Where the Droid heads at?

So is this a thread for android users or a place for you to bash anyone who doesn't have a T-Bolt or use Verizon?

I'm getting a consistent 10 MB down and 1.5 MB up on Sprint 4G. How's that so bad? No data caps here, either.

You do realize, the T-bolt is a rehashed Evo with more ROM? How innovative.

I was bashing the Evo and the Evo only because its on sprints trash of a network. 1.5mb upload on a 4g network? Thats a fucking JOKE. My 3g gets a .75 mbps upload. lol. I get 5+ upload and 15+ download CONSISTENTLY. Whats a data cap? The only cap Ihave is on my HOME internet through comcast(Because theyre douchebags like that).

Do I love my Bolt? Yep, why? Because they took the best parts of the Evo(Which was a decent phone nothing special) and gave it steroids. Then put it on a REAL network. I dislike sprint for MANY reasons.

And if you want to actually speak about the differences between the Evo and the Bolt, you have to dig a LOT deeper than JUST the RAM aka Read Accessible Memory (Not ROM aka Read ONLY Memory).

I love the new car smell of Verizon's LTE network. I think the speeds will go down once theres more users, but for now its the platinum standard of cellular data networks.
Hey McLab, im thinking of getting the Xoom tablet from Verizon. It's due for a 4G upgrade from Verizon sometime soon. Its highly rootable, with many different roms and kernels available. Whaddaya think about the tablets?

Honestly? I think theyre honkin HUGE! lol. Theyre beastly though overall. A buddy of mine has a Dell android tablet from ATT and I want it. Its the perfect size for me. Small enough to toss in a pocket, but big enough to watch good vids on. Just wish they had an update for it.

The Xooms look SAVAGE! Im slightly jealous youre looking at them. I just dont know know how I feel about moto anymore though. The whole thing Jha saying that Blur will save the droid just made me puke from laughing. Blur is HORRIBLE. But hey, whatever sells. Not only that, but the whole locked bootloader thing bugs me. Not that theres not work arounds, but its just a pain in the ass.

I did hear rumours that the Xoom wont get 4g soon which is lame. Ive been checking out the Galaxys though. Theyre SUPER nice for anything with graphics and thats all Id use the Tablet for.

With all that said, if I had the money for one, Id buy Galaxy in a hot second. lol.

Ahh. I see. We've got a typo nazi. I know the difference between ROM and RAM. I've been tinkering with tech long before you grew hair down there.

Congrats on your innovative, groundbreaking, revolutionary phone and finally getting on 4G.

And thanks for confirming my suspicion that this thread wasn't really open to all Android owners.

Cheers

RAM is random access memory.

Tablets are awesome. My mom has a xoom(she wanted 3g). It's pretty nice.

I have an Asus Transformer, and it's just pimpin'! I tether to my phone for data access so I didn't need one with 3g. It also means I'm not stuck with 3g, and can "upgrade" to 4g when i replace my phone. The transformer has the best screen of the android tablets so far, an IPS type, same as the ipads use. My hardware is better than an ipad in just about every other way. To be fair, honeycomb still feels a bit like a beta operating system, and not all old apps run well on it. This is the one area where ipads are better out of the box. But for tech heads and those willing to dig into their devices, it's hard to beat a honeycomb tablet. I use mine daily, and it has completely replaced my laptop(fixin it up for mom to use at home).

One note about screens, samsung has the best with their OLED tech(looks good in direct sunlight), but everything else about their tabs leaves me unimpressed.

Sammy does have some nice screens in their phones and tablets.
They seem to be slower on providing OS updates on their devices, though.
The new Nexus S is drool worthy.

Virus makes a really dope rom for the Evo if you do go that route. Virus is my favorite ROM developer, and one of the best. Im slightly jealous of the droidX and having a working GB. We have one for the Bolt, but its been bricking phones so Ive yet to jump on THAT train. I ALMOST bought the DX. Its a nice phone with a ballin ass screen.

Thanks for the tip on the Galaxy tablets, McLab. I dont think ill be buying a xoom.
Yeah, tablets are definitely not as mobile as a cell phone, but if you regularly carry a bag around it can easily replace a laptop.

Are you talking about Nexus S II, Stedenko? Do we know who's carrying it and when it will be released?

I carry so much shit with me on a regular basis I just dont have room for something else, and Im not using a murse. :p Dont let me sway you from getting a Xoom. I still like em, but I do like the Galaxys better. :p Supposedly the Xoom 2 is coming out soon though.

I think the Nexus is gunna stick with Tmobile/Sprint.

Edit: Just came across this little tidbit as well. I wish HTC would do something like this. http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/08/samsung-shows-affection-to-cyanogenmod-gives-its-devs-a-free-ga/

Damn, Mclab, you found that article as soon as it was posted. Youre really dialed in on all things Droid, arent you?

And reading that article, I think I meant the Galaxy S II, not the Nexus II...

You mentioned something about that earlier. Is that the FM radio? And the bricking issue prevents you from flashing another ROM?

The bricking issue prevents you from having a phone.

"
Brick is a literal term, it turns your device into a paperweight, AKA A brick.

Bricking a device goes beyond the actual components. You can brick ANY electrical device through MANY means. Bricking, in short often relates to some process that will often permanently destroy your device software-wise. It is often unrepairable except for that usual rare method that MAY save the device.

Bricking usually involves the firmware of a device and the very hidden memory that is often carried over through hard resets and such. Think of it like the "Brain" of your device. If it gets ever so slightly tampered with in the wrong way (such as a flash, which would be the equivalent of brain surgery here) it can be permanently damaged forever.

Trust me, you have NOTHING to worry about here, if you read ALL the documentation before hand, and ask simple questions around, you will not brick your device." -Laos101

This is the best new thread for what a radio is and does.

Re: Where the Droid heads at?

So all this talk about bricking and I have a small story to tell. So last weekend I was on my to having rooted gingerbread on my DX. Well I had a file that was missing about 10kb and got me stuck in bootloop. So trying different methods to no success drained my battery. Yeah this was a serious problem because my phone WOULD NOT charge at all. As soon as I would plug it in it would go straight to bootloop. On another note I don't know anyone with a DX/DX2 to swap batteries for a day. On top of that the Verizon stores in my area are worthless except.for taking an hour of your life with little to no help(I took my battery in and asked if they could charge it, they told me that there is no way they could do it without the phone. Well I just broke down and bought a battery today(45mins of my life they took). Went to a friends house close to the store, broke out the laptop, viola, 15min later and its back up and running. All because of a battery. So after all this ranting I don't remember what my point was. Java. Hope someone else caught it though. Peace out

Lol. Jeeeeze. Thats shitty you had to go through all that. Can I suggest this?

Youve got 30 days to return that battery you bought. Take advantage and "Borrow" it from VZW, then when you get those, take it back. lol. The charger alone is worth it imo.

Not a bad idea but im kind of sketchy about them. I've heard waaaaayyyyyy toooooo many stories of people buying those and they are worse than standard. But maybe you have had experience with those that you would like to share.

Eh, everyone hears about the bad all the time, but rarely anyone talks about the good. Ive been using my ebay batteries for my Bolt and my mom uses ebay batteries in her D2 with no problems. I bought a pack of three batteries and a wall charger. The charger alone is worth the price, but tacking on a couple extra batteries pushes its worth over the top IMO.

Its been two months that Ive been using these batteries on my phone and Ive not seen any ill effects. As long as you keep your batteries in good heallth, you should never have a problem. Never drain them all the way and try and keep them charged above 10% if you can. That goes for ANY battery thats Lithium ion.

The batteries that I got for my Bolt were the 1500 mah ones for the mytouch, and my phone came stock with a 1400 mah. While I dont see them lasting any longer now that theyre conditioned, I really dont see any less use either. They work well, dont get hot easily, and Ive not had a problem since I started using them. Every phone and battery is going to be different though. My buddy had to go through eight stock batteries before he found one that worked, and that was from verizon.

Re: Where the Droid heads at?

Wow. Good info. I will definately be looking into that. I was going to just go back to vzw and pay the 10$ extra for the extended life battery. But after hearing your testimony I think $10-15 off ebay for multiple batteries and a charger is a great idea. And the way I see it is 3 batteries at regular life will = more usage hours than 1 extended. Thanks man really good info. I love this icmag it has now served for more than just growing info.

There is a "Weed Strain Guide" app in the market that's pretty amusing. It has more listings with pics than I expected to see. Worth a snag, the version on the market is a freeb. I grabbed the full version from mobilism.
