How stupid can eBay sellers be?

I am a first timer grower. I did some research and discovered that eBay has the lowest prices on HID lights, fans and everything. I bought a 600w mh/hps set from an eBay seller in California. I thought it would be no big deal to receive some discreet box from another state. Well, I got a big surprise when I got the box from UPS. It had "600 watt MH/HPS light system" written in big bold letters on two sides. Those fucking idiots! To make matters worse, the MH bulb had little pieces of broken glass inside of it. I emailed the seller and told them about the bulb. They said they would send me a replacement and asked for a phone number and an address. So I gave them a random phone number and an address. Well, I got the replacement bulb today. They sent it via USPS parcel post. They printed the shipping label with the phone number that I gave them and at the bottom it said "600w MH bulb." What the fuck is wrong with these people!?! Why would they even ask for a phone number? And why the fuck would they print "600w MH bulb" on the shipping label? My only guesses are that these people are a bunch of dumb-ass who do not really know what they are selling and are merely shipping products that they receive as bulk packages from China or they are cops? What do you guys think? How stupid can eBay sellers be?

I had exactly the same thing happen! All my ups shipments come to my place of work, and I'm the shipping and receiving guy where I work, so it's usually no big deal... But when the UPS guy comes in and asks 'what you gonna light with a 600 watt light?' I just about shit... I've learned to use the vendors who list things as 'private sale' and 'discreet shipping' in their listings...

If you order from E-Bay it's best to use a dummy account or pay a buddy to order for you. It's not E-Bay you need to worry about it's Pay Pal.

See no fault with the seller , order was delivered , the light problem sounds like a manufactureing defect which they replaced unseen , they even answered an email which is a better service than many sellers will provide.

You might have assumed a level of stealth packing/shipping which they do not promise , same issues here in the UK , often just a label on the box with no additional wrapping.

They ask for a phone number to contact you if there is a problem finding the address you give and to reduce the number of items returned to depot , its a good thing.

thats why i just use the hydro store.....at the end of the day if your hydro shop knows you, you arent paying that much more than ebay or online....plus you dont have to wait for a box in the mail, you can set up the light the day you bought it. i ordered a 150watt HPS light off ebay for 60 bucks that i could have bought at hydro shop for 75.....they delivered it without any kind of discretion....they just sent it in the OEM box....they left it on my doorstep for hours so anybody driving by could see a grow light sitting on my step..

after that shit i decided no more ebay for grow shit, unless its small like ph pens...

I have ordered stuff from Ebay many times over and never had any issues, I just ask before hand if they offer the service. Everything comes in a plain box box with shipping label.

bought some floramite off fleabay and the seller wrote on the receipt "this will keep the mites off your buds" this usually wouldn't be much of a issue but customs had opened the package

PS for the OP small shards of glass inside MH lamps is a common thing from manufacturing and in most cases a non issue

Ebay sellers are not the only ones who do this, my buddy had the same shit happen to him when he got some stuff dropshipped to him from General Hydroponics they just sent regular boxes with shipping labels slapped on them and I think there was tape all around the boxes that said GH or something like that with their logo so anyone who looked at it knew it was grow gear. Be careful if you order stuff from any place online and they do not actually stock the merchandise in-house because they may likely just have it dropshipped to you from the manufacturer and this usually is not stealth shipping! Buy shit in person with cash and take a taxicab or use a friends vehicle to and from the grow store. Also around these parts legal or not everyone I know tries to be discreet because it's not the cops you have to worry about it's the fucking jackers who find out you grow and want to rip your garden. It's always the best policy to keep things discreet & private.

I do agree that the ebay seller is a fucking idiot also.

It is common sense to not list the contents of a package on the outside of the package if the contents are not quite socially acceptable i.e. dildos, bongs, dick enhancement pills, little girls panties, hydro supplies, etc. I am sorry if I sounded racist.

Oh well, lesson learned. My security has been comprised. So I guess I will just grow tomatoes now.

If you weren't wise enough to make sure it was going to be packaged discretely then you should not be growing. This is basic stuff that you need to do. Growing is the easy part. It's everything in between that makes it hard.
