I couldn't agree more, the problem is, unlike lots of other failed states, nobody is willing to intervene. In 1993 The US got mauled by Somali Militias in Mogadishu, and since then neither they nor any other country has been willing to intervene.

Somalia has a long and illustrious history of resisting foreign occupation, including naval action

I teach ESL and have had a bunch of folks from Somalia in my classes. Most are humble and kind people. A few have scared me. (religious extremists, and some are women.)

Most folks currently living in Somalia are between a rock and a hard place. There is no real government, and religious hard-liners, Al Shabab have worked on gaining control for years now.

That said, the pirates should be dealt with and treated as the thieves and kidnappers they are.

I was watching PBS news hour last night, and they had a guy on saying they(pirates) are coming mainly from one specific area in somalia.

I'm not likely to be out on a boat in the Indian Ocean anytime soon so I really don't care, just passing time in the thread.
