does it exist? I don't know of any legit jobs really that have absolutely no standards for who they hire, what I'm asking for is: any kind of medium to short term (I'm talking for less than 2 years, but more like 3-6 months) employment you can get if only you're willing and for the most part clean?

I have no criminal background, I'm 23, male, and I'm a u.s. citizen, only speak english, graduated from highschool and withdrew from a community college...

twice...

no relevant work history for anything I could come up with (unless there are dockhands that make espresso drinks somewhere?)

I'm joining the Navy with my best friend after he gets out of jail sometime in mid December. the thing is, it won't be that day or possibly even that month. and who knows, we might take 12+/- months to just hang out and waste some more of life while we're still young, which is irresponsible yes but not a discussion point.

I'm willing to move to a foreign country, get my hands dirty, my feet wet, and my heart & soul & tender areas* touched.

I'll do any kind of work as long as it isn't life threatening (it's okay if a job carries the possibility of injury or death as long it isn't a probability)
it also should not conflict with my personal commitment to enlist in the military

something my friend could do with me is preferred, but I'd still like to know if there's anything I could do.

no I am not too lazy to search for myself, I have, I just haven't found a whole lot.

ty in advance

mcdonalds will not hire just anyone

you have to pretty much be in some kind of poverty situation or mentally retarded. j/k

i just got a job at a small manufacturing facility, 1 interview no drug test boom job. i dont make shit though. but after 90 days i get a raise and benefits. i think the low starting is becasue of a large turnaround rate on new hires.

no reason you cant use a fluch kit to pass a test if need be. the economy is fucked but theres still jobs out there. after 9 months of searching i got two job offers. failed a drug test forr one though. w/e the job i got is closer but pays less

yeah.

is there some sort of industry that is known for being easy to get into? some sort of transitory work?

I mean I wouldn't mind moving to Canada or south america and working in some huge labor project for really good pay. that sort of thing.

why don't you try temp agency for temp work, you can tell the temp worker your looking for a job but for so many months and see what's available ese`.

As for your homie if he is in jail what are his chances he will get into the military and if he decides he doesn't want to go into the military your entire time was spent waisted, make your own way in life my friend and open doors and depend on you and you only as you can't make things happend with if's it has to be now's.

Yes there is a solid industry in this economy. The Alaska seafood industry, google it you will find links and links. Criminal background isn't a problem,if you have one you might make shift supervisor lol.I worked with Norquest on the M.V. Pribilof. Work shifts were 12-18/hr days. Pay is minimum wage $7.75/hr plus bonus. Completion of contract bonus was $1 for every regular hour and $1.50 for every overtime hour, plus a weight bonus of $200 for every million pounds processed,we were pushing 120,000 pounds a day. When it gets going it's 12 hours one day 18 the next, they appreciate if you work 18's back to back.We called it the Pribilof stare. You will walk away with wad and a different outlook about work.

I've put in applications to a couple temp agencies and labor finders that told me I'd get a phone call if they found something for me but nothing yet.

and he wants to join, if he decides that he doesn't at the last minute then fuck, that would suck but I doubt he would do that. this is his first time getting in trouble and it's over something minor, I think anyways, and I know he's probably eligible for enlistment. Especially with the score he'll most likely get on the asvab (I assume he'll score high, he's a smart cookie) I doubt they wouldn't take him.

I can't pass a drug test right now as it is so I have to wait anyways before I can go get processed sign my contract

I'm looking for something closer to this:

i've got tons of applications and resumes submitted to restaurants/retail stores/warehouses/etc, anything local that has advertised open entry-level positions has received my application.

i get interviews, especially from cafes or places with coffee bars, but it never goes past that.
i had an interview yesterday at a clothing store.
before the interview i had only been inside once, and that was when i requested an application which i filled out in my car. it was filled with teen girls and there were all girls and one male working, blasting lady gaga over the store radio.
i wore a plaid shirt and tucked it in, mainly just to hide my tattoo on my forearm, and i also wore a pair of khakis which fit nice and actually look good on me, but my shoes are a pair of old brown puma slip ons that have milk stains accumulated over the past 8 months since i got them from getting steamed milk spilled on them all the time. they have a couple holes in them and look like i run through mud puddles but they're the only shoes i have.
my hair also looks fucking crazy, it's getting longer and when it gets longer it starts to curl and form ringlets but i sort of look homeless... haven't had money... period, so i haven't had my hair cut in like a month

before the interview i got an "applicant test"
the questions included:
name 3 style trends
name 2 different types of jeans
describe a creative way in which clothing can be altered
who is your favorite celebrity and why?
what is a style or trend you feel is outdated and should not be continued?
do you like fashion and where is your favorite place to shop?

and during the actual interview i had some girl a year or two younger than me asking me to tell her about myself and then just staring at me with these dead rodent eyes and then told me to go around the store, put together a creative and trendy outfit and come back and try and sell it to her.

i walked around the store for about 30 seconds before i started to feel like an ass, staring at plaid shorts drawing a blank as to what the fuck i'm doing right now.

i came back and said you probably aren't going to give me this job are you and she said no, sorry sweetie.

you have to become more conservative. At the very least...cut your hair and get some clean looking clothes and shoes. The first impression is they most important part of any hiring process.

Probably why you don't get call backs. And, don't forget...many companies are not hiring....they are acquiring resumes for the future when business picks up.

Just keep plugging away, something will happen.

Phone sales or phone survey's. Verry scummy places but if you can sell you can work. And some pay decent. Surveys pay shot but it's better than begging.

try the construction trades , painting, framing , brick and block layers , flooring companys need labors to learn carpet and wood flooring . heating and air , plumbing , lawn serveices , snow removal. all these trades in some areas are easy to get hired in. but some one in a previos post said it best . live for your self. if you want to join military then do it. but just dont waste that year not learning something.:tiphat:

hmm. I am heading out the door in about 5 mins, there are four new places advertising opening requesting in person applications, so it's time to go burn more gas and sit in traffic for nothing again.

anyone have any experience with day laboring?
i called a labor finder service and they said if i come out in the mornings at like 5 i might be able to find something, but i need to have my own steel toed boots and in most cases my own tools and in almost all cases prior experience.

shit sucks.
and my coffee maker doesnt work anymore.

Day labor is fine if they have work. You line up at 5-5:30 with no guarantee of assignment. If your living in a part of the country that is in a severe economic slowdown you will find nothing in day labor. Day labor company's that I have had success with are Manpower and Labor Ready.I got the processing job when I went to Seattle and did a one week job with Labor Ready.A guy on the ship ask me if I had any plans for the next six months. You do have to pass a wizz quizz.

i tried to give you rep for that interview story, but it says i need to spread it around a little :joint:

look for your local department of labor office, check out some of the local union halls for different trades in your area (in my experience, any job in the manufacturing/construction/warehousing/labor industries are going to require you to have steel toed boots and your own transportation). you might want to hurry up and take their apprenticeship exams before you turn 24, also :joint:

good luck man, i hope everything works out!
