Hey Dr. penthotal, so great that you decided to check out my outdoor fun. sounds like you really have a good handle on outdoor growing. LOL a parachute suit eh? if i run around the woods in a German army parachutist suit i might well get shot by some trigger happy old timer, or at least reported to police as a suspicious person.

LLLLOL!
laughing.gif

I found this suit made of very strong fabric and mymetic, but I imagine that in some german speaking countries may look weird....
Maybe it's bettertake off these small flags on your shoulders... LOL!!!
Another option is a beekiping mask or suit, but choose a dark colour.

think i have something with mycorrizas, will look into mycos, no idea where i'd get that locally.

I found them easily in grow markets or plants nurseries in grains with some other beneficial bacterias. 12 euro a kilo.

will drop a few seeds in any spots with dead plants. i don't really have any spare ones ready right now, so it will have to be seeds, either that or i transplant one of my getting too big mums outside?

Have always some spare when dealing with outdoor nature.
Start 3-4 seeds indoor and bring them out in a couple of weeks in case you find some loss.:comfort:
One year I lost all my clones transplanted out for draught and inufficient mulching. So I took my old mother plants, transplanted in larger pots for a week, given some root stimulator to build up new strong roots to get some vigour back and let them lay in sun gradually for 2-3 days, I brought them out. The became great and very branchy, bush like plants.

But there's still plenty of time! 1 month nearly of veg before flowering period begins.

Good choice with your shovel.
Anyway outdoor guerrillero needs always to adapt to things he finds locally. So it's slightly different for everyone of us.
Good karma with everything,
peace
Dr.P

why you say to chose a dark color? i also noticed i got less ticks with darker pants then lighter ones, so is that a known thing? because typical advise will include to wear light colors so you can see them easily.

EXACTLY!

My brother had a project for university for a biology program who studied ticks as a indicator of health of wild animals in the area.
To catch them he used to wear a white paper suit and roam into the wild, exactly because they're attracted by white color, and they're easier to spot later to collect.
If there's a large number of them, it indicates the passage either of wild animals like deers or foxes, or sheep for example.
Take the needed precautions, as ticks can carry nasty disease.
Wear boots if you can.
Take care, bro,
Dr. P

I can't offer any great guerilla suggestions, but I will wish you a great outdoor harvest GM. Sulphur in the blood system is a turn-off to many biting pests. We used to eat the match heads out of our MREs for the sulphur :)

well i went to check up on them today. was a rainy day and i dressed really well. managed to get home with only 2 ticks on my shirt at the end. was sweating a lot though, but better safe then sorry when it comes to ticks.

alas when i got there i saw sadly that only 4 and a half plants have survived out of 11. i put new sprouted seeds in each spot with a missing plant, not sure if they will survive. in one area it looked like they got eaten by deer, but in the best area it was birds i think.

at least i have a handle on the ticks now lol.

great to have ya along for the ride man. i'm a bit bummed out at my large losses. last year the deer left the plants alone in that area, but theywere a bit bigger when i put them out. oh well...

update, 2 Frisians and 2 AfghanDiesel are still looking well

Afghan Diesel

see how the top leaves look pecked? saw a bird take off from there just as i arrived.

Frisian

5 spots were empty like this in this area. while the other areas 3 spots each had a stem left like when deer bite them off. i'm thinking to replace the missing plants with some old AfghanDiesel mums i have. the ones i put out seem to be doing well so might be better then starting seeds at this late date.

my afghani diesel that was put out first, she's looking really happy it seems.

another fd, as you can see this one has also been left alone.

while this one has been raped by the birds poor thing. she could survive if they leave her alone i think. but that's the one i count as half a plant when i say 4 and a half survivors lol.

what about making some sort of cage from chicken wire? they can be made offsite, folded flat for transport, lightweight and can be painted to blend in.

Ouch bro, you sure that's not a wild strawberry? :)

I would also suggest cages, specially if you have rabbbits/deer around. Tubes (open end) might be all they need to get a good start and be left alone.

Like you suggest, you can certainly use the same spots were plants were gone, soil is still good, innit? And def better to substitute with a full grown plant (mothers), unless you want to keep 'em rather short.

Good to read that you have the ticks under control... Just thinking about it gets my balls itchy

Your to much mon, I'm totally jealous, I was going to go back outdoors this year but they grew beans instead of corn :( next year then.

But I'm sure you'll get something good out of of this so I'm in.

Good Luck Mon

I`m not aware of any bird that will attack plants like that apart from Pigeons on a salad/veg crop , have never heard of an MJ plant being pecked . I seriously reckon your just keeping the odd deer happy with a little snack .

yeah have come to that conclusion myself too, next year i will add cages from the start again.

went today to put 3 mums out that had gotten too big, now there was only 1 Frisian dew left and the 2 clones. for some reason the animals are leaving the clones alone.

yeah the tick thing is as covered as it can be. lots of clothes and baby oil plus tick repellant.

we will see, it seems i should have insisted on cages, even though the plants i put there last year were left alone. i guess those young plants i put there this year were just irresistible to the local wildlife. but yeah i still have my hopes up for some decent harvest, if not this year then for sure the next lol. actually the 3 mums should do well if they can get used to the soil. i do hope i get something as my plan was to use it to make some holy anointing oil, as i read how many folks are helping peoples rheumatism and other aches and pains by applying that stuff. if not i'll just have to use a batch of bubble making indoor trim and popcorn buds to make it.

i guess you must be right, it probably is deer, found another plant missing today, so down to 1 Frisian and 5 Afghan Diesel clones. i just hope they leave that last Frisian alone. i guess i should really go cage it tomorrow. it just seems weird how they left the plants alone in this spot last year. but i guess i needed to learn this lesson again the hard way. just looking into some double fun for next year, when i will cage every plant from the get go lol.

i'll post the pics i took up tomorrow, at least i got the chance to mix some chalk and a few other amendments into the soil which i'd forgotten before, now just have to hope the 3 new mums make the transition to soil well. i added some mykorrhiza containing stuff into each planting hole so the roots would have all the encouragement possible. that's the German spelling "Mykorrhiza" not sure what the English is.

that Swiss army shovel is really awesome, top quality. it's really made to work with not like some of the crap folding spades being sold. both me and my friend tried buying folding shovels online and both of us had them break on the first use. but the army stuff is real quality, just a bit of a short handle.

i'm also worried about the deer coming back and eating the afghan diesel too once they polish off the last Frisian. i guess i'll have to go and put some fencing up, else i won't be able to relax, lol. even the big plants could be hurt if the deer starts tugging on them before they grow into the soil, they could tip them over.

i really like that shovel :) brings back memories of my army days :) the swedish army type is pretty much the same... if not exactly the same. the ridges in the wooden handle seems to be the only difference.

keep it up mate :) im enjoying the show.

We like a sprinkle of tasty moth balls around the grow.

Nice update Gaius .... the mother plants look at home all ready ,cannabis is a amazingly hardy plant ... like the shovel also but that thing would kill my back ...what about making it a screw on handle so you can extend it to what size you like ...

@ Claude Hopper

So do mothballs really work at repelling dear .. ive herd people say they dont work and some say they do ?

Rocket,

They work on the deer around here as long as I toss several fresh ones each week a foot or two off the plants.

Maybe the moth balls work for me because my deer aren't hungry. I live in pretty fat country for deer. They have lots to eat and they get so large that people poach our bucks and sell the antlers to Texans who want bragging sized racks.
