my point was to the price goughing going on in the glass industry.......it costs no more than 100 dollars labor included to manufacture one of those........i dont agree with pot people ripping off pot people or anyone ripping off anyone for that matter

i agree on ripping people off, but to say they are gouging in my opinion is off. they are running a business (which i also do, so i know what it takes to make it successful) and in order to make it work you have to turn a profit, pot people or not, they're running a business. also, i highly doubt they're make any of the double worked perc tubes for under 100$ including labor, material (which most guys are using high end glass 3x what traditional costs), rent or mortgage, insurance, marketing, logistics, ect, ect.. sometimes people only see the $ and seem to forget that they do this for a living, to pay bills and feed their families.

i should note, when i say i spent a grand last night i should of listed what i got for a g.
toro circ to circ with worked middle section 675 (retail) 607.50 (my price)
toro circ swiss arm ash catcher w/ mouth piece 290 (retail) 261.00 (my price)
4 x toro pince slides @ 25/piece 100 (retail) 90 (my price)
2 x 18 mm worked slides @ 40/piece 80 (retail) 72 (my price)
2 x grunge off cleaners @ 15/piece 30 (retail) 27 (my price)

Yea the prices on some pieces are pretty ridiculous but there is way more than $100 of materials & man hours in a toro, soverignty, J. Lee, ect.. so not really a rip off for those tubes or a sick J.Lee bub. I do think that some slides though are very overpriced.

I would love to own a few of those I really would but I will not pay that kind of money....
I recently spent 200 on a sheldon black straight tube thats 4 mm thick even at the joint and stands 10 inches high thats 20 bucks a inch.....now I have to get a ash catcher with a tree arm perc that will run another 100-150.....so thats 350.....which I think is ridiculous
but do able but honestly how much better can a toro hit compared to my sheldon,to merit the 4x the $ price tag ?

Thanks for the cool comments everyone.

icon: That pipe is awesome! Is it made out of a deer antler?

your bong is killer man looks like it came off a pirate shipwreck

Personally, I don't think we should discuss prices or try to compare pieces as it always turns this thread into a storm of insults. Prices like art are subjective, if you like a piece and you can afford it, why not buy it? I look at this thread to admire other peoples pipe/bong collections. :ying:

havnt tried a sheldon yet, but the toro is extremely smooth. how do you like your sheldon? i plan on adding one to the collection at some point. when you get an ash catcher, look for a showerhead or circ of some sort. they seem to diffuse allot better then a standard tree perc. ive seen a few on aqualabs priced pretty good (150-200).

bionic, i actually hope to recieve it today from fedex. unfortunately, i'm completely computer illiterate and still havnt figured out how to post pics. always been a little nervous to post pics on the net also. maybe i can have my girl take a few this weekend and have her post them for me.

respect, peace, and pot

the sheldon hits nice and is equiped with a showerhead diffuser which is why I want the tree arm perc in the ash catcher...Also want it to be sheldon black

My new Mobius Glassworks Nano - showerhead style perc with ash catcher

Whats up fellow smokers? Here's a few pics of my new bong!
I picked up this bong at my local glass shop, Humboldt Glassblowers. The bong was $260 with the bowl and the Left Coast ash catcher was $60 by its self.

Here's some specs:
Nano
12" tall
38x4mm top
50x5mm perc sleeve
60x5mm base

Very high quality glass.............. 5 out of 5 stars!

Well just to add my .02 I'd like to say I was once a big non believer in fancy glass.

But in the last five years especially there has been a certain movement to incorporate science into toking paraphernalia. Its really genius and I recommend them to any older toker who thinks they've tried it all. I'd seen endless bongs and really figured they were pretty similar but they are not. A properly designed bong smokes so much endlessly smoother than old school bongs its not even funny. Inline diffusers, tree percs, etc. They are amazing. Whats been termed "science glass" is the greatest thing to happen to us since sensimilla. I thought they were gimmicks. They are not, and they are here to stay.

That being said its the science at work not the name. People turned bongs into a status item like gucci or something. If pressed people will say they like the fashion or whatever but really its a display of money. Also IMHO people who have excessive pot habits often try to make it seem esoteric and elite so it doesn't look so bad. Like smoking $600 dollars of weed a month out of a gatorade bottle and wrench socket is ghetto, but doing it with a 1200 dollar toro is gangsta.

There is a lot of great glass out there for very reasonable prices that have all the bells and whistles. I just get mad when someone who has an identical pipe in every dimension to someone else will argue theirs smokes better because of a brand name.

As far as the headie glass art goes, I guess I'm lucky there. 99.99% of it I see I think is gaudy and tacky. Usually when I see an expensive piece I'd be embarrassed to own it. They conjure images in my head of bedazzled skulls on hats cocked sideways. Graffiti art of chinese dragons on pairs of jeans. Cars from Too fast 2 Furious. That sort of stuff. But art is not for everyone, and if you do see it as art then its worth its value in the eyes of the beholder.
