getting rid of coco?

yeah i reuse mine many times over nowadays, have done 7 runs with the same coco slabs before now. some times its too conspicuous, or too much hassle to switch them too often, 3 runs should be the minimum really.

I often see posts about reusing coco, and I'd be happy to do so myself, but when my plants are done, the root mass is so dense I don't see how separating the coco out would be feasible. Am I missing something?

well the reuse is the easiest when you use automated watering, when you treat the coco like earth and let it dry in between waterings the roots will get very compact. but all it takes is a week or so after cutting and even very well rooted coco will be easy to loosen up. remove the main roots attached to the stem and the rest can be reused as is even if its full of fine roots, use a zym product and those roots will be used for the benefit of the new plants.

when you grow with slabs and drippers you just cut the rw cube off the slab and place the new one on top, the old roots decompose and the new plant thrives. all i do with slabs is roll the slab a bit and massage it to loosen the coco up inside. i used to spend time pulling all the roots out too, but realized after a few tests that it made no difference.

Ahh, let the roots die off and the root ball will fall apart easier, my dumbass already knew that, but didn't give it proper consideration in terms of reusing the coco. I'd given up on the idea because there are just sooo many roots, but if a zyme product will mop up all the little fine hairs then... sounds good to me.

I'll give it a shot, thanks Gaius, you may have just saved me some hassle and some $$$.

Yeah i let my pots of coco dry out for a few weeks in a hot growroom or similar, makes them really easy to deal with when reusing. I only pull the biggest roots out.

i have been reusing my coco for 4 cycles now, and i swear it's better than when i started. Key is to flush it well between cycles, and amend with canna/hydro zyme and some cal/mag every watering. Super easy to shake out the big roots, and the zyme takes care of the rest. I can get most of my coco back even with dense rootballs.

Reuse your coco, over and over. You will be happy.

Reuse it man ,
Go buy some pond clarifier-cleaner / enzymes n don't look back . There's a sweet ass thread on here regardig it's use verses the gold plated version = hygrozyme / sensizyme / cannazyme . It's almost exactly the same stuff but at 100x the strength and only 1/60 the price = 1 drop per gallon using the brand I use. It's derived from barley. If your coir gets to pithy / fine over time add some chunky bricks to it . PLH sells it by the case for really cheap and usually 1 day delivery since were so close - u n i are like neighbors n shit .
Congrats n G/B you n the Mrs. both on your new sidekik.

this is a great tip, it would have been my next logical step in a way, my supplier has been telling me for years that all zym products are basically the same and to buy this or that one whichever is the best deal he has at the time. apparently it all comes from the same source, so it makes sense that this stuff has other uses and can be gotten cheaper for non canna related use.

Crispi, what zyme product is it that you use?

I use cannazyme during the flowering process but not on a set schedule prolly like once a week.

I guess I can take one of my buckets when I'm done, cut the tree out and put a new one in and see what happens.

I've heard from a few ppl that the whole re-using process didn't work for them since they use phosphoload to stop the stretch..

It's called something like HG Drain unblocker and apparntely exactly the same as cannazym but u only need a couple of mls per gallon.

lol. not to revive a dead thread, but to revive a dead thread... You do realize there's always the green trash can?

I like to make my deposit in there an hour or less before the trash guy comes, I'm up at that time and doing shit anyway so its not out of character - fwiw.

We went to the local city dump just to dump some junk and they had ppl taking pictures of us the whole time. We were wonder WTF?? is going on then we saw them taking pictures of everyone and what they were dumping. Not that coco would matter but we did think that was weird. I understand it but it was still strange. peace out Headband707:)

wow people with hand cameras taking pics of you and the stuff you were dumping? that seems really strange. if they care so much why not set up cameras? i don't understand it, why would anyone care what you are dumping? i can understand them checking that its the right material going in the right place, but taking pics? how can they pay to take pics of everyone dumping stuff there?

Yeah they take pictures of you and your plates going in then others came out and took pictures of almost every item we threw out. I almost walked up and asked them "what was going on"? and then they moved onto the other ppl that were there aswell.. I assumed it's because ppl have been dumping illegal shit and this way they can retrace and charge you ??I'm not sure .. I know they came up and told us we couldn't dump drywall or paintcans etc. But it was weird.. peace out Headband707

Let it dry out, pull out as many roots as you can and then apply some of this wonder product...SCD BioAg.

These critters will digest the remaining roots and turn them into food. In addition to establishing themselves for your next crop.
