What's new

do you like sushi?

I love me some sashimi...don't need no stinkin rice. Red Snapper, Grouper and Tuna are my favs. There is a bar nearby that does a seared Ahi Tuna (pretty much raw) with wasabi and ginger...not a week goes by that I don't have it for lunch at least once.

It may not be for everyone...but it is at least worth a shot. I was surprised...and now I am addicted.

Last fishin trip we sampled Red Snapper,Mangrove Snapper,Yellowtail Snapper and some Alamaco jack once at dock with some soy sauce and a bit of seasoning. The Alamaco Jack was outstanding, and i sample all i catch at the cleaning station.

Not the same as havin rolls made up but just as good to me.

A lot of people get sushi and sushimi mixed up. Sushi is that stuff rolled up in sea weed, mixed with rice, and usually a vegetable or pickled radish in there. Sushimi(sp?) is raw fish by itself.

You've gotta try tuna Sushimi. Nothing like that crap we get in the can. Shit literally melts on your tongue. Little Wasabi. YUMMO. :tiphat:

:)

I too only ate california rolls/cooked tuna

i would gladly try some real deal raw/sashimi

but I would have to find a decent place here.. I don't reall feel like it..

if it is ever offered to me for sure I will try

I love me some good sushi, definitely dependent upon the quality of the fish and skills of the chef. mmm might have to go get some now... :)

Fladankster, my buddy in Ft Lauderdale and I use to sample our stuff raw at the pier cleaning station before freezing them too. I can't count how many spanish macks, blues, and flukes I've eaten right there on the pier. I've probably eaten over a thousand bluefish within an hour of them swimming in my life.

Till my buddy had a tapeworm come out his asshole.

For real.

I highly recommend you reconsider this practice brother.

Every piece of sushi you buy at a restaurant in the USA has been frozen solid for at least 12 hours to kill all parasites, and all fish are subject to them.

I am eel's mortal enemy ( & tuna ) ...put unagi anywhere near me & it gets devoured quick!
And softshell [email protected] eat everyday .

Always like a little "crunch" in my sushi so always ask for some strips of cucumber in the roll if its not listed ...they always oblige . Also toasted sesame seeds go on everything in copious quantities , always keep a jar on hand at home and can toast them yourself with a little Tamari . Yum , and adds that nutty crunch ...

* Neat Trick ---> take leaves of sushi seawed & hand toast over an open gas flame and you can just eat the leaves as is, only takes a few secs to get the moisture out ...just have some tea ready to wash down with but a good way to get all those minerals eating the seaweed itself...great thing to get kids into early as a snack , just tell them it grows brain cells ! hehe :)

Wasabe is the shit , not an everyday event though , lol.

I just bought two pounds of cuttlefish from an Asian specialty shop. She said it was sashimi quality. I've never had this before. Is it good? Straight sashimi or Google a recipe?

Sorry for the thread jack.

I really like sushi. Glad that I can eat it "everywhere" today. For the 1st time I had to fly to NYC in 1991;). But for sure, I had a hotel in Koreatown(Manhattan) and my 1st way was to a sushi resaurant.
Friend is a little bit to much, but my wife and I had long time contact to a korean sushimaster and his wife. Where I come from you get the freshest fish in the country. At one day a tv station made a documentary about this guy and his restaurant and my wife and I were the special guest for the movie.

I love me some good spicy tuna, among others.

The point about it not making you lethargic no matter how much you eat is so true.

The first time I tried sushi we went to an all you can eat place and I just kept wolfing it on down. The only reason we stopped eating and left is because we had to make the drive up north to go snowboarding for the weekend.

Never liked soy sauce until I tried sushi. It never seemed to go with anything but it's perfect for sushi.
