I agree with your point that a cop has a specific job to do and should not let his personal agenda or delusions of grandeur get in the way of doing that job to the best of his ability. However, let me play devil's advocate here...

freedom of speech does have limits, as I'm sure you already understand. Yelling "FIRE!" in a crowded theater is a typical example. I'm far from an attorney so I don't have a clue what the actual laws are in regards to this, but I would imagine there exists an "obstruction" charge suited to verbally impeding the progress of an investigation (making it up, but you get the point) somewhere in the rulebook, yeah? So for all we know, these clowns were screaming at the top of their lungs while the cop was trying to read another suspect his rights, or just talk to him and ascertain whether it was necessary to detain him or not at that time. This is an awful example and I'm well aware of it, but the point remains -- we are not speaking on this subject from firsthand knowledge, or even second-hand knowledge...but rather information that we read and interpreted in our own way twice removed from the original source and with whatever spin the authors along the way may have put on it.

We only got one side of the story here, and unfortunately, the bandwagon effect tends to trump reason 9 times out of 10 here on ICMag, which more than often leads to a snowball of misinformation that grows by the post. I understand that a lot of our ICM family may be bitter or resentful about past encounters with LEO, but regardless of how we feel about cops, one thing is clear -- some of the comments that are just dripping with vitriol help no one and do nothing but inflame and already touchy subject.

I'm aware that this post will get me flak for being a "cop-lover" as similar posts have in the past, but I'm not bothered by it. I don't have any cop "buddies," nor any family that is a civilian LEO (one MP though, but he burns more than I do so I don't believe he counts ), and I'm not a real huge fan of interacting with police if I can avoid it. Bump into one at the gas station? Chances are I've done work for him through my business (computer repair/graphic design/seo/online marketing in a nutshell), or know his cousin who owns the store up the street, or he's just genuinely being friendly and asking me how my day is because I look like John Q. Southerner, not a burnout that stinks of patchouli.

So I don't really have a problem with cops as I've never had any truly negative experiences with an LEO that was not in LARGE part my own fault for acting like a loud-mouthed fool instead of a functioning adult member of society. If and when (god forbid) I ever do have an encounter with police that ends in my feeling as though I have had my rights infringed upon, I'll let you guys know and you can say "I told ya so!" But until then, I'll keep acting intelligent and responsible instead of hazed out and functionally retarded, and hold on to that freedom I work so hard every day to make sure I maintain.

The police are not legally allowed to arrest you because you are asserting your rights. You are not viewed as a cop lover just because you present yourself a little better, not actually defending their behavior, so i wont yell at you.

Back when I lived in the south, I had my rights violated by cops at least 20 times, even when being 100 percent civil! the second you say something that slightly suggests that they dont get to boss you around and bully you then they label you a disturber of the peace. I dont look like a burn out either. Half the time I was wearing a coat and tie for work. I just look like an easy target that they could take out there insecure aggressions on, and lable it "law enforcement". They are pussies though, because eventually when I got my Concealed hand gun license then everyone of them were all of a sudden shaky and less aggressive. they didnt know where my gun was, and they dont wanna start trouble with someone that is equally armed, and knows there rights. But unfortunately in many places you have to be legally armed to defend your rights to police or else they get to taze you are jail you for asserting your rights.

Take note though I have no issue with the officer that is just your regular nice guy actually trying to help people, but they are few and far between.

To extend on that though. I got rid of my guns because i would rather have my weed. it sucks, i miss target shooting, and skeet shooting. Laws have been created that if you have weed and a gun at the same time then you are a violent felon even if you have a concealed carry license. The drug war is a fascist tool to take away the second amendment defense of people that think for them selves.

I fear the rebellion that might happen in my life time, because there is thousands of people 10 times more pissed off than me. Never in history has there been no rebellion from oppressed people. The problem in the USA is waking up stupid people so they realize that their government is oppressive. that is hard when they have been pumped with pro USA propaganda from the time of birth.

After all my Anger over the issue though, I still think that in this country we can follow the Peaceful teachings of Martin Luther King Jr. to accomplish our goals!

LARGELY increased police force and police presence and arrest rates. i bet if you look up arrests for any crimes they follow that structure.

as far as the race part is concerned it could be a combination of things. as somebody pointed out earlier, maybe the white boys are smoking at home rather than in parks.

also, cops tend to be racist.
