Chinese Cloning!

I was watching a streaming Netflix video called "All in this Tea" and
they showed Chinese tea growers grafting tea cuttings into the stump of a big tea plant. They first scraped the end of the stem and then inserted the tea clone into a notch cut into the stump. I'm going to try to do something similar with the stump of a Satori just cut down and a Satori clone cut from a mother plant. So instead of rooting in coco, I'll be rooting in a stump. Doubt if it will work, but it seems a shame to waste a good root system after harvest.

Thats cool, Ill have to look for that movie, I use netflix instead of cable.

Since you seem to have the means, and the open mind to experiment with clones, you might be able to air layer.

I saw a write up on it long ago on OG, but I dont recall ever following a thread where someone was cloning that way.

Similar principal, letting the plant do the work of rooting, air layer forces roots below the cut you scrape/bandage.

:tiphat:Id love to see that.

You know what. I remember seeing an old guy get a new tree to grow out of a stump in our yard when I was a kid. Very neat. I am watching this and perhaps we should look more at how the Chinese farm.

Kinda like a graft meets clone.

It should work. Cannabis can be grafted. In fact, a hop vine can be grafted onto cannabis rootstock.

Actually, grafting a clone onto an established rootstock is a pretty damn good idea. You have an established root system already, the clone should be able to uptake nutrients right away. You might consider using nursery tape or beeswax to seal the wound to keep out bacterial contamination. Once the wound heals, it should take off like gangbusters.

I read a thread on here a while back that was similar to this except he grafted a 2nd strain onto a mature mother plant. That gave him 2 strains on 1 plant. I tried it once with no luck, but that was most likely my fault. Will definitely be watching this one.

Nice project.
I don´t know about crafting into a plant that is bearing fruit already.
You should be crafting onto plants that are starting the vegetative period.
I am just saying this because i can see a small bud on your plant.
I´ve also seen this done in a few threads but always onto mature mothers ;)
All the best anyway.

Should work. I once potted a smaller plant into the rootball of a plant i'd harvested and it worked. I just cut the stalk out and a square the size of the new rootball out of the old pot and shoved the new plant in. I'd hazard a guess that it was using the roots of the old plant too as it started growing very vigorously.

It sure can work. You can build ur own apple-pear-plumb tree if you like :)
But when its about growing the parts together I'm not sure if you need some gel or some hormon stuff.

We will seee ! =)
