At that much 'tane you would want to look into recirculating/recycling systems.
You can buy N-Butane as R600 refrigerant without the mercaps.
R600A is Iso-Butane.
It is still damned expensive, so we at skunk pharm built a reclaim unit, as has already been suggested and are presently doing shake down.
We are using vacuum and recovering it with a refrigerant recovery pump, as enlightened brother Foaf has done the ground breaking on.
Besides the costs, recycling N-Butane is also more ecologically friendly and gives the firemarshal fewer nightmares and less of a heartburn.
Rumor has it that drop dead gorgeous maiden wood nympths may also exit the undergrowth and ask to bear your children for being so thoughtful!
Probably just a myth, but who knows for sure? Hee, hee, hee, snicker, snark, snort, awhooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I got about 1.6 from 8 grams of material. It was a good run, surprisingly smooth smoke. A few of my friends that normally immediately cough have been able to hold it for longer. I always go for 20 seconds myself.

Considering I can old my breath for a good 70 seconds I don't think 20 is going to do me any harm, certainly. =) I do experience a noticeable qualitative difference from holding in longer, it can start to become overwhelming towards the end. That doesn't happen when I hold my breath normally for 20 seconds, so something is obviously happening. I enjoy the rush.

When you normally hold your breath for 20 seconds, you just inhaled a fresh breath of air, not a fat bongload where precious space that could've harbored o2 molecules are instead taken up by combusted plant matter, cannabinoids, terpenes etc.
Also, I believe all the THC is absorbed in 3.21532 seconds, not 3 (internet sarcasm).

whats the best micron size for bho extraction? i have seen 50 micron screens in some tubes and 120 micron screens in others.. whats the preference?

I've wondered the same thing, but what seems logical to me is the smallest micron possible is the best. the smaller the micron, the least amount of plant matter will be able to get through if the herb is ground up. not quite sure what size the ones are that come with okief extractors, but I have 2 and I love them. as long as you put some solid nug at the bottom near the screen, you can have finely ground herb packed through the rest of the tube without getting plant matter in your dish.

In a BHO cannabinoids dissolve into the butane and this is how they are seperated from the plant correct? If this is the case than yes you are correct we should shoot for the smaller sized micron screens. Even 1 micron would probably be big enough (just basing this off personal experience with filtering other drugs; not sure how big cannabinoids are). However, plant matter certainly isn't 50 microns, that shit is filtered out way more easily than the micron size IMO.

smaller micron may cause more buildup of gas in the tube, I used to cap my toob off at the bottom and there were three holes in the bottom, sometimes if they toob was packed tight the butane with flow out the top cap and just waste an entire run. I started putting a coffee filter on the bottom of the toob instead of the endcap i bought and drilled and no matter how tight the erb is packed it always flows through.
