I was under the impression that the terpenes Citral, Geranial, Neral, Lemonal are responsible for lemony smell in cannabis and not limonene that was mentioned in some post before this.

I believe these do exist in such strains, along with limonene. Granted these are present in some strains all alone, simply none, or in mixed proportions and this would account for variations in aromas & taste in different strains that are similiar yet different. In my mind this also accounts for variations in the effects from smoking them along with the variations in levels of THC, CBD, CBN, and various other contributors. Much like a lime, lemon, orange, & grapefruit all smell similiar in a familiar "citrus" way but yet are so different. One thing is for sure, there is alot of important research to be done on Terpenes & Terpenoids in various strains along with the effects they contribute to the overall experience. :joint:

This is what wikipedia has to say..............

Limonene takes its name from the lemon, as the rind of the lemon, like other citrus fruits, contains considerable amounts of this compound, which contributes to their smell.

Cascadia which were both derived from Love Potion

I love the lemon terepens....they do mess with my eyes really bad..... anyone else get this effect from lemon bud?

:nono: I notice the description was changed back!!! any reason other then sales!! is the info now legit?

New release- BESO—Lemony goodness all the way is what you get when Cinderella 99 touches the Love Potion #2. “Love Potion #2 is the strain GW Pharma paid thousands to a Canadian breeder for a strain that was very high in the terpenoid Limonene (responsible for the lemon scent/taste) so they can use it for sativex.”

Wonder Diesel (williams wonder x sour diesel v3 cross by Rezdog) has produced some fantastic lemon flavors for me.. The original seeds, as well as the seeds I made by crossing a couple siblings. Some difference plant to plant. Some sweet & incensed like that lemon wood polish, some more sour, but one thing they ALL have is lemon flavor. Just thinking about it makes me want to pop a few more seeds of it this next run... Yah know, I think I'll do just that:) I usually run a few seeds of it when I'm trying out a new pack of seeds, because I always know I'll get something good-great out of those beans... IMO good lemony flavored/smelling buds are as easy to smoke as they are to get rid of.. Around these parts anyway..

GHS and D and A S1s of the Lemon Skunk are great weed, many are Lemony as anything out there. For such a great strain, I cannot remember seeing photos of the original cut growing, having enjoyed a lot of random daughters I would love to see the real deal momma.

I've had Ducksfoot plants that had aq lemon smell that alomost felt as though it was burning your nose with citric acid, the only thing I'd say is that it's not really lemon in that it's soooo lemon it's more lemon than lemon, like a new type of super citrus smell...

kandy kush from dee enn a. trainwreck x og kush. lemon cleaner all the way.
sotf- I am also very curious about the relationships between scent/terpene content and cannabinoid/effect. If we can figure out general effect from common terpene profiles, it stands to reason that a breeding program could take good advantage of this, as you say, breeding for grapefruit has worked well for you...
this is a fascinating subject to me...so many interesting terpene profiles and such varied highs and stones...
I love a sweet pine for the day, and a mocha-coffee-funk for the evenings...
anyway, great thread.:tiphat:
