quite a few generalizations being tossed around here from people who probably have very little idea what they are talking about. oklahoma is actually not that bad-- low unemployment, affordable housing, friendly people, a developing capital, beautiful lakes, okc thunder! the laws are obviously backwards w.r.t mj. yes, it sucks but overall as far as states go you could probably do a lot worse.

While i agree that the sweeping generalized statements could be made in better taste, the defense you put up to defend Oklahoma's position is laughable at best.
Your lakes are flooded river valleys full of sewage and the legal limit of arsenic allowed in a public water shed, the low unemployment is shadowed by the thousands of American Natives and relatives living off of nothing but dirt and alcohol that the state continues to feed them. Its cheap to live there, cause nothing is there, and you can be wiped of the earth just as fast as the wind changes there. All your developing capital is based off of petroleum and Natural gas, so it is simultaneously poisoning all the well water that is under all this land, while taking the profits and sending it overseas to other offshore accounts and foreign businesses. The institutions that are in place to help develop the future capital and minds for your state are run by backwards racist cronies that are only interested in keeping their former powers in check while continuing to suck off those owl gods they love so much.

Sadly, there are much better off states all the way around Oklahoma. It is the worst state in the union, on multiple accounts, with civil liberties being the tail end of a long list on why this state should be a crater. I know plenty of other states, even in the Bible Belt, that would not allow its citizens to run their state into such a depreciated suckhole that it would materialize such insanity and allow it to stick as law. This is a failure on Oklahoma's part, like it has always been. Dont blame the lawmakers, that state is the way it is because its citizens let it fail, the lawmakers are only doing what they can get away with. To all the people that still live there, get smart and get out, it's the only way for it to change. I left, and will never look back.

Lived three years there (Ft Sill)... then moved all the way to Washington State (Ft Lewis).

It was like leaving arid hell and arriving to the promise land!

The only things I miss are the enlisted club (Impact Zone), cheap gas prices and buffalo burgers.

The private prison industry is huge and getting bigger, Florida is privatizing 18 more prisons. In the states like Oklahoma it is a big biz. From the time a person is booked until they are released, each prisoner is figured on a dollar amount, hours worked etc vrs costs of incarceration. Its really a fucked up deal. It also removes jobs from both the private sector as prisons provide in house labor and manufacturing for a really long list of companies. So the prisoners are paid slave wages literally, and most states then allow the prison to bill the prisoners for room and board medical etc. So it truly is slave labor. Many states that have private prisons also contract out state services to the prisons. That Oklahoma has made prisons an industry speaks about how poor a state it has become, if prisons are a leading industry it speaks volumes about American and what direction we seem to be headed
