Tr33 and one Q - Nice to have you in here. Sorry it took so long to give thanks, this project is a slow one.

update:

I was able to clone the mom, but my neglect killed the cut. wah-wah.... At least I know she can be cloned. I just made a few cuts to try again.

more to come.

ok I just popped around 80 or so f13 x panama. There aren't many seeds left so this might be my last sift wasting so many seeds. I mean right now I am looking for mutant seedlingsm but in the future I think I should explore what else is in the mix.

Time will tell!

High 3dDream,

Im glad to see you are still working on the mutant pheno, perseverance is a must for breeding and more if you are selecting for this recesive kind of traits :)

Best wishes with the new seed batch! Hope you find what you are looking for.

update to recap:
1st run: 70 f13 x pan = 4 extreme mutant & 7 mutant of these only 1 was a keeper

2nd run: 42 f13 x pan and 14 (f13 x pan) x pan = 0 mutants

3rd run: 42 f13 x pan = 14 mutant seedlings (some may be eliminated very soon)

So right now 16% are mutant from the initial cross. As far as stable mutants, I think the number is still 1/154 until these new seedling prove themselves. Some are very promising. The mutants that popped out of the ground later and have smaller roots that the rest. A sign that lack of vigor and recessive traits go hand in hand? There are two that are mutants with vigor (but that is still not saying much).

btw my numbers were wrong for this last grow, I previously reports 80 seeds because I was high at the time. 42 was the magic number. Germ rates are 100%. The borg did attack a few seedling and I am still thinking that mutant looks can be a stress response. I dunno, time will tell.

pics to come.

high 3rd dream and all the ace crew! i thought i'd chime in with my experiences of mutant dj and sativa hybrids. i grew out five of mr. alkaline's vanilluna x red-stemmed kalimost this past year and each one was heavily mutated and completely sterile. however, they smelled amazing and cleanly floral, and FINALLY finished a good month after everything else. the high is quite nice, light and refined. here is one of the girls right before harvest:

bodymind - Amazing leaves! She looks like she has the elongation thing going on. The lack of pistils is like my lady. I am hoping that mine will no longer be sterile now that she is more mature. Just a hope :)

Thanks for sharing!!! BTW one member on this site say that we are looking at a OPT pheno. I dunno.

i think that the mutations are def a dj short trait and that they come from from the sativa side of his lineage... and opt is the sativa lineage of flo and f13, so that makes sense. whether or not it actually makes a difference in the final product after all this in and outcrossing is a mystery to me, but the plants are very interesting, though i didn't find the high, which was great, to be worth the trouble of messing with the terrible vigor and fertility problems of the plants... i'm going to continue to honor and grow out these mutant beauties, but will try to find similar highs in unmutated lines in my future breeding.

i hope yours gives you some pistils!! good luck!and keep up the wonderful work, my friend!!

After months and months and months I can say that the mutant trait can grow out of everything I have seen, but it is really interesting how these plants are stuck in mutant mode. They kill off all mutant branches in cuts that eventually grew normal (it took over a year). I also added doses of beneficial organisms (gh subculture-b) and my roots have never looked better. It was at this time that my main mom started to grow normal. I have a cut in flower and she is solid mutant. I think the mutants I have are really sensitive plants that show stress. I still have home of breeding, but this run wont be a seed run.

I think you are right bodymind,

This kind of heavy non vigorous mutations are interesting for ornamental and outdoor camouflage purposes but it is not worth if you just want to grow/breed vigorous, healthy, powerful and fertile plants.

I love dj shorts strains cos their aromas, colors and effects but some of his lines need more vigour, fertility, better nutrient assimilation and better spider mite resistance. As we commented previously, crossing a good pure sativa with a good dj shorts colorful indica is the way to find the balance between vigour, fertility, pest resistance and the positive traits of dj shorts plants.

Hello 3dDream,

It would be interesting to grow the mutant mum in very different ambiental conditions to actually learn what kind of ambient needs to express consistently the mutant traits. Enjoy your sinsemilla grow!
