DIY LED PC Case.



Hello Micro growers! I've been meaning to get a thread going showing what I've got going on but I've been lazy...I mean busy...very busy :smoke:

At any rate, I'm about 3 weeks into flower now so I'll do a little picture show to catch you up then keep you updated as gals progress towards the finish line...

i dig the pink! very "batman forever". Looks like a sweet setup.

I wanted to ask about your case though; is it a larger-than-average case? I have a large server-style case that I was thinking of tricking out, but I don't think it's as big as yours; what are the dimensions on that puppy?

Hey Jay,
Thanks buddy, the case is a Antec 300 and the dimensions off their website are 18”x 18.3” x 8.1” though I think its a bit smaller than that, I can measure it when the gals wake up

I honestly have no idea what strain they are...their leftovers from a female seeds mixed pack I had laying around since 2006. Though their starting to develop a fuelish kinda smell that reminds me of Ice but their structure is very different then what I remember of Ice so:dunno:

I just hope they grow into something tastey...:smokeit:

I think it is cool to be able to magically keep plants in a space that small. To me it really does seem like magic because I can't do it. Props :)

Your setup is very nice and 'pinkish' !
Actually a little bit of defoliation right on the start of the flowering period could get you a higher yield.

What kind of LEDs did you used for your setup ? 1w or 3W chips ? And what is the wavelength of those LEDs ? Did you run them at nominal current or less ?

imnotkrazy, judging by the hedges you got in your backyard I think your crazy if you think you couldnt do this in your sleep:)

hempfield, the leds are golden dragon plus and I've got
9 red 625nm
5 far red 660nm
2 royal blue 455nm
2 white 5500k-7000k

and their all being run at 550mW for a grand total of about 22 watts of led power:tiphat:

I'm going to start mine in Oct or so when I can count on lower temps. I pretty much have everything and it will be a very similar set up. I don't think my led controller is 550mW though.

I'll be using AF's. Any tips? I've done two small hydro grows, never never used soil.

thanks for stopping in buddy, yeah im using a meanwell cc driver w/ the potentiometer dialed to 550mW, just cause based on the golden dragons spec sheet it seemed like a good compromise between power and light emission. What leds are you using?

As for tips...hmm...well this is my first indoor grow, I've been growing outside for a couple yrs now since I got my med rec, but I've always been a strong advocate of keeping it simple...Start with a good soil mix and balanced water and let your gals do there thing and they'll grow like weeds:D

I rounded up a mix of decent 1W'ers off ebay. I have more leds than I have room or drivers for. My heat sync is only 6" x 9 1/2" so not much room on there either.

My grow area will be 6 1/2" x 10" x 14" so I'm probably going with just one plant.

I have all the same spectrum leds as the ones you used so I'll probably mimic your mix. My driver says 25-35w.

My first two micro cabinet grows netted me enough to last me 4 yrs +, so this is much more about the project than anything else. It's going to be very similar to yours.... I hope! :)

From my experience ( 3 grows until now), the LED can give very good results but it usually take longer cu finish.

I started with a DIY LED light grow using only 1w chips ( ebay stuff from china) in the following configuration :

50 pcs far red 660nm
20 pcs red 625nm
20 pcs blue 460nm



I use a PC power supply to power them ( they are connected in series of 3 or 4 - depends on the forward voltage specified by the producer).

This first light grow is not very effective ( actually it's drawing aprox 120W from the power supply), but the light is very bright and pink and the plants love it.



For the second grow I have upgrade 2 additional grow lights, using 3W chips (china stuff also) in the following config:
2x28 pcs red 625nm
2x5 pcs blue 460nm
2x6 cold white 6500K
2x6 warm white 2700K

All grow light together draw almost 300W from the power source.

The second grow was almost a failure, being my first hydro attempt ( I tried a SOG with 8 plants in a 2'x3'x3' box which became very crowded after 3 weeks of vegetation and I didn't have guts for a massive defoliation) which went wrong because my pH meter malfunction. (perhaps in the near future I will try a new hydro with a DWC in SCROG ).



The third grow it was a big success ( just 2 plants - actually 2 different phenos of Super Skunk, a Sativa dominant and <I think> an Afgani or Indica dominant - in intense LST and massive and repeated defoliation) with 60 days of vegetation (from clone)

and almost 10 weeks of flowering under the same DIY lights. I don't have some numbers yet (one week till harvest) but the buds looks very impressive, very sticky and heavy and I hope to achieve the 1g/w barrier (I will provide some numbers after drying).



I post this facts not to poison or to highjack your thread, but to confirm that the DIY LED grow light can be a very promising alternative for the very expensive commercial LED grow lights ( which, by the way , deceive the buyers with their names - pretending to be 120W, 250W, 300W, when the real power is much lower - a 1w led will never consume 1W of power, this is the peak value at maximum forward current, and at this current the wavelength change in a uncontrollable manner).

Hempfield, your not highjacking at all, I love your setup, please post all the pics you like, I'd def love to see some harvest shots :D
