Hi, i cant create a thread in breeding for some reason??

I was just about to order marijuana botany, but on reading a review it says its very scientific, almost an advanced breeding book.

Ive some breeding understanding but wanted something for a beginer to intermediate level.

Could you suggest anything?

Oh, im happy to look through threads on breeding, i am doing and will continue to, but wanted a book to take fishing.

hi theyre ,sounds good day fishing, reading up on breeeding and smokin some fine green ;)

Soma's Book is useful , so is an older book by Mel Franks (Marijuana growers guide). Otherwise breeding isn't restricted to cannabis... look beyond the fold

breeding and genetics are fairly universal and there arent really any beginners books on cannabis breeding specifically - or advanced ones for that matter

i got
"Breed Your Own Vegetable Varieties: The Gardener's and Farmers Guide to Plant Breeding and Seed Saving" by carol deppe.
it has lots of good general info about f1's and line breeding etc - also you can read it in pulic without incriminating yourself.

Hey man, yeah thats it but i think you forgot the munchies :) the perfect day on the bank.

This is the book i thought about getting earlier, its the one most talked about but i didnt know if it'd be too full on. I remember reading a breeding article once and thinking w.t.f! but after rereading a few times it started to make sense. Hope that happens with this.

Cheers for the link ill have a look

Thanks.

Cannabis breeders Bible by Greg Green... sounds like a contender. The review on amazon sounds like its from the author, lol very detailed indeed.

Thanks guys.

Pot is not some magic plant that violates the laws of nature. It behaves like anything else with genes, so just figure that out and you can apply it to apples, oranges, dogs, cats and weed.

Once this diagram makes sense you are well on your way.

Mendelian law is a drastic oversimplification of genetics as we know it today. OP, you might want to to start with what has been mentioned and then move on to some college level genetics textbooks. These can be easily identified by searching the net for syllabi's for genetics classes.

It might be an oversimplification for scientists, but for someone who doesn't understand recessive and dominant traits skipping over it would be like putting the carriage before the horse. Of course if you have the equipment to do DNA sequencing you can skip the methods used for 100 years of plant breeding.

Cheers, yeah it kinda does.

W's and R's are traits (particularities like smell or earlyness).

And W and R represent the same trait? like early and late??

To be fair all i want is a book to read whilst im fishing. I'm not going to master any botanical science, but i do expect to understand what im reading. I probably wont understand it all but i'll take what i can and use it throughout my grows, one step at a time.

I just want to read a bit and be able to imagine/predict what next years crop might be like and feel like i have some kind of positive influence over what is happening.

It is a false premise upon which you build the rest of genetics until they correct it. I am simply saying that the idea that there are only dominant and recessive traits and they they are controlled by one specific gene simply doesn't mesh with what we know about genetics. I agree that we have to start somewhere but its like teaching Newtonian physics as "correct" when it is more accurately described as "incomplete." Is it a good basic idea in the sense that it is a simple way to represent a much more complex system, but we later find out that it isn't totally true. If the OP truly wants to know about genetics and breeding he would be better served to try and get a much more in-depth understanding of how genetics works and that will take some serious research and time and desire, just ask Chimera. :)
