they don't care if it's a petty amount. laws are laws. What you may think is petty could mean something that leads to bigger things to them.

ozman,
Thank you for the details. Sucks they happened to just arrive when you were smoking. Case woulda probably got dropped without that if you didn't give them reason/permission to enter.

I had a question here. Oh yeah, are you sure it was USPS and not customs?

Hey DGR,
my lawyer said it was usps thats why they needed a warrant to open my mail, that they didnt have nor ever produced. He was very adamant on that point.Yes it was just plain ol bad luck when they showed up when they did.Otherwise I think it would have been just a q and a session with me denying I ever purchased the seeds.
I guess Im just gonna go with the flow till my time is up.By then I will be out of this state and living else where.

So does the search warrant requirement apply to Priority mail? Because that is different than Parcel and 1st class.

I lost a 3 pack via USPS ground, double vacuum packed and double boxed. There is no safe way to ship anymore, the postal service has a very good investigative unit and close to 100% conviction rates. Seizures are up dramatically every year. Mailing weed is pretty much history.

For those keeping score, so far in this thread we have 4 packages from 2 IC members that were lost via USPS, one of which resulted in a conviction and was set off by a search of the package without a warrant.

Was the box sent with "Delivery Confirmation"?

If so, what did the computer tracking system say about the lost package?

I wish I had a better understanding of all of these shippers systems and internal controls.

Sorry H20 wasnt the intention of this thread to have others asking so many questions. IT WAS to be another warning for those wanting to risk using FED EX or other privateer co's to ship with. Chances are if theyre asking questions theyre either LEO wanting more info or just noobs tryin to get into the game....either way this country sux ass.

Funny how all the people giving me shit earlier in the thread are suddenly silent on the matter.

The packaging on most of those looks pretty good. I wonder where the probable cause to get a warrant came from?

Oh yeah, I forgot that the fucking pigs are in this game being PIGs. The scum that is our government needs not follow any laws, because laws only exist to facilitate the state.

well, the postal workers/inspectors probably analyzed the packages. I'm guessing they saw that it was sent from california or another west coast state. Then they analyze the return name/address and the receivers name/address. If one of those don't match up, and coming from a west coast state... then that's probably enough for them to get a warrant. IF the box is heavily taped on the outside/corners that's also a red flag. I wouldn't be surprised if they have walk-around dogs at some facilities that are known for exporting. If the dog hits on it, they probably analyze the names/address if they haven't already, then get the warrant. Also bigger packages are targeted more.

Nope, I was told that would make transit riskier, so it was foregone. I don't know what happened to the guy at the far end of the deal, but I told him he better move to another city pronto. The conviction rate of the USPS is said to be around 98%.

Links broken I guess, but here's a nice chunk of text from the article:

Postal Service Inspectors recently found what appeared to be canned corn. But when inspectors opened the cans, they found bags of marijuana inside. The bags were heat sealed, the weight was the same as what was listed on the label of the can, and the can was professionally sealed to lock in the smell. The amount of marijuana seized by inspectors, has increased every year since 2005. There was an 84 percent increase from 2007 to 2008 and a 180 percent increase between 2008 and 2009. Inspectors seized 8,453 lbs in 2007, 15,521 lbs in 2008, and 43,403 lbs of marijuana in 2009. Despite the growing amount of seizures, the amount of inspectors has stayed the same during this time span.
An estimated 75 percent of marijuana seized by the Post Office has originated in four states; Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. However, this does not mean that other areas are not seeing marijuana shipments. Recently, a woman in South Dakota received 50 lbs of marijuana in the mail, which she thought was a television. “It was not what she expected,” said local Sheriff Duane Mohr, “It had an international post stamp on it, but they were crafty enough to print off a return address label with a Motorola logo on it just to make it look legitimate.”
There are 1,614 inspectors at United States Post Offices. They use K-9’s to assist in the searches, but it is like searching for a needle in a hay stack. However, it hasn’t stopped 1,278 people from going to jail in 2009, for trying to mail marijuana. The U.S. Postal Service offers a $50,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of people trying to mail marijuana via the U.S. mail system.

1,278 people in federal prison for mailing a flower over the last two years at a 98% conviction rate.

Not the best use of prison cells or public dollars.

Very depressing to be an american.
