looking nice!do you "secure" the 6"?rrc to the baskets?ive heard of roots snaping if the bucket is a tiped over but who here has tipped over a thousand dollasZ?lol not me >;).thanks peace

I would have the rock wool cube 3/4 buried into the Hydroton, I feel it helps with stability and having the top of the cube a little higher than the top of the net pot helps prevent stem rot.

I have tipped over a huge plant many timess never full of water though... They are notsecured... what my train of thought was higher water level like half way up the net pot and keep the rw on top... i wanted to try and get the double pot theory into hydro... i figured if i keep top watering the rw it will be little roots the will take a hold in the hydroton and spider out all side up high and all throught the ten inch net pot... the water level is the key in this though im trying to keep it high to use as much as the hydroton pot as a can and prevent stem rot by haveing the whole thing out of the water line all together...

may be wrong...

nice clean setup poopy everything looks beautiful.
another good song to listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3NBpGD-6k4&feature=related

well they are fine like that but if it does get tipped or anything all the weight from the top of the plant will rip the roots from the rocks is the only thing i would worry about honestly if they are stable then no worries,,,and usually put bamboo to hold them up just tape it around the bucket instead of sticking down thru hydroton that way the weight is dispursed a bit,,,,just my opinion,,,its ur room but me personally i would bury at least 1/2 to 3/4,,,but ur thinking is u will get more root room i understand more roots more bud,,,try half and half see what happens,,,peace
plus and i am sure Miss B will agree since PK has given u a case of the OVS thats just 4 inches less head room u have to work with lol

From what I gather once the roots hit the juice you will let the rockwool dry and the taproots in the rock woll should harden up kind of like stem right. If thats the case I dont think stability will be an issue at all.

^I hope he gets stuck in there for a few days, then I won't have to feed him:D
then you would have 2 crying baby's on ur hands lol

they will be stable as long as they stay still,, but if they get tipped over the roots arent goona supprt the weight and they will rip right out of there,,,,and i am no expert but i wouldnt let the rockwool dry out,,, some of ur biggest fattest roots are inside the rockwool,,,would u want them drying out?,,,just a thought,,,,peace

Yeah I'm still thinking 1/2 to 3/4 of the RW below the top of the net pot.

you guys are raining on my parade... i was thinking up setting up a drip system for the RW set it up on a timer one a day or somethign so it dont get dried out... i still think im gonna try this setup... i cant do half and half cause the whole point of trying it this way is for the water level to be high if i bury them i have to lower water level so i cant do half and half... well see i guess.....

interesting idea,i bet something like that would work really well in a run to waste system.are you worried about the rockwool altering the pH?

i was thinking drippers good idea,,, if u use those ones that only release so much per hour u wouldnt have to use a different resevoir,,i would be more worried about tipping and them braeking than them drying out, but yeah think if they were dry how brittle and easy the roots would be to break,,,,
hey bro i would never rain on ur parade hell i would build a float for it,,, i am just giving ya my 2 cents,,,i hope it works out for ya for real who knows it might increase ur yield, and for real u know i hope it does,,,i am just worried about the structure and stability,,,peace
gotta suggestion,,,take 4 screws drill them around the edge of ur drip net rim take some chickin wire across top of rockwool in an pattern and hold the cubes down that way if they would fall over the wire would help hold the rockwool down keeping roots from breaking away as easily

I think the dripper idea would rock. Once a day would keep the top of the hydroton and the rockwool moist but not drenched. the roost should also fill out the top of the hydroton better and keep the stem dry enough to avoid rott. If it works you could patent the first drdwc system. Drip rdwc. You need some of those block cap things for sure to keep the algae down untill the canopy fills out.

when i first ran hydro i ran waterfarms and i thought of the whole dripper rockwool cap idea then about 8 months later i saw them in a magazine i was like dam thats a good idea lol,,,why didnt i call someone about it and patent that shit,,,lol,,,,peace
