A young soldier was in his bunkhouse all alone one Sunday morning. It was quiet that day, the guns and the mortars, and land mines for some reason hadn't made a noise.

The young soldier knew it was Sunday, the holiest day of the week. As he was sitting there, he got out an old deck of cards and laid them out across his bunk.

Just then an Army Sergeant came in and asked, "Why aren't you with the rest of the platoon?"

The soldier replied, "I thought I would stay behind and spend some time with the Lord."

The sergeant said, "Looks like you're going to play cards."

The soldier said, "No sir, you see, since we are not allowed to have Bibles or other spiritual books in this country, I've decided to talk to the Lord by studying this deck of cards."

The sergeant asked in disbelief, "How will you do that?"

"You see the Ace, Sergeant, it reminds that there is only one God.

The Two represents the two parts of the Bible, Old and New Testaments.

The Three represents the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

The Four stands for the Four Apostles: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

The Five is for the five virgins, there were ten, but only five of them were glorified.

The Six is for the six days it took God to create the Heavens and Earth.

The Seven is for the day God rested after working the six days.

The Eight is for the family of Noah and his wife, their three sons and their wives, in which God saved the eight people from the flood that destroyed the earth for the first time.

The Nine is for the lepers that Jesus cleansed of leprosy. He cleansed ten but nine never thanked Him.

The Ten represents the Ten Commandments that God handed down to Moses on tablets made of stone.

The Jack is a reminder of Satan. One of God's first angels, but he got kicked out of heaven for his sly and wicked ways and is now the Joker of eternal hell.

The Queen stands for the Virgin Mary.

The King stands for Jesus, for he is the King of all kings.

When I count the dots on all the cards, I come up with 365 total, one for every day of the year.

There are a total of 52 cards in a deck, each is a week, 52 weeks in a year.

The four suits represents the four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter.

Each suit has thirteen cards, there are exactly thirteen weeks in a quarter.

So when I want to talk to God and thank Him, I just pull out this old deck of cards and they remind me of all that I have to be thankful for."

The sergeant just stood there and after a minute, with tears in his eyes and pain in his heart, he said, "Soldier, can I borrow that deck of cards?"

from another thread:

"Wanna know why the king of hearts is stabbing himself? Here's something my friend came up with. You will first need to obtain the king queen and jack of hearts from a normal deck. Place them on a table in the followeing order: Q J K. Now the story begins. Common sense says the king loves The queen, right? Well, what's the qqueen holding in her right hand? A flower. Now, what's the jack holding in his left hand? A petal from the flower. So,the queen has presented a flower to the jack, and the jack has taken a petal. The queen obviously loves the jack, and not the king. The king, seeing all this, realizes that the queen does not love him. The king falls into depression, and eventually...(drum roll please) commits suicide! That, my friends, is why the king of hearts is killing himself. (thank you, thank you very much)"

and a link to another theory: this one is kinda dark

Well maybe the Queen was secretly a man and in a homosexual relationship with the Jack. The King then would have been doubly deceived.

I was checkin out a deck of cards and noticed a few interesting things.....first one is the "suicide king"....what king is gonna commit suicide? that doesnt make sense, mo.....look at the king of hearts aka "suicide king", there are 4 arms in that pic,...no other card has 4 arms....looks like he was murdered....second is the one eyed jack....put them back together and were missin a jack, it seems the jack became "two faced" and killed the king, mo.....the joker is wearing the kings crown ...and i believe the most "known" or used brand is "Bicycle".....if you asked me i would say this is because the king was killed bicycle....i mean the king was killed "by'a sickle"....i know there are more but those are just some of the strange things i found when looking through the face cards...the cards kinda tell a story, mo..

Hey man,

There IS a story behind the deck of cards...I will have to find it again... you're on the right track though... there really is an actual tale of mischief and murder with the face cards... I remember bits and pieces of it, but not all of it...

I will have to get back to you on it...:tiphat::tiphat:

definitely see what you can come up with my man...its very interesting....the whole idea of jack going up a hill to get water just doesn't make sense, water is down the hill, sounds like maybe he was "jacking" someones water and got caught up and kicked down the hill....why did jack have to be nimble and have to be quick, why did he need the candle?? ....one of the weird things i have found in the "jack and the bean stalk" is that that isnt what it really says.....ever heard of that quote "who spilled the beans" meaning who spoke....well if you look at that quote like this it says "jack and the beans talk" ....notice i just moved the "s" which could very well be mispoken/mis'taken easily....just like "Dire Straits"...more like "Dires Traits"....the "s" got misplaced on that also.....why is it called "jacked" when your things get taken..."jack" is just f*cked up.....when you say "jack and jill" it can also sound like "jack angel".... even the word "angel" could also be looked at as "angle" kinda like the angle you see things....they didnt call Dick the "angler" for nothing;)..... in the deck of cards the king and queen are surrounded by a "jack" and an "ace", when you put those together it kinda sounds like "jack ass":dunno::D...a see-saw aint something you ride, its how you see and how you saw:)....
are we the "be'ings" or the "be'ans".....jack and his little croneys could've been the "be'ans"....

:biglaugh:...the crazy thing is, is im serious;)....i dont believe any of this to be "coincidence"....its almost like a real life riddle or something....heres another one that might sound familiar..."Artificial" "Art-if-i-ci-al" "Art-if-i-see-all"....if i was making the world "make believe" or "fake" it would be "artificial" and that would be "art if i ci al"....same with the word "commercial" it says "come mer-ci-al" "come here see all" and thats exactly what it does, it wants everyone to come here and see all thats either for sale or any number of things that commercials are used for......

You guys may have read it but here's the whole story from that link:

The Suicide King

Modern playing cards are filled with layers of meaning and symbology that can be traced back centuries. The four kings, for example, are based off of real rulers: the king of diamonds represents the wealthy Julius Caesar, the king of clubs is the brutal Alexander the Great, Spades represents the strong but kind David of Israel and Hearts represents the… emotionally disturbed, shall we say, Charles VII of France. It is this king that we will be dealing with today. It should also be noted that Charles was the only one of the four who was actually there to see the day that his face was printed on a playing card, which may rationalize why he acted apart from the others.

Charles’ visage was put on the king of hearts at the very beginning of his rule, but he never really got a chance to come into contact with playing cards until many years later when he became very ill with a fever and was informed that he would be bedridden for the rest of his life. It was during this period that Charles began learning card games to pass the time, such as an early version of black jack, “vingt-et-un” (twenty one).

Charles lay in his bed for two years, constantly fiddling with the cards and always getting weaker. As time continued to pass, there were reports that Charles had begun obsessing over the idea that the king being the thirteenth card in a suit was causing him bad luck. He talked about how he was starting to see the number pop up everywhere and that he was close to figuring out its secret. Of course, his ramblings were blamed on the fever, and by the end of the second year, he had been declared insane, and his son Louis XII took over the thrown.

One day, several months after the end of his reign, one of Charles’ physicians went to his chamber to find the frail old man standing in the middle of the room wielding a large sword. Before the doctor could react, the king said, “Ils m’ont montré la vérité de treize, et il n’est pas signifié pour les yeux mortels.” which roughly translates to, “They have shown me the truth of thirteen, and it is not meant for mortal eyes.” Without hesitation the king proceeded to ram the blade in through the left side of his head (between the ear and temple) until it came out the other side. He wavered a moment, before collapsing to the floor dead.

After the incident was announced and it was made public that the king had gone mad, the image of Charles on the king of hearts was altered to show himself offing himself. Although the picture is now shown significant-ly less graphically, the image of Charles thrusting the sword into his skull can still be found on modern day playing cards. Perhaps the strangest part of the whole story, however, is the day that Charles chose to kill himself: 7/6/1462. Whether or not it was intentional of the king, the facts that 6+7=13 and 1+4+6+2=13 can only be explained as coincidences.
