Okay I'm very lifted right now so I'm just gonna write and not edit anything that comes out, people are sometimes such little petty crybabies when they get neg rep they always make a big deal out of it which only makes it seem more powerful, here is my take on it: If we cant use it and people get in trouble for using it (or temp banned for doing so) then why the hell is it an option here? I mean its a function you have available to you and since we can't reach out and smack the other person that is what the neg rep accomplishes it's like a digital e-smack for all you e-thugs out there. 
I have given out thousands of positive reps and probably about 100 neg reps. I have gotten a few neg reps here and there but the positive reps far outway them I think my rep is like almost 8000 points or something not sure how that measures up maybe we should measure our reps with a ruler lmfao
It's funny because usually when I get a neg one it's along with like 10 positive ones so the good definitely outweighs the bad and it's just a little silly dot. I think in general though people take the whole thing way too seriously really sometimes it saves a conflict on the board in public by just saying it in private with a neg rep and it's also less conflictual than sending a PM which someone is sure to fire back a reply to and that is how fights start
Don't take it so personally if you get one it's not the end of the world and it's not against the forum rules for people to give them and we did not create the option. Really if people would just take it for what it's worth we could all get along way better than we already do. Stop crying if you get a neg rep and just return it or move on. It's not against site TOU to give them and it's something you have available to you. Positive rep is the same thing, give it out when you can it makes people feel good and puts a smile on their face. I fire off positive reps to everyone cool I possibly can constantly.
After all it's just little green & red dots and it does crack me up that people get all bent out of shape over it's just absolutely hilarious let's be honest it does not really do anything to the person other than let you know you gave them a different colored dot
Eye for an eye so don't give it if you don't want to get it & if people are not supposed to give out neg rep though really take the damn thing off our little control panel and problem solved then it's a non-issue and people will just post their comments in public and ruin more threads instead of doing it in private where nobody else sees it. No matter how cool you are and how interested you are in peace you will always disagree with someone else and someone will always disagree with you but don't lose sleep over it we all still love Cannabis together. I dont think anyone is saying not to have it Soft. I believe it is being used incorrectly. No one should get Neg rep for stating there Opinion thats not what it was for when OG instituted this feature.
You know that people do this im sure you have got it for that reason. If you dont agree with the post there is a feature for that and you could tell them you agree to disagree with them. neg rep is not appropriate for Opinions
I think NEG rep can be useful for a lot of peoples personal attacks is the big one. Making a discussion personal with rude comments about your life and family. There are useful functions for it. Opinions are not one of them.

You forgot to add the part where you just sent in a reported post about BB because you didn't like that "he saves his negative rep for racists". There's nothing wrong with giving neg rep to someone that has a "soft spot" for racists...... We have zero tolerance for that on this site.....

I enjoy this site, and for the most part everyone in it. I don't have to agree with your ideals to like you.
People are individuals, and should be. Sure, I see posts that are uncool. I do the same thing as I do outside of the interwibble, I let them be wrong and walk away.

a very high/mighty attitude AND the casting of aspersions upon the members here in any wholesale kind of way by someone.

Is racism a opinion?? I would not think it would be. Its a fact way of life for the misguided.
There is an issue with the system I think and it's you don't really want to leave a comment half the time but it requires you to do so and this leads to problems. I have tried to do it a few times when I gave it out to trolls but it says you must leave a comment to give the negative rep and this is something I thing should be addressed and it would cut down on the conflicts caused by any rep comments. One day they will have little hands attached to computers and you will be able to actually just reach out and smack someone with a button, or at least I hope. An electrical shock button would be cool too you know just a little tingle for the fingertips nothing with really high amperage lmao
