Thanks, the light started as a high bay 400w(was supposed to be a 250w but was sold 400w) , the glass shield was from the casing of the light . I got a new drip tray for the smaller pots so now I might be able to get my little minature DWC unit :) I can't wait to see if this little thing works

About to start my next 400watt grow. Growing out LUI for the first time so I'll be taking clones and keeping mothers of the better yielding and better quality pheno's. Hoping to get a good ortega and Swt out of a pack of 10.

What are some of your total yields under 400?
Also how long did you veg and what size containers? ScrOG or SOG?

I'm bouncing around the .5-.7gpw area, but trying to get closer to 1gpw with least veg time

A couple pics from about 12 or 13 days ago (havent uploaded new pics yet). I have since chopped 4 branches off the Pakistan Valley, 3 off the Lemon Skunk, 3 off the Strawberry Blue, and a few days later one branch off the Kandy Kush. All plants have 9 or 10 main branches on them so I have left the majority of them to get more amber and the Kandy Kush is taking a week or two longer than the other ladies to mature and ripen but no biggie because it is beautiful and I hope to have success re-vegging the Kandy Kush because of the 4 I think she could be the keeper. Anyway enough stoner rambling and to the pics!

I went into the store looking for a 250 and walked out with a 400. It even turned out to be cheaper. My only worry is my space is 2 x 2 x 6. It fits in there fine and with the air cooled hood it stays fairly cool.

Does anybody else use a 400 for such a small area? Anyone think it'll be a headache to have it in such a small space or should it work out fine as long as heat is under control?

This is the first time i've ever used any HID lighting. Any advice at all would be appreciated.

I looked for weeks for a good price on a 250w, and over and over again I found a 400w that was either almost the same price, or lower. So I too ended up with a 400w light :)

I run mine in a 2x4x6 tent, and the footprint doesn't quite match the light for maximum efficiency, but I've been well pleased with the results. I'm sure you'll do just fine, just make sure that you have your ventilation in order, it's going to be pretty important for heat control in a 2x2 area.

I run a 400 in a 30" x 25" cab. I would get more out of the light if I could use a bigger footprint, but it outperforms a 250 and I don't have any problems keeping things cool.

Your grow space is going to be (at best) slightly hotter than the surrounding air, so you have to keep the surrounding air temperate. If possible vent you air to another part of your house so that your cab or tent taking in light warmed air. Also locate air intakes low where the cool air is. In the summer air conditioning is probably necessary.

Thanks for the replies and input, guys. My buddy came by and let me have 3 pc fans. I 1 in each corner. Probably gonna add a few more and the cab has stayed pretty cool. Hasn't gone over 80 all day. I'm actually surprised, my tiny CFL cab ran at at least 75. That was without any ventilation. The inline fan is def doing it's job by exhausting all that hot air from around the bulb into the nice cool attic.

In the summer, AC will only be an option if it's completely necessary. We usually don't run it unless it get sweltering which is rare this far up north. Luckily I have a big window that is literally 1 foot from the closet door where the cab is.

I've managed to put this whole thing together with little help and no experience. The only thing i have yet to do is install an intake. So far I don't really have one, I can't think of what would work best. The cab is a simple wood frame draped in panda film, anyone have any ideas for a way to install something that would let air in but not light??

They way it works is that if it is 80 outside (and in the house) the cab is going to be 85 or so.

I'm at 45 degrees N. For me this is just a hobby. I try to shut it down in the summer so I don't end up running AC so that I can run 400w of grow lights and a big ass fan. I have another smaller light for veg and for much of the summer moms can be kept going in a window.

I use a 8'x8' darkroom vent. Something like this might work for you. I'm not sure.

Edit - with something like wood frame draped with panda you would want more than two of the vents I am using because your tent doesn't have the structural rigidity of my cab to withstand the vacuum forces created by the passive vent system.

Everything has been going good so far. The cab has stayed nice and cool. I got everything light-proofed. I got another question, how far do you guys generally keep your 400s above your plants? I got the light at about 40" from the tops of the plants but I feel like I could drop it down a few inches.

I keep mine 1ft or less away typically. If you have a large footprint you have to raise it a bit to achieve coverage. With a small cab-footprint you want to keep as close as you can.
