How I got roots in 6 days.

Please do share your heater controller brand/model. I need one of these immediately.

It is made by Hydro Farm. I just checked it, and it said 81.3F and guess what my digital meter inside the Clone cab read??? 81.3F...pretty accurate for me!!!

I'm starting to think my dig meter is off. I have it's probe in my dome with my mat heater set to 80, and my "grow bright" meter is reading 70. It's actually reading 49% humid even when there's mist in there and a floor of perlite that is wet.

I took a picture of my dreadful clones. They're more experiments then anything since I have some real good genetics in bean form waiting for me to perfect my technique. The second pic is just my setup. The Styrofoam pad keeps the mat directly off the cold floor. I'm in a mother tent with a t5 over head.
I filled the bottom of the tray with perlite hoping I could keep the humidity up and even out the heat from the pad. I place the cups directly in the perlite. The "walmart cloner" will soon be out of the dome. This is my second round with it and it just isn't working *for me.*
Any major mistakes I'm making. I believe in this method so I just have to adjust to accommodate.

**Edit** Just picked up two round gauges from petco that are saying 82F and 85% humid in the dome.

Did you say there is a suction cup? Where do you stick this too? I am using a rubbermaid box with the pad underneath.

How long have your clones been in there? Pictures look like the Coco is pretty drenched, damp...not soaked is what you want. Get the Perlite out of there, if your temp/humidity is 82 and 85% you are in the perfect zone. Also, what kind of Coco are you using? Does not look packed tightly, you need it packed tight against the stem. Cut down the lips of your cups instead of having hardly any Coco in a full sized cup. Once you cut the cups down, have some holes poked in the bottom, fill the "cut down cup" FULL of moist Coco. Pack that Coco down nice and tight....then poke a hole in the middle and insert your clones that have been prepped. Pack your stem down tight, and stick in your clone area. Do not water it anymore until it has roots. Do not have it sitting in water or perlite. With your temps and humidity right, the extra moisture will screw things up.

Here is an example of a clone that has been rooted for about a week. I have been cutting my 9oz cups down so they are shorter. The faster the cup fills with roots, the better!!

This is a picture of the probe sensor with suction cup, attached to the side of the rubbermaid. As you can see my gauge in the rubbermaid says 79.9 F...it was just above 80 before I snapped the shot.

The clones with no white marker are 5 days old. The others are 3. I took the 5 day out of their pot real quick to give some air.

Cleaned up the tray and got rid of all perlite. Looks much cleaner. Thanks for helping me out. I really appreciate the advice.

Your clones should not be yellow that fast. You may have too much light, that and lack of fresh air can cause yellowing. What kind of Coco are you using? The 3 day old ones do not look that bad.

Cut the cups, and tamped down the coco. Only one was damp and a bit squishy. The rest were perhaps a bit dryer then damp. They just didn't compress against the cup so it was condensation we saw. They look good now and I can just sense that this will do it. Thanks a million for your help. I'll report back in a few days.

Do you have a PPM meter? I used B'Cuzz before and it burnt my clones because it is pre-nuted. If you have a ppm meter, take some new Coco and check the run-off. I do not trust any Coco besides Canna anymore. If the B'Cuzz it too hot, that can make your leaves yellow real quick as well.

holy shit. i didnt even read the last 6 pages but i think i need to switch growing mediums. Ive been having trouble with clones and soil of my growing plants drying out too fast on top while getting too compacted and staying pretty moist too long. Great stuff guys thanks for this info.

I agree on alot of things I saw as i skimmed through. And learned some new tips to try for now. H2o2....might try that. Definitely need a new hum. dome. Mines all fallin apart. Where do you guys get those heavy duty foot tall ones? I have a crappy walmart "seed starter" version. I think another problem; I'm givin my clones fresh air too soon...I noticed many people say they dont air them for 3 days. I usually open them the day after cloning and from there on out, a couple times a day for a few minutes. Keys to cloning definitely are low light, humidity, and temp. Dont let them temps swing around trust me. Another problem Im having: just moved to a new place so im still looking for that perfect spot, but taking the clones from an 80ish degree area to a 70 degree area stalls them for sure. Also dont put your clones under your 400w with a towel or two over them, its still too much light. Cloning definitely is different for everyone; i never used to have problems before i moved, because i knew exactly where to place the clones for the perfect environment. I'll pick it back up after a few failed attempts.

If you need more humidity...just spray the bottom of the plastic wrap. Works perfectly!! Good luck

So that's what it was. I rinsed my coco and kept ppm'ed the runoff. I knew something was in there. Luckily I had done my homework and rinsed the stuff out.

I slowandeasy , im trying this right now , whit 4 clones , canna coco, rhizo, whit a dome in white plastic cup , a t5 54w at 2feet , rootech clonning gel, a little scratch 1 inch , i hope it will roots . pics tomorrow

Excellent!! Once you get than hang of it, all of your clones will root that fast. Good job

No problem! Glad it worked for you. Once you do it a few times, they will root faster. Just keep damp, not wet. Bottom feed a little bit if they dry out, it will promote roots to grow downward. Once the cup is full of roots, you can water more often. Good luck
