Yeah, and there are two giant caterpillars at 1:00. Are you really suggesting that the guy who wrote the medical bible overlooked these things? I take it as an attempt to accurately portray what goes on in all outdoor gardens. There's no way those shots would have been included otherwise.

As far as I can tell, the mites were on a plant in HL's garden, and we all know how spectacular and meticulously maintained it was. Goes to show that even the masters do battle with pests, and that there are a certain amount of "acceptable losses" with any garden of that size, no matter how masterful.

Look forward to the pics Trinity cause they do say a thousand words....if they're around get em up!

I think the construction of a Dep Dome wouldn't be terribly difficult.....some sort of light weight/durable mesh material with grommets at the base structure for the poles to stick into and then the dep fabric running on grommets over the poles....then again these type of things are always easier to construct in word form vs actual construction but maybe I'll give it a whack this year. Let's see some engineers build some shit. Tent construction guys would be the bees knees on this one.

I was still kind of interested in who might have had the largest yield for one plant this year...... alot of contenders, I thought I might have a chance till last July when I saw all of your pics.

The portable camping shower stall has a design like the picture above, only with more black -out material wrapped around it. Could be a slightly better jumping off point for the indy dep dome.

they make pop-up cubes for shade at the beach that are at least 5x5x5. integrate that with the light dep fabric and you've got a product. if anybody goes into production I would appreciate about 99 of em at cost.

One of these days I am going to find myself a partner who has product development skillz. I just don't have the time.
How many would 99 cost? Sounds like it would add up pretty fast. While VERY expensive Grobots look cool and automated. I thought they had individual manual units but guess not. I did look into heavy duty low rpm gear motors for a tumbler project and they were like almost $1,000. I always thought about building a system for personal use. A shame to spend like $5,000 for a Grobot system when you could build one yourself for much less.

yankee there is a thread that shows how to build such a contraption. ( i think calicoli may also have a similar thread) Also i like the idea of automatic pool covers style. on a timer, solar, with solar battery run exaust fan for night time humidity...haha when dreams come true i guess

or if your an og you just drop $$ here

Them greenhouses are nice...whoa! With a little ingenuity and planning I'm sure someone could put together a killer DIY system.

Pricey, they are, but when compared to the FF California Eclipse auto dep systems they look like a deal. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 1/3 the price per square foot.

Plus, when you consider the fact that a unit would pay for itself several times over the very first run, and the extent to which it would simplify life... seems like money well (or at leas justifiably) spent, assuming they provide consistent coverage without light leaks. IMO it's hard to put a price on the luxury of being able to take time away from the garden and still run multiple hassle-free deps per season. It would be awesome if someone here could chime in with a review...

Pretty much everything Forever Flowering sells seems ludicrously overpriced to me, and as far as commercial greenhouses go, the quality really doesn't seem like it's anything special. Other than their superior fabrics, I don't understand how they actually sell anything.

For applications in CA, if I was going to try to copy one of their designs, the "Retractable Series" looks the most doable. Unless I'm missing something, it's a pretty simple A-frame design with dep fabric suspended on cables running inside the skeleton, just below where a permanent roof would otherwise be. All you'd need would be a good amount of 1.5-2" tubing, decent welding skills, cables, a couple pool cover motors, and an industrial sewing machine to sew strips of fabric onto the dep material allowing it to be hung from the cables... maybe a project for next winter/spring.

On a semi-related note, this spring, for convenience's sake, I'm thinking of going with a greenhouse kit in lieu of building my own from scratch a la HL or trying to manually dep high tunnels to beat the weather. Because I don't have 6 figures to blow on a reasonably-sized FF unit (I wouldn't buy even if I had the cash, LOL) and it won't break my heart if I can't dep the thing, I'm pretty much settled on this one: http://www.poly-tex.com/pages/greenhouses/xa300/xa300.html, though I haven't decided on the size yet. I'm looking in the 2500-4500 square foot range. Bang for buck with these seems unmatched in terms of similar kits, and the real selling points for me are the excellent ventilation - you can never have too much - along with the generous height.

There are a bunch of reasons I have my mind set on a moderately big GH, but the strongest incentives are privacy/security and the potential for higher quality herb. I wish there was more action in the growing in greenhouses forum, but with a little luck I think we're going to see quite a few members with big plant gardens in greenies this coming season. We'll have to wait and see.

You do hav to like som of the design of those Forevers , one of those wud really puttin' one the ritz , very spacious . Like to get more dope on the true durability & longevity of the components & the fabric . Be nice to study one for sure , 45 x 60ft of the blackout fabric would run around $3700 alone & imagine they're running well into the $30-45k range ?

Pretty sure they'd be willing to cut a deal for next season (with 1/2 down mebe? ), hav som ppls that live in that area , need to hav them drop buy & see them in person, if they haven't already done .

Financing available :

"Financing is available to established Agricultural Business
owners. Whatever your plants need, Forever Flowering
Greenhouses has them covered.

Cute , guess that means you TG & nomad , lol...but sure they do mean US !

* But time to sit down at the drafting table & do some figuring ...pool cover
motors, tracks & solar panels & some structural framing .
Here we go ...all light dep thats finished by sept is sure
the wave to catch

I did well with a large hard-sided, pole barn style 'shop', covered with reinforced translucent gh plastic. Ventilation was handled with passive screened vents and shutter exhaust fans with the capacity to replace the total air mass every few minutes. Whole wazoo for under 5k when diy... fits your privacy/security, and minimum size criteria too. Fairly easy to protect with today's wireless security systems (and sleeping inside for the last month... ugh). edit: Keeps a bunch of the animal/insect critters out too. :)

I mentioned some improvements I would have made with the system in an earlier posting. I did this one on the cheap.

Internal horizontal blackout shading could be set up without too much trouble from what I've seen, I'm not quite there yet.

I agree with the last part too.... easy.

Just for the record, my garden begins in the shot immediately following the shot with the caterpillars.

I've been through pretty much every greenhouse site on the net, or every one I could find at least, and was seeing many of the same products being sold by different vendors, so I decided it would be best to go directly to the manufacturer (Poly-Tex in the case of the GH I've got my eye on) instead of dealing with a huge retailer like greenhouse megastore.

I'll throw a few more links up here that might help people looking into GHs of one kind or another:
http://www.gothicarchgreenhouses.com/
http://www.griffins.com/home/catalog.asp

http://www.greenhouseworld.com/
http://www.builditsolar.com/Projects/Sunspace/sunspaces.htm#Greenhouse Plans
http://www.creativeshelters.com/

Good luck with the FF clone project! I'm sure I'm not the only one that's very interested to see how it works out for you.

Cheers

Recently Peaceful Valley has been messing up with my orders, after 2 weeks of no shipping conformation I call their customer service and it turns out the Brix Mix I ordered 2 weeks back they have discontinued, forever.

Where can a guy purchase Brix Mix? Or does anybody know a recipe for it?
