Let's talk about Molasses.

Don't flush with sweet. The product doesn't work like that. You will end up with buds that will not burn properly. Trust me.

What do you think of this molasses Guaranteed Analaysis

I ran out of blackstrap on my last watering and needing to pick up some more molasses even though I do also use floranectar I alternate using one each watering and the other the next. In fact to feed my soil more efficiently and increase the microbial and beneficial fungi growth on the alternate days when no feed is given I do add 5ml florablend ,5ml floranectar/or 15 ml molasses, and 1.5ml prosilicate which helps to raise ph, but I digresss the molasses I picked up is called.

Crosbys Family Cooking molasses ,which is a 50/50 mix of fancy molasses which is the highest quality sugar product molasses in the line up and blackstrap molasses , from what I could tell it is unsulphured as well ,

Guaranteed Analysis
Sodium 70mg 3%
carbohydrates/glucides 13g 4%
sugars 11g
calcium 10%
iron/fer15%
riboflavin 4%
vitamin b6 4%
magnesium 15%
copper 6%

Total weight 675g

Would this be a good molasses or would the 70 grams of sodium and6% copper cause problems ?

If not would it be best to continue as I have been feeding lucasformula full str 8/16 1.5ml silicate 5ml coolbloom 10 ml floranectar
In between waterings 1 tblsp molasses /gal 5ml/gal florablend 1.5ml silicate and if needed 5ml calmax (so far has not been used yet)

Does this seem like a good shedule or would there be any benefit to adding molasses to every water even if it is only 1tsp/gal with nutrient? Would love some input on this as I am a lone newbie grower with no experienced friends to show me how they do anything so I am leaarning as I go every facet of growing.

snagglepuss: great rundown!

To some peeps the %'s may seem high. think about the dilution rates before, and lack of chelators making some of these minerals void in "hydro". I love that some have a lot of Potassium, and some have none...

its a great profile. I run 1tsp./gal of molasses throughout. final flush gets 1 TBSP per gal week 1, and pure water til done.

I dont flush every week so I dont know about only using it in flushes.

Iam bummed that you erased all your posts Mistress, I was really enjoying the discussion.

see post # 35... member that posted # 34 did side - by - side comparison (molasses) @ ic mag... see also post # 71...

numbers on the side of the molasses container require conversion from daily value % of 2000-2500 Calorie human diet to ppms &/or ec... see link, post 35.

maybe 3 different topics. 1. molasses 2. micro-organisms 3. h202.

some gardeners prefer this/that, some dont. topics never end...

molasses basic n-p-k-ca-mg 1-0-5-2-1. + chelated micronutrients...

plants dont eat microbes, they exchange non-organic ions, for nutrition - to make their own food :2cents:

I think folks tend to stick with one or the other, but that's definately something I was wondering in starting this thread, if anyone was adding Sweet or Carboload to their regular molasses feedings.

Different topic-- I also don't use any molasses during the final flush. Think that is the wrong idea.

I use around a teaspoon of blackstrap mollasses every fourth watering in veg..and every other in flower...my question is: how long can i keep that gallon jug filled with water and mollasses...capped up it expands under pressure...im assuming its fermenting??? is this bad? i normally change it fresh each time...opinions???
cheers

I used so much that when it rains a small creak of brown surgery water comes down the road.

I am really not joking, this last rain the water was clear, after what, months?

Well, I came in here to check on the calcium content of molasses. It's always been a part of my lineup, and this grow I've used less than ever with my organic tea, that was just barely applied an entire month into vegging. Anyway, sure enough, I'm seeing what looks to be a Ca deficiency. Very barely, but enough, that I'd like to hop on it now. Molasses is the only foliar additive I have laying around, other than the pelletized lime I bought long ago, and the powdered which I used the last bit of in this new pre-ferted mix. So, I'm hoping it'll correct this Ca deficiency in it's tracks.
Might just throw some crushed pelletized lime in the foliap app just for peace of mind, regardless of the nay-sayers on pelletized lime.:chin:
Here's some pics of the early signs Ca deficiency, which is much easier to make out in person:shucks::

Are you using R/O water? Adding dolomite to the lime probably won't help it needs some sort of acid in order to dissolve. The pelletized lime is coated with clay and I have noticed that it spikes up the ppm but that spike in ppm is not calmag and I suspect it could cause lockouts until it rinses out of the medium.

Nope, just tap that sits out. The deficiency is really minimal so the molasses alone should hold up until they are up-potted in about a week to more lime. I looked at my molasses last night and it contains a descent amount of Ca. Will update later, after I foliar treat them tonight before lights off. Normally, I'd let it ride out, but I really don't want the stress with em being flipped today. Thanks for the input supra:tiphat:

I can tell you that after a couple or a few days molasses + ferts is gross and has bad bacteria smells.

I don't know if anyone refridgerates mixed ferts but I don't ever bother. i always start with a fresh batch unless it's going to be used within 12hours.

I've used a mix 24hours after it was made for different plants around the yard/house...but again, I usually toss it if it isn't to be used that same day.

I noticed a bad smell after a few days also but I blame it on the lack of oxygen. Same thing when composting, without oxygen anaerobic bacteria take over. That is why when brewing orgabnic teas bubblers are used. Even shaking the jug a few times a day will dissolve some oxygen and it will smell sweet.
