In my bag:

Driver- Taylormade R7 (gonna switch to a Cobra this year though)
3 Wood- Cobra S91
5 Wood- Callaway steelhead (my fav club)
3-PW-Ben Hogan Apex Edge
51 wedge-Mizuno model from last year cant remember the number
60 wedge-Cleveland don't know this model either
Putter-Off brand from the sports store, but it works great

I am 100% ready to go play some golf, man I wish I had seen this thread earlier I would have commented long time ago. Besides growing MJ, golf is about my favorite hobby/recreation, I could watch it and play it all day and never get bored.

Finally got my first hole in one this Aug.... notice I said first... :D I actually got the second in November.

First was a 200yard Par 3 and I got under it a bit and it went high..... while acting disgusted with the horrible shot my friend goes "IT WENT IN!!!!!" Unbelievable

Second one was a 130 yard par 3. Hit my PW and it dropped in 12 inches beyond the hole and rolled back. Again I thought I hit a bad shot.

Getting started late this year, suspect I'll be hitting around a 12h.

Greatest fall ever ! :D

Only hole in one I ever came close to was a par three. There's a rise in the fairway and you can't see the green from the tee. I knew I was on the green but couldn't find my damn ball. My partner looked in the cup and there it was. The folks in front of us could have thrown it in as a gag. Almost wish it hadn't happened because I'll never know. And with my game I doubt it'll happen again.

Just want to thank all you golfers out there for playing, I would not have the job that I love if it were not for the game and the support of the people who play. Thankyou, and lets all please remember the work that goes into great conditions before we start swinging those putters around on the greens after missing a two footer. lol:thank you:

Nice thread.

There's nothing better than league night. 9 holes, 9 beers, 9 one hits.
Truthfully, I don't smoke until around the 7th hole. The other 7 hits are after golf at the bar.

Currently, I'm dragging around some Ping i3 irons, a Cobra 454 comp driver, a couple of old Callaway fairway woods, a TaylorMade rescue hybrid and a 2 ball Odysey. I've come to love the Bridgestone 330 balls, although I have a box of PV1s and some other Titleist balls.

I'm still a hack after 10 years of league play, struggling to get below 85 for a round. I did win over $500 last year though, winning the regular season championship and betting on some other teams to win the playoff.

Can't wait for golf season. The Master's always gets me ready to play.

Well, that's a balance issue and and "I'm in a hurry to see where the ball went" normally. The important things to do is to have your back straight, head down, but your chin high enough to let you make a good turn.
So if you're lifting your heel I would try practicing with your weight on your heels for a few shots and then weight forward on the balls of your feet as well.

Back and forth with a position/balance move will explain "feel wise" what you'r balance should not be.

Then it's a mental affirmation that I will watch the clubhead it the ball, I say this to my self before my second "waggle" and it helps me. "The arms hit things where the eye looks" Then for me I always say something about my backswing, "low and slow" so I remember to draw my backswing Like i have to knock over a pitcher of water just out of my arc on the ground behind me.

Just stuff I do

You guys ever play "play your favorite club" ?? You play an entire round with 1 club and a putter. I You need to learn to hit every shot there is with a 5 iron, long, short, low, high. Then your 9 iron or whatever.

I first read about this in highschool from Seve Ballastero's book about growing up on the beach in Spain with 1 golfclub and having to figure out how to hit all the diff shots with that one club.

Great practice tool Do you guys have a solid pre/post shot routine for every shot and putt? That brings a whole new level of consistency

My best advice is play gold not driving range. I hardly practive irons etc at the range. I warm up.

You're only on the Tee 18 times in a round but you're in fairway and aproach shots triple that..... where should the practice time concentrate on?

I put and ship and practice in the sandbox but that's it. At this stage I really only need to brush on irons etc, warm up then play real golf.

Brings up an interesting point. Since I'm actually a world class pool player. If I didn't give that up 10 years ago.... I would be on TV playing..... of course still be a bum like most pool players.

Pool and golf are similar in that, I never got great by practicing with my self. Just like golfcourse at the driving range. It just doesn't do it in my head. The one thing that made me great at pool and good at golf was playing, not practicing. On a course or a pooltable for 5000 you have no room for error. That's it. You'll lose and it'll hurt until you can't lose any more. Now the same thing is true without money involved. You don't have 100 balls in a bucket to zing all over the place.

You have 1 ball and you can only hit it 83 times (my number) Make it count, like the ballcages.... you gotta pick your ball up at 83.

Best advice, if you're an over 90 player quit trying to save the ball with miricle shots out o the trees. Most people I tell to lay it up, out of the trees then hit a good shot form a good lie and you'll shave strokes. You start seeing 8-10's on your card.

Man I love this game...... if there wasn't a storm warning I would get out there today. My course is 36holes but I run on and play the back 9 and you can cut back go hole 9-16, then cut back to 12 and do 12-16 again (funnest holes) and then finish.

World class pool player? You probably have heard of AZbilliards.com, I guess. To make a living at pool, you would have to be about the equivalent of a +7 handicap at golf.

G-Smiley, first let me say, when it comes to golf, everyone's different when it comes to theory's and what works best for them. However, I disagree with your theory when it comes to learning how to become a decent golfer.

However, depending on what type of golfer one would like to be, scratch, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9+ handicap, is attained by how much time one's willing to spend quality time on the practice range, not playing.

Even the top PGA players on tour, hit 1000's of balls per-week on the driving range, practice bunkers, & greens, where as they may only hit around 280 shots & 70+ putts total over 4 rounds (72 holes) in a PGA Event.

No offense intended, however, if your satisfied shooting in the low to mid 80's that's fine, and fun golf for many, although you certainly wouldn't want to play for money with anyone I play with on a regular basis. They would not only have all your money, but the deed to your home, and title to your car, before you walk of the 18th green.

If one is serious about taking strokes of they're game, they will attain their goals much faster, and more efficient by spending more quality time on the practice facilities ( driving range, practice green & sand bunkers) then trying to learn to hit a fade, hook, or draw, ect. while playing a round of a golf.

And when I say "quality time" on the practice range, that doesn't mean just bashing balls about. It means actually making every ball in the bucket count, to learn to hit shots that you will need out on the course to take strokes off your game.

Yeah world class ;) Meaning I've beat a foreigner.....

You beat a cpl Germans and some filipinos you can call yourself world class....right? :D :D Did lose a chunk to bustamante though.

In all seriousness, yeah I played pool....., from B.C. down the I-5 to California. A nineball player since 11, one pocket as I got a bit older. I don't get to play with out giving up weight and It's much easier for me with one pocket lol

I still play some onepocket but honestly if I drop in I usually end up on the snooker table playing golf there. :D

Yeah, AZ found that place in 99 and found my way off. Of course I played pool then and didn't spend much time on forums. Then it was a bunch of local "equipment collectors" in my area, lol Sit around and argue with cuemakers of full splice blank history lol .....Some real nice people though. Last I was there was to sell some of my nicer cue's since I was working with a cuemaker on my own design. AZ Looks to be quite the big deal now...... I love to see things successful..... way to go mike.

And seriously I'm normally modest with most things but pool...... don't wanna sound full of myself..... but I play pool much better than a +7 plays golf. I devoted my life to pool. Not many golfers have the ability to spend 2500+ hrs a year from age 11-29 golfing like I did pool. Not enough sunlight lol I was called an "A" player at about 17. About the same time people quit calling my pager and just started calling the pool room for me.(including teachers) :)

I can still play, on my own dime or even well enough to get a stake horse.

And I never managed to make anything that could be considered a living, playing pool. You can look around at the pool hall retirement party and all you have are broke men with bad eyes and no retirement making proposition bets with teenagers that just bought their first cue. I've never done a single thing as well as I play pool. Nothing.

Wow this brought back a flood of memories.....

Do you play?

I'm going to defer to you on the best way to become a great golfer.

What I said is based on what works for me (well my friends and I) :) who would like to be good at golf but also run a business, have a family, grow herb and face the fact that I would like to play golf 3-4 times a week and if I add that to the practice range fees even the local course puts me at $40 for the morning. So yeah I practice but I would rather play. Same reason I rock a push cart and my friends rent carts...... so I can play one more round. :) But like I said before,... chipping and putting practice and then playing, took me from 100 to 80 in 1.5 seasons after 10 years off. I'm really happy with that considering time and money invested. There's a muni course in my neighborhood (cart driving distance) and a round is 30 and I think a bucket is like 10. Cart would be another 20. I get in and out for 30.

And at that level of golf, yes, I am very happy golfing in the low 80's I really, really, really, enjoy it. :tiphat: Did you read the post about my hole in one's? Yeah, I really, really, enjoyed that :dance013: I'm not the best player in my circle but I am the best gambler. It works out alright. :)

I've been in the hospital twice this month and will have to go under the knife in a couple weeks so the golf season is off to a bad start for me. I have no idea how long it's gonna take to recover enough to golf :( the Dr. says October but come one, that's too long Hope you all have good seasons.

All valid points.

Not everyone can afford to join The Golf Club of Atlanta at $250,000 per-family member!

And even decent public courses are hard to find at $40 a round theses day's. And most people have job's, family, and others responsibilities, which limits they're chances to get in 18.

I'm fortunate that I've worked for the past 30+ years, for one the largest developers of resorts & hotels in the world, many with some of the the top resort courses worldwide, which I play free, and conduct much of my company business while playing 18. I've also lived in the same home for the past 25+ on the 4th fairway of a nice course, with 4 more courses in the development in which I live, that today would be out of my price range to purchase a non-resident membership, much less a home in.

My kid's are grown, and I don't have a nagging wife at home anymore either, and although my girlfriend doesn't play, she knows I'm going to play golf as often as I want, and is very understanding of my passion for the game.

Therefore, if I were in your shoes, I would most likely do the same, PLAY whenever I'm able.

My pervious post was directed at lowering ones handicap the fastest & most proficient manner, if one has the time.

Congrats on your hole-in-one. I've been playing golf for 40+ years, have witnessed many, and have never made one. I've had 100's of shots hang on the lip of the cup, and even bounce out of the cup on the fly, but have yet to have one fall in one. My youngest son who's 20 has already made 3, 2 of them which I was able to peraonally witness, and was just excited for him as if I had made them myself. I have made made 4 double-eagles since I've been playing golf which are a thrill as well, and remember each with fond memories, as though I made them yesterday.

I started a 2011 Masters thread.

Please, take part in the thread this week, with myself and other ICMAG golfers who will be glued to our TV's Smoking, drinking, and enjoying 'A Tradition Like No Other!"

BTW, I do play a little pool, however, I would starve to death if my living depending on my pool skills.

I play, not nearly as well as you it seems. Might have a chance against you at some three cushion, but if you're betting with Bustamente you pocket balls a lot better than me at pool.

I've beaten the ten ball ghost (race to 10) on a nine foot table a couple of times, ran 63 at straight pool, so I'm a decent player, but nowhere near good enough to take it on the road.

One pocket is awesome. Check out onepocket.org if you get bored.

Masters picks for me are Phil, then L. Donald, Tiger, and maybe Watney for top 4.

Hello Boys!!!

Trouble, as always - a pleasure my friend.

Where to begin - yes I golf. I live, eat, breathe, and sleep golf.

Don't need to get into too much detail here, but have definitely had my share of competitive playing around the world / north america - and i'm not looking to stop anytime soon.

In terms of getting better - if you can break 100 - learn to hit the ball higher. If you can't do that (hit it higher), just chip and putt. Seriously. 90% of your practice should be there.

You may think you're a good putter, but you're not.

TRUST ME

;) :tiphat:

D-Biscuit, I missed that one.

I bet she had some crazy stories to to tell?

She says John was more notorious than Tiger. Apparently ten years of trouble knocked her off the high road, she took a pic of a groupie in bed with John and mailed copies to the family members, lol.
