Discovery Channel is set to announce a potentially controversial new series: A docu-soap reality show set in the country’s largest medical marijuana distributorship and starring a pot reform activist. This fall, the network will unveil Weed Wars, where cameras follow the day-to-day dealings of a California ganja store.
The show follows Steve DeAngelo, the owner of Oakland’s Harborside Health Center, which serves 80,000 clients. According to the network, DeAngelo strives to provide patients with the highest-quality product and uses his business to promote the national regulation and taxation of cannabis.
Weed Wars fearlessly pulls back the curtain on a once illegal and still controversial world,” said Nancy Daniels, executive vp at Discovery Channel. “From the inner workings of the business to Steve’s distinctive leadership style, Weed Wars is a fascinating glimpse into this highly unique setting. Like Gold Rush or Deadliest Catch, these are guys pursuing their own version of the American Dream.”

California passed the Compassionate Use Act in 1996 that permitted legalized pot dispensaries where customers can select from a variety of toke-able or edible products if they have a doctor’s approval. Some have accused the Act of essentially legalizing marijuana. But in addition to providing relief to some patients struggling with severe illnesses, the passage has also resulted in a new breed of local-owned brick-and-mortar outlets at a time when retail stores are shutting down as commerce increasingly shifts to big box stores and Internet.
The show will follow the journey of the plant from germination to harvesting to sales at Harborside, which has opened up a second location in San Jose despite “constant police monitoring and security sweeps,” says to the network.
What do you think, will you check out Weed Wars this fall? It’s sort of like Cake Boss with pot … or not.

I wonder if this might put him over the edge, with the DEA??

Nah... the season finale, with the court process in season 2, jail in season 3, season 4 follows the next group outta CO... or that might just be a spin-off series...

Nother network to pick up the underground basement grows & all the street battles we get into... lol... a quarter of the film will be us typing on the computers... ;-)

this show will last about as long as a summer in Antarctica.

no better way to get the feds to bust your door down then to have a TV show and label yourself as the "largest distributorship of ganja..."

and the name for the show fucking sucks too.

guy sounds like a fucking rip off artists... sort of like ummm, the 'prince of pot' marc emery. just another hack banking off cannabis. by the way whats with all these hacks making money on weed? seems like we got more hacks than any other industry out there. almost makes me want to quit. i said ALMOST!

cancel this bullshit now and give me more episodes of deadliest catch asap!!!!!

If he's willing to go down then I'm all for it. I'm not sure how long the feds will put up with it though. There's two ways I see this ending. 1, he makes the med scene look bad, gets busted, and proves to middle America that mmj is an end around to legal pot. 2, he looks like the good guy when the DEA takes him down and makes more people think twice about what medical marijuana can do for everyone.

medical marijuana is getting it's own reality show ..... wow ! .... now MMJ is on the same level with.......paris hilton?

i'm not really seeing this as good news ..... but i hope the network picks up the tab for the lawyers.

i hope we have not come to the point that a reality show is gonna be the thing that gets them to really start doing something positive about reform. and we all better pray it does not fuck things up worse than they are

Or #3...Ppl watch, decide it is outrageous that so many can qualify as Patients, yet only the Few are making all the $$... and Legalization for all gets a :bump:--

This is bad news. Most likely this show will interview people who come in who are obviously healthy and abusing the system and make the entire thing seem corrupted and terrible.

Colorado had this guy let the local news team into his home operation... the DEA guy even said something to the effect that he had no real choice. We already have one precedent that if you put something like this on TV, they will respond.

Kinda crazy shit if you ask me... but maybe he's got balls of steel & a cross to bear (differing views on him & all). Maybe he's got legal counsel that want's to make something happen.
