Sup, Some of you may remember my old thread (link in sig)
this time round I have cut my bucket system down to 2+1 buckets and going for some scrog action.
So I've got two 400w lights
Nuting with gh 3 part flora. sitting at 900ppm right now (160ppm well water base)
4" inline bringing in cool air from outside (will be revised soon I know its not the most efficient way)
The ac unit that has been folded into a water chiller, on a closed loop. Bucket>pump>radiator>res coil>Bucket
This not only chills my res but also chills my room air temps as well.

Here are my buckets n plants

sediment water filter, keeps the water nice and clear.

Here is my water chiller, temp controlled closed loop. Total cost: 100 bucks.

After the chilled water leaves the chiller it goes to this little radiator where I have two 200cfm computer fans essentially air conditioning the room.

This is the res chiller coil, after the radiator it goes through here to chill the res temps to 60 degrees.

So thats that, Will update with progress. Hoping to get a nice closet full o bud!

Yep looks BAD ASS but ditch the wire and go with construction fencing, or other such plastic netting.

:joint:

Yea, my first scrog started with chicken wire and quickly changed to plastic, when they really started to stretch through the chicken every leaf was getting huge tears so I changed to a plastic netting that was much more gentle on the leafs

But your set up looks sick man!! Love the DIY UCs

Welp, I was going to update this thread as progress was made but i kinda forgot about it. Here we are about 1-2 weeks into flower. I see why people wouldnt normally use chicken wire as the holes are pretty small trying to tuck those branches through has resulted in some snapped stems here and there. Live and learn Overall though its going really really good. I could have done a bit more training than i did which is why the canopy is pretty uneaven but whatevs. Closet full o pot is still a closet full o pot :3

I also reccomend that people never use exposed copper anything in their res, I had an issue with some heavy metals poisoning in my plants until I took that copper coil out. I bought a stainless steel coil instead. My diy chiller has been working out super great, the radiator for cooling the air in the closet is working well and you get blasted with a nice gust of cold air whenever you open the door. So if any of you other guys are using a slightly big chiller for a small setup, Throw a small radiator in line and blow some air through it. Free cold air! Better than running two ac compressors all day

I just noticed this thread and thought that was copper tubing in your res. Was scrolling to the end to see if anyone else had mentioned it only to see you figured it out yourself. Nute solutions dissolve copper from the pipe and can kill your plants. Your diy chiller setup is pretty brilliant, though - it's obviously working for you. Nice and efficient.

Nice setup you have and I love the DIY approach.

I was wondering about your grow system if the roots ever clog your setup? I see this is your second go so any info you have is appreciated.

No root cloggage so far, I cant really get a good look at whats going on inside the actual growing buckets, i check every few days to see if they are still bubbling but the plump hasnt had any issues so far. I use a pretty nice inline circulation pump made by laing specifically for pc watercooling loops. I would imagine the semi sharp impellor in there would just chew through roots. I have to clean it out after every run though as misc hair and crap gets stuck but its no big deal.

I had an issue where one of the hydroton pebbles got lodged in the inlet pipe for the pump but that was easily fixed.

yeah the copper was a problem the first grow (misdiagnosed as heat stress, it was fuckall hot in there though) Light yellowing all over the plants and good temps led me to believe it was the copper, sure enough soon as I switched it to stainless steel it all got better. Diy is definitly the way to go if you want to save a assload of money.

where did you go man what happend to the grow i want to no more about the water chiller i need one of those you should hook me up with some plans on how to do that curious i am.

I'm still here, nearing the end of flower. Looking pretty good. Any questions in particular? Its a air conditioner with its top removed and the evaporate coil immersed in a bucket of water then circulated with a water pump through the coil and the small radiator.

Re: Diy undercurrent scrog take two.

Yea ditch the chicken wire... Make a square out of 3/4 inch pvc.. put eyelets every two inches all the way around and thread some construction twine through them all.

Come harvest time cut one end pull it all out and go to town... Much easier than netting or fencing.

would it be the same thing to run the coil in the same bucket that the initial radiator is in or would that throw everything off. sorry having a metal block.

The innitial bucket is filled with antifreeze and water, The point is the only contact with your res water and the cold water is thermal transfer through the coil. the chiller water is a closed loop. I did not want to circulate my res water through the chiller bucket because the air conditioners evap coil has copper in it and god knows what else.
I have a new grow coming thats filling an entire two car garage so... Just waiting to wrap things up with this run. I will make a new thread about it soon
