Texting or talking??????

I'd be getting a new Attorney..... And don't be doing either....

Couldn't have said it better myself. Fact is, the best codes are in the entire world are useless if your co-defendant is telling what they all mean. Both phones and texts leave trails...PERIOD, no if and's or butts.

If you still must persist in communicating, look into PGP encryption and have your friend(s) do the same. Safer than a text or phone call, but again not 100%. As mentioned before, it's not your code or the method you use, the weakest link is going to be the other party in pretty much all cases.

ive driven hour round trips just to talk to people in person...i fucking hate phones. you never know if your boy slipped up and maybe hes under investigation..then he calls you trying to dump some packs or talks to much and then the feds have you number, etc etc...

just like in the wire...they build massive pyramids of numbers and try to figure out who is who...

i fucking hate phones...il say it 100000 times...but some people just dont want to use cuttier ways of communication especially because its so convenient..

i was wondering about the texting vs calling things to....with text messages you can always deny it was you sending them. with voice its kind of incriminating, there was a point where me and my friends were talking to eachother in chinese accents over the phone because in court we were gonna laugh at the prosecuter like "that guy is CHINESE, thats not me!" but who knows if that will work...

Its the actual sale that will get you popped, not any text message or recorded call. Usually if the call is being recorded its because the person you are talking to got popped and they are setting you up with the help of the cops. Whens the last time you heard of any case of someone getting busted and the investigation started with a phone conversation or a text message? If you are already under investigation then everything will be recorded, texts and conversations, but cops don't waste their time with that shit unless its a big payoff for them.

and if you delete the texts right after you send them and I'm 99% sure that once a text is sent, there's no way to intercept it and the communication compay has no way to store or record texts.

hahaha, please tell me you're kidding......

anything electronic? its recorded. Just because you hit the delete button doesn't mean its not saved in the logs much less all the satellites and antennas your conversation has gone through.

texts are super sketchy, I dont get why people can't just ask to "hang out", done, once there chat about the terms in person with music playin while sittin on the couch taking a bongload.

Text messages are forever and forever.

Texts are good for saying: "Let's have a coffee".

All serious conversations should be face to face - remember to take the battery out of your cell when having a meeting - as the microphone can be switched on remotely at any time by your cell company.
Yupp, carrying a mobile phone is virtually the same as having a bug planted on you - except your doing it to yourself.

Besides, what need is there for communication between business associates - we mostly know what the other guy is going to say anyways. And everyone knows what "let's have a coffee" means. Anything more complicated than the usual stuff - deal with it face to face - leaving your mobile in your car - in a public place - while walking. And even then be vague and speak in code.

My friend got pulled in and confronted with a recording of him discussing delivering 7 cords of wood to some guy. Fortunately the conversation was actually about a delivery of firewood, but if there had been something other going on the conversation would have been supporting evidence.

With a phone convo, they can prove it was you, if they have a recording--
Texting gives you Deniability, as they cannot prove it was you who wrote or sent it--:tiphat:

just the other day in the local news paper...the cops pulled over a guy for on his bike for a violation and searched his phone and found he was setting up a deal to move meth...they contacted the person he was dealing with to set him up...so in a round about way this all started from a txt msg....at least for the dude they set up...

I don't care what anyone says- from time to time, we all use a cell phone to communicate. I'd like to hear opinions on what's safer/easiest defended by a lawyer. For a long time, I didn't like texting at all because there is a written record of what is being discussed but as you don't even need a warrant to listen in on a cell phone and the fact that a recording of your voice discussing illegal activities is pretty damning in court and you could always argue that it wasn't you that sent the text and if you delete the texts right after you send them and I'm 99% sure that once a text is sent, there's no way to intercept it and the communication compay has no way to store or record texts. I know the prisons are full of people who weren't quite careful enough so this might be a good discussion to have on a security forum instead of with your cellmate.

what illegal thing are you doing in the first place?

this is a website how to grow plants....

I had a couple get in a fight and spend some time in jail over it who both had my txts in their phone. I went ahead and changed my number but should I ditch the acct altogether?

My 2cents.....

Do not talk on the phone as it's your voice and no deniability will exist.
Do not text on the phone as it's also on your callers phone, twice the risk.

Try this:
- Get a good PGP program (i.e. http://www.gnupg.org/).
- Share a secret key with them. Individually or as a group as you see fit.
- Share a GMail account(s) between you and your friend(s).
- Write your messages in say notepad and save the encrypted text into a GMail message.
- DO NOT "SEND" THE MESSAGE ANYWHERE. You just save it as a draft.
- Your friend(s) can log into the shared GMail account and download/decrypt and read the message(s).
- No mail ever gets sent. No message ever gets stored or goes out in the clear.
- Change secrets frequently and/or if you suspect a "problem" with a friend.
- Delete old messages ; Clear the trash ;-)

ICred.

Something similar happen to me lately. Got pulled over for my god damn license plate light, i fuckin hate that thing. Anyways, cops had me out the car. They took everything out my pockets including cell phone.

Got a text from my boy saying, "Im going on a diet..trying to lose a couple pounds". I guess they thought it was odd, maybe cause it was a dude i donno. But those bastards called him from my phone right then and there.

It was actually funny cause they were trying to be all "cool" and "hip" whatever you wanna call it, and just sounded like complete idiots so my boy hung up prob cause he knew it wasnt me.

I told him what happen, he is scared shitless. Gonna lay low for awhile so he says. Just stating my experience of cops almost getting a bust from a stupid text at the wrong time.

Also, i heard somewhere texts are logged for 3 months then overwritten with new texts.

why in the fuck did you get out of the car if all they had was a license plate infraction? unless your car reeked theres no reason for LEO to search you or for you to allow it.

what worries me most about my communications with people is not what I might get caught up with, its what someone else might get caught up with that leads back to me, case in point your boy wouldn't have any stress if he didn't text that.

technology and the ease of such is the bane of people involved in the game.

Say a person spoke on the phone using a vocoder or another voice scrambling device, how hard is it for LEO to descramble the recording? I'm sure the capabilty is there as for every thing that is done there is a way to undo it but when for example your caught with a few Oz's, have said it's personal but the pricks really want you then it becomes an issue of cost to the state versus benefit of prosecution. In Australia for example I know of people who have stalled their drug cases for years by having their Barrister demand a full chemical analyses of the substance and as a result they end up getting less time as (and this is no joke) in order for the chemical analysis to be perofrmed their is a waiting list of up to 18-24months. I know it's a joke, just the state of affairs where I live gives the upper hand to people dealing in powders, kinda hard to say you want your buds chemically analysed. Back to my point though, is there any voice disguising technology anyone knows of that is fairly hard to descramble?

You seriously think a cop can pull you over, and search your cellphone without a warrant? And just start making calls? You think he can just buy himself a cup of coffee with the spare change in your ash tray too? LOL
