that ST really likes the Mag. I think I will bump up the Mag in my next res change.

Here are some pics of the bloom room on day 25. Does this look about right for ST at this stage? Shit is crazy sticky and smells absoloutely lovely! I didn't get any pics of the PMK, they are doing well also, super dense nugs with a real piney aroma.

All the plants shown here are on the H16 late bud feed schedule of:

-12 ml/Gl Bud A/B
-3 ml/Gl H2O2
-5 ml/Gl Ca/Mg
-12 ml/Gl H16 Prime

I know certain strains have dif needs and all but for the first run, I wanted to simplify things, neither strain seems to mind.

My Veg room is overgrowing! If you recall, I built a new 24 site tub a few weeks ago, these are now ready to be transplanted into tubs with fewer sites to flower. I've got some WW, JW, ST and PMK in there, I plan to take a WW and JW for moms and flower everything else. My ST Mom has bounced back after winning a battle with algae. This allows me to work on my weak ass DIY aero cloning game.

I'm using the same additives minus the Prime in veg and also using the H16 Veg A/B at prescribed levels. Plants seem to really dig it.

Happy Growing!

So I did my weekly res changes last week and flipped 8 plants. I exhausted my RO res in the course and used tap water to fill the res's of all my vegging plants.

I didn't let it sit for chems to burn off, just adjusted with a ridiculous amount of pH up to 5.0. I mean a lot. ie, 15ml for 3 Gl of solution. This turned the res a milky white color. I left it like that overnight and 24 hours later, it still looks the same, the plants don't show any ill effects and it is super bubbly in there, and a foam has formed on top of the water.

I didn't have my phone on hand during chores, so I don't have a pic at the moment but I was wondering if anyone else had seen something similar?

Everything seemed okay until I saw the foam, pH is steady at 5.1
