Air pots & Smart pots...

fwiw......re-useable grocery bags(you know the fabric "green" ones) have been proven to be just as effective as the smart pots but can be picked up for much less $$$....this is courtesy of red spaghetti...he's running them side by side with smart pots right now and they are performing just as well

Smartpots over airpots. I have used both!

They are the only way I will grow Sweet Tooth now, totally eliminate any issues with being rootbound. A flowered plant can be easily revegged in them no problem also without any transplanting! :good:

more work b/c you should water them slower so the water doesn't just run out... Automated water is easier to saturate the medium just enough over a longer period of time.

here's the side by side bobble was talking about...

two exact cuts from the same mom, taken at the same time from directly opposite branches. I put one in a 3 gallon nursery pot, and the other in a 2 gallon air pot. Both plants were in the same mix with the same watering schedule, and both were each topped once...

here they are at 42 days. The air pot clearly kicks the nursery pot square in the balls...

Sometime in the near future I'll be doing a bigger comparison grow between a bunch of the different air pruning pots (air pots, smart pots, plant warriors, rootmakers, etc) to see which ones are better than others, so keep an eye out for that.

That looks very good. How much more would that produce?

This confirms that some sort of airsupply in the ground would improve production capacity?! If true I am building one right now :)

Thanks m8!

I read big bag type material would also do because the air can get in.

But I wonder what a controlled air supply would do to the roots. How much more air could they take?

Try some searching, you're not the first one to propose this idea...
However, upon further reading and discussion, the consensus is WHY? (and yes we know why, but the idea is WHY would it work?)
Soil dynamics, organic interactions and such.
Air root pruning is the shit, though.

Why would I be the first? That is what you come up with holmes.

Weird jimmy shows the diffirence. It should work.. Also other growers told me that this would work.

Airpots and passive hydro go hand in hand, once a root has made it to the bottom of the pot I then feed bottom only.

Before i started feeding bottom only I used to veg with an E.C 0.9 to 1.1. and in flower E.C 1.2 to 1.6. and at various stages of the grow had to flush and then ease them back into grow mode.

Ive done 2 grows now bottom only and airpots, and have reduced my nutes by half for both veg and flower throughout the entire grow.

3 week old bs 2.2 clone.

And this grow atm is receiving the same treatment only on a bigger scale, 19 days 12/12 and 2ltrs a day in the bottom.

E.C for the back half 0.8.

The front portion is G.H.S lemon skunk this is on a massive 0.35. but i belive tis quite normal for L.S.

10 ltr AirPots.

Those airpots look wicked-wcked expensive too.
Has anyone tried growing in soil in big net pots or pond baskets? Surely it would be a very similar effect-without the pretty eggbox pattern though
EDIT Doh, posting without reading the whole thread.

They are very expensive, that's why I stick to my old proven Smartpots. I love them and they work excellent for me. I won't change from them until something significantly better or cheaper comes along.

CUZ....that's just how I roll homeslices..cheap and real!

I've been using the Walmart reusable shopping bags, the blue ones. I got em for 99 cents each, they have handles, and can handle around 5-7 gallons of medium. I'll post some pics later when I get my camera, but they have been working great for the plants I transplanted them into. They compare very nicely to Smart Pots, I'd recommend those trying to save a few bucks give them a try... :tiphat:
