i copied these from comments on the huffington post so we can E-protest a little easier.

Congressman Lamar Smith (R-TX) chairs the House Judiciary committee. This is one of two committees through which H.R. 2306: Ending the Federal Marijuana Prohibition MUST pass in order to receive a House vote.Smith just said that he will not allow the Judiciary Committee to even consider the bill, let alone pass it. Call his office and let him know how you feel about not even giving the bill a chance at deliberation: DC Office: 202-225-4236San Antonio Office: 210-821-5024Kerrville Office: 830-896-0154Austin Office: 512-306-0439

Help the bill pass - Sign the petition to Change the Schedule of Cannabis, Cannabis Laws, and Drug Czar Laws.Read and sign the petition at http://www.change.org/petitions/change-the-schedule-of-cannabis-cannabis-laws-and-drug-czar-lawsEach signature sends an email petition letter to both Senators and the House Representative of the signer. After you sign send an email invite, share on facebook or twitter from the petition page.Be sure your Representatives know you want change!

"Congress has determined that marijuana is a dangerous drug and that the illegal distribution and sale of marijuana is a serious crime..."

Uh,
Remind me of WHEN and WHY that was, again please, Mr. Cole?

It ain't gonna be easy folks...Boneheads hate to admit they're wrong and dig in.

I think a nice polite note to your Representative and Senators encouraging their support for the bill and that their vote will determine whether you will actively campaign for or against them in the next election cycle.
Make a commitment to freedom and common sense and I will make a commitment to you.
Fair enough ?

`Unspoken will be the fact that I have to bribe you with my support to do the right thing anyway is a shame but I'll do it if I have to.
But the tide is starting to turn. Who wants to tell voters that they had to cut education to get the money to fund cops busting adults who smoke or grow weed in their backyard.

"Yes, people, I had the political courage to stand up and free police resources to concentrate on addictive drugs and violent criminals who prey on society."

You've heard it all before. Hell, anyone of us could write the script for that speech.

They ain't monsters. They're your neighbors you elected (or not) to represent you in Washington (or elsewhere) to do a job that not many of us would be willing to do, no matter how many free shrimp cocktails you can scarf down.

(The real payoff is the jobs you get afterwards and the retirement pkg. is a real peach, but that's another story).

i already have, i know for a fact that my rep is behind the bill, and that i copied the memo for him,and told him that these agenceies and lawyers are denying the people of all states their right to have their votes and voices validated by their reprisentitives and even those of their reprisentitives. i hope hes paying attention if he wants his job, theirs no point in having reprisentitives if they(FEDS) can just call on the federal supremicey clause against all arguments.

How did they get those percentages in that study? Use will go up from 50% to 100? That would mean everyone, right? So, they're saying that everybody wants to get stoned but 50% currently don't because it is illegal. Why is it that we can give actual facts on why it isn't dangerous and why it shouldn't be illegal and people still won't pay attention even though the politician is spewing lies out of their mouth every time it opens and I'm seriously tired of people who smoke being portrayed as confused, paranoid, hippie, Tommy Chong look-a-likes in the media and I'm even sicker of their stupid jokes during news stories.

About 4 decades ago? I was 10, how old were you?

The community has actively lobbied reform the entire 4 decades. We just need substantial non-mj community support. IMO, we won't see too many politicians bragging about cutting services to pack more prisons. That gab is getting old. Lobbyists for the private prison industry know the appropriate soundbites and much of it is mum these days.

Yesterday morning, I was watching MSNBC and Howard Dean (former governor of Vermont) made a remark I've been waiting on someone to make... He said that we have to do something about this drug war, and he believes Obama will call for something to be done after the election, but not before (assuming he wins, which let's be real..he's going to win again)...

Right now, nothing can be done anyway with the Repubs in charge of the House. If Obama wins, and the Dems take back the House...and also the Dems make gains in the Senate (which is entirely probable)...then, look out below.

Wtf are you smoking? First of all, Howard Dean is a windbag. The whole notion that a second helping of BO & Co. would yield results not seen in the first go-around is a pipe dream.

Hey all long time lurker not so poster. This is 1 thing Im eager for is HR2306 to go thru and get singed by obumma, now Im no expert on these things but I know what Ive read.Lamar Smith from tex is the head of the judiciary committee, but his rival on the same judiciary committee is John Conyers from MI. He is in need of our support so he can stand up against lamar and say people want this and force a vote in the committee. Here is Conyers page
http://conyers.house.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=Contact.OnlineContactForm
also here is a page to learn a little on the committees and to track the bill,
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd?bill=h112-2306
So I think if we are to go against lamar then Rep Conyers is our best bet to get this out of committee and to the next step.Even when it gets out of committee we cannot and must not slack off or hibernate on this we must push this all the way each and every step clear up to where obumma must be forced to sign this bill.
It will be an ugly fight each and every step but we must not stop the march now.Let conyers know that you support him in his action to bring this bill to committee.

By all means, go through the process...just don't hold your breath on any real action resulting. Ron Paul is a Republican with strong Libertarian views, but neither party has demonstrated anything like seriousness on the "drug war" issue, except for maintaining status quo.

A lot of folks in the weed community were all a-twitter in 2008 that Obama and his "hope & change" rhetoric would accomplish something. All they got was the same old stall, with a boatload of stupidity piled on top. What matters is accomplishment, not political bullshit!

"Reform" has become a political buzzword that gets added to "historic" in the media, all in an attempt to peddle bullshit as something wonderful.

Don't get me wrong, nothing has been as insane as the "drug war", drug policy, and prohibition in general. I just don't foresee any meaningful resolution in the near future. The idiocy of the treatment of marijuana is plain for all to see, but the DC nanny-state abhors Federalism. When nothing changes, nothing changes!

:dance013::moon:

There is growing international pressure to end the war. Growing internal US pressure too. Koffi Anan, George Schultz, many other high profile global figures came to the UN to denounce the War. Yes, obama did dismiss it. A big LEAP group (to no media fanfare) tried to get a hearing with Holder to stop the war, esp on MJ. Portugal just released a 10 year study they say proves decrim and treatment instead of incarceration for addicts is highly successful. Uruguay ok'ed growing your own. More states consider MMJ all the time. Yes the Obama administration is as bad as all the rest, but how much longer can they hold out in the face of rising tide against this shit? I would think not all THAT much longer.
