Moving to Oaksterdam!

Hey guys, I'm new here, and will soon (1 year or so) be moving to the US from Sweden, and attend to the horticulture classes in Oakland.
So my questions and what i want to know is:
1. Is it easy to get an apartment, and what are the circa rental costs?
2. Where should i search an apartment(before i get there)?
3. How does the law abide to me if i were to try to get a MMJ card?

Frankly i don't know much about this category, but its more than just dreaming. I want to know what you guys think about this idea, give me some tips and advices what to do and such.

Thanks in advance :dance013:

I don't know if Oakland CA is the best place for a guy right off the boat from Sweden.

But hey, if it's your dream, then go for it.
Good Luck!

lol, Oaktown can be hard core. It has it's nice places also. As far as rent..... you can find an apartment right now but it isn't cheap. I would guess around $1000 a month for a 1 bed apartment in a fairly crappy neighborhood. If I were you I would look into San Francisco. It is just across the bay (about 30 min drive time from Oakland) and is much nicer and crime isn't as bad. Rent is a little more expensive.

As far as getting a cannabis card, there are doctors everywhere that do these scripts. Do you have a valid medical issue? Do you have medical records you can show this doctor? If the answer to those questions was yes, then you will have no problem. If no to both of those, then you can still get a card, you just have to ask the right doctor. I am sure it wont be hard to do either way.

If you are going to Oaksterdam U, then that area of Oakland has doctors and cannabis clubs and co-ops all within 2 blocks of the university. You could get your script, get your cannabis card, get some herb from your first dispensary, then go to class all in the same day without walking more than 5 blocks total.

"

You can add to that buy your hydro set up, and fill it with clones from a dispensary all in the same day without walking more than 5 blocks.

Is there any website u guys would recommend to search an apartment, or just a garage apartment, or whatever just to live in a while or so :)

Oakland is a tough town.

I recommend you find someone living in the area currently to get a better idea about safe neighborhoods to live in. Depending on your money situation, you might find living in Berkeley to be more to your tastes, but keep in mind that the bay area is an expensive area for housing and cost of living in general.

Hello Oakland!

Here's what u do: stay at the Bay Bridge Inn while taking classes and looking at spaces on craigslist. It's the cheapest hotel in town, in a sketchy but not dangerous hood, and if u find a dead hooker in your room you stay for free.

Now that u have friends/connections (at OU) and and understanding of the city (uptown vs coliseum) it will become clear to you what path to follow

In that case, rent a house or live/work warehouse and blow it up.

What type of job r u planning on getting in Oakland?
All I know is, OU ain't hiring unless ur a drone.

Oakland was just rated the 5th most dangerous city in the US a couple of days ago. I'm not trying to scare you just give you a heads up. And with that said, I frequent Oakland as I live in the Bay Area so it can be navigated problem free. Berkeley is an excellent idea as it is more diverse than Oakland due to the University and it's literally right there next to Oakland. Whatever you do be careful and always best of luck to you.

come on guys oakland is not that bad. i lived here all my life went to most of the worst schools you ever stepped your foot in but have the best teachers.
with that kind of money get a 2 bedroom in a cool area and soon enough well see a grow journal from you.
shit matter of fact we can trade. you can stay at my place for half a year and i stay in yours but you have to have some good for me to smoke.

hey bro good luck your gonna get a rude dose of american in oakland though lol -=]

Like I said it can be navigated problem free, but thats a lot easier for me or dontcha because we are from the area and know whats going on, whereas it might be a little harder for someone moving from another country to Oakland. Just giving him the heads Up. Thats all.

I thought you had to be homeless to actually live in Oaksterdam!! JK.. but you would be better off not mentioning that you have 50k and no idea about the city you are moving too. My advice is get a place in San Rafael/San Ramon and look at Oaktown from across the water like all the other swedish nannies get to do! Not the best place for folks right off the boat. You can get scripts anywhere in Cali so no real need to be in that shithole other than to visit. Stay safe where ever you land.

I think that house swap dealio sounds like the way to go. Dontchakno gets to chase the Swedish swimsuit team while you get used to living with bars on the windows and doors.

LOL Btw, I'm guessing most anyone who lives anywhere their entire life might get to thinking that place can't be all that bad.

On the other hand, I've lived all around the world and learned more than my fair share of new tricks, hustles and scams in Oakland CA....
