I would go see more then one eye specialist just in case...

I have heard of stories where two docs didnt say the same thing

I personally, would go see 3 if the 2 dont say the same thing

ddrew.... As I was reading the first post, I knew immediately where you were going and the "pits" that go along with accepting it. I think that vonforne hit a bingo. I'm the youngest and I watched my father and all my siblings get at least reading glasses at or very near 40. Of course, my turn had to come as well.

I have always appreciated my great vision and hearing. I've always tried not to take them for granted, so now that I'm in the "midlife crisis" years, I try to do the same. With the right frame of mind, my failing vision, hearing loss and never ending ringing (tinnitus) aren't so bad. :D

krunchbubble, It's good to see testimonials like yours. When you see enough of them, it helps to feel it's an option for you too.

I at least need some flip shades glasses for my indoor gardening needs. One or the other, glasses or shades, isn't cutting it. :D

man I have tinnitus too and Im nowhere near 4o...

no fun huh, the sound makes it seem like there is something wrong inside my head

eye protection!

my last supervisor, man was she a hot woman

the thing is, she wore these glasses, that were like glass bottles bottoms
when she wore contact lenses man, was she even hotter

hey at least you can have glasses, the other day I was just thinking about glasses, how they were a very practical invention, and how all these people with a little bit of a handicap got the chance to see things well

If that's all you need them for is to read then your still a lucky man. Just go down to the drug store and get some over the counter reading glasses. Some people call them Cheaters.
Good Luck

I'm not sure that lazik is the answer for you ddrew, in krunch's case he had a visual disorder that could be diagnosed and corrected; you on the other hand if I'm not mistaken are losing your vision slowly due to the aging process.

ddrew you'll likely continue to lose a certain amount of vision over time and so how many lasik corrections could your eyes withstand over the years?

if it's really only reading then these reasons shouldn't even be considered.......
imagine trying to fuck, not being able to see! and your chick is not going to let you bounce on her with glasses on!

rain - fucked.....
swimming - fucked....
workout - fucked....
pretty much anything physical - fucked....
ever had your glasses break on ya - fucked....
ever try to wear a helmet with glasses - fucked....

and let's be honest, even with piss poor vision I already know where all the important parts are on my girlfriends.......

I would also like to recommended Lasik eye surgery.

I suggest the Custom wavefront procedure. (NASA,tigerwoods, brainsurgeons )

KrunchBubble has it right! I'm also 20/15

Glasses are fucked.

the problem w/the lasik surgery is this, it removes (burns) tissue to make the correction needed; but as his eyes change later over more years yet what if it's deemed that they need some of the tissue/lens that's already been removed to continue to make future corrections.......?

and instead of your doctor saying "we've removed too much tissue from your previous surgery(s)" you'll hear something like this "we believe you've reached the extent of good a surgery like this can do for you."

if it's going to be a continuous degenerative issue be cautious and get 2nd & 3rd opinions as to the good lasik can do for you as opposed to the obvious good a one time surgery resolved krunch's problem.

Sometimes I get super stoned and then it gets hard to focus on things. My vision will just kind of blur for the night and then in the morning it is crisp again. Maybe you just need to stop smoking for a little while. Eat carrots as well.

I started to realize that newspaper & magazines were a bit blurry for me but I mostly put this off to fatigue as I did most of my reading at night.

I dead reckoned it was vision loss when I realized I was salting the fuck outta my food 'cause I couldn't see the stuff anymore.......

I have two pairs of reading glasses, pluss an old pair i use in my grow. I wear contacts normaly but still needs reading glasses on top to read a book. whitout contacts i have glasses as thick as bubbles from trailerparkboys(more or less an inch). un aided i can count fingers at 2 m.
so just go and get the glasses, and think how much worse it can be.

Yeah S4L, the thought of Lazik does worry me a bit, and I'm hoping it's just something minor, and all I need are reading glasses.

On a side note I would just like to say.

Just came to the realization today.

A while ago I was trying to get out a splinter, and the more I tried to focus in closely on it, the less clearly I could see it.
I didn't think much about it at the time, but today I noticed that when I bring normal size text(like in a paperback book) any closer then about 10 inches from my eyes, it starts to blur, and I can't read it:frown:

I assume I used to be able to read it that close, I guess I don't really know when this started, but I do know that as of today there is no kidding myself about it, my vision is not what it used to be.
I guess I will go in to one of those eye exam places where they do exams and make your glasses in the same spot, anyone have any suggestions?

I wonder if exposure to HPS lights may have caused/accelerated this, or if it's just part of getting older for me, and would have happened anyway.

Now I want to get tested asap, and find out what the deal is, and if I need glasses.

Anyone else want to share their experience with failing vision, and how and when they first noticed?

Given the point in your life that it's happening it sounds like it's just the normal old age variety of eyesight loss. There's not much you can do other then to avoid straining your eyes with poor lighting. I doubt the HPS light is having an impact unless you are fond of staring directly into it for long periods of time.

There's also health related sight loss such as what's caused by diabetes but given your profession I doubt that's it unless you were born diabetic.

Nope, more then likely it's just old age and eyesight loss is usually the first thing followed not long after by hearing loss. Fortunately for you there are lots of options these days and so hopefully you'll find a solution that works for you.
