*The K.I.S.S. Method*

I've been using 5g of maxi w/ coco, but I've been consistently showing what looks like mag deficiencies after about 5 weeks in flower. Not too surprising in coco, but I'm considering upping the maxi to 7g, since that's what folks now seem to be prescribing as the Lucas formula. I think I'll give that a shot, in the hopes that it'll take care of it without having to add a cal/mag additive.

Anybody else using 5g of maxi show some deficiencies in coco, and switch up to the 7g formula with any success? Any reason why the original post still refers to 5g/gal, and so many people appear to be still using that formula, when 7g does appear to calculate much more accurately to the supposed Lucas ratios? Kinda confusing.

I use 5 grams/gallon but I'm running OG Kush varieties that like a low PPM.

I AM however supplementing with cal/mag when I use R/O. My tap is so-so and I dont add the cal/mag if using tap.

I Am just going into flower for the first time with MAXi, and I was doing 5g in VEG, 2 days ago, i added more "how much not 100% sure" But i brought the ppm up to 1200 and they seem to be loving it so far.

I plan to up that again into flower and rotate koolbloom.

Yes and you want pH to be 6.3-6.8 for soil.

Thanks bud thats good to know, do you think i could use the modified lucas formula at 6/9 as opposed to the original 8/16 or which one would work better? Thanks again.

heres a pic of my setup to give you a idea of how i water.

I think it is going to depend on the strain but I have only used the 6/9 ratio. You could do half the plants at 6/9 and half at 8/16 and see which one works best for you. How are your temps and airflow? Those plants look a little heat stressed to me.

Okay ill stick with the 6/9 ratio at ph 6.5 then. My temps stay in the 67-76 range and i have my fan that aircools the light set on a thermostat thats set for the day temp to be around 75. I just recently put some other fans in the room to move some more air around. Im hoping after this feeding i gave them it will perk them back up. Do u think its bad that my drip system doesnt water the whole container and only drips down in one spot that spreads a little bit around the pot.

ok running the k.i.s.s method with tap water and maxibloom. the maxi drops my tap water down to 4.8 PH. i have to add like an ounce of ph up to get it back to the 5.8 to 6.0 range. is this gonna have adverse affect on my plants? i have tried using silica blast as ph up but still needs a shit load to bring my ph in range. any suggestions? btw im using str8 canna coco

What kind of PH up are you using, and how much water are you using? It's not all that unusual for my unbalanced nute mixture to end up with a PH in the high 4s, and it does seem odd that you should have to use that much solution to adjust the PH back into range....unless you're mixing up a 5+ gallon batch, in which case an ounce of PH up might not be all that excessive.

Temps sound perfect, with the drip only hitting one area I would try to get it close to the center where the plant comes out of the dirt. Are those 5 gallon bags? If so you might want to make two drippers per plant, if they are 3 gallons one is usually fine.

I use API ph up.
It takes me 26 drops of ph up "4 gallons" to bring it to the 6.5 range.
Thats alot i think, But So Far so GREAT!!! I have never had such lush plants, Not a deficiency or Burn anyyywhere.

i'm using the same things as you .... maxi & silica blast (i use the dosage on the bottle ... no more ) as ph up mine gets to 5.6 with that mix so i add earth juice ph up to bring it to 6.2 for me . EJ ph up is just potassium bi-carbonate . comes in crystals form ...easy to mix . i'm also worried about using the chemical ph ups on my plants . was using a shitton of GH brand ph up to get it into range so i started looking around for different things to use . I'm using RO water & when i add my calmag (every other feed ) i don't even have to use the EJ stuff to bring it up .

Greetings to the forum,
First time grower using the Kiss method with MB and after having read every post on every page over the past couple of 3 weeks I'm convinced that KISS is the way to go.
I do have a question (the first of probably many, lol) I bought Botanicare Coco product called 'Ready Gro' with 30% perlite added in. What they didn't tell me at the hydro shop was there's also nutes in there as well. Here's the profile:
From earthworm castings & compost
N .001
Phospate .0001
Potash .001
&
1.25% Humic Acid derived from leonardite ore
My question should I back off on MB nutes for a couple of weeks & use water only. & then start 1/4 tea per gallon & up it from there as dictated by my ph meter? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Many Thanks & Cheers,
bruce

My rule of thumb is....hit them very lightly and then up it when they look like they need more...sometimes i'll start anywhere from 180 ppm to 300 ppm.
Also, I love to use diamond black (GO humic/fulvic product)...This increases nutrient up take and therefore it uses the nutes in the soil at a little faster rate...this increases growth rates and allows you to start having ultimate control using liquid ferts at about week 3...that nutrient content of the Ready gro is very low and it is just there to "electrify" the coco. I have only used coco once a long time ago and didn't wash it...lets just say, I haven't tried it again...I hear mixed things about the ready gro...some bags have ridiculous levels of salt, don't they? Anyway...good luck bruceinpacifica.

If I wasnt going to do an organic type grow, I would find a cheaper soil mix. IMO of course.
