is my tap water ok to use?

Hey all so I finally got a ph/ppm meter(hannah) and tested my tap water.
It reads 68 ppm and has a ph of 8.4.
I know the ph is high but that usually goes wayy down when I add nutes. Is my water ok to use? assuming its relatively stable

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I'm just not sure
Thanks in advance

68ppm is really low, lower than a lot of bottled water. unless there is something odd in there you're good to go.

I've been hauling gallons of water for 3 grows lol thanks for the response guys...
should I still let it sit out for 24hours before using it?

Your tap is fine for bathing or drinking, but it is not for the girls it contains Chloramine which is basically Chlorine bonded with Ammonia (I said basically so organic chemistry majors chill).Chloramine will kill the Mycorrhizae.Bottled water is fine, but expensive over the long run, machine water at the grocery stores is fine, but because it is deionized it will wear out the bulbs on your ph tester.Get a Hydrologic it will cost one penny a gallon.

tap water is ok as long as you let it sit in a container without a top for 48 hrs so all the clorine will evaporate out that is the only draw back to city water is the salts it can form if used strait from the tap indoors i even air my outdoor gardens water in 5 gallon buckets

I never bother leaving my tap water out over night. I'm just lazy so I don't but there are some people who believe that the chlorine actually helps keep their rez healthy.

My first grow book told me to leave the water out overnight, but then you look at all the grows of people who don't do that and it makes you wonder.

If your concerned with your water quality get it tested... If your on city/town water ask for the water report......ppm under 300 is fine, just adjust p.h.

How in the hell do you know it has chloramine? Not all tap water has that nasty shit in it. A lot still has plain ole chlorine which is easy to get rid of by letting it sit out for 24 hours, pouring it from container to container in the direct sun will also kill it off. Not to mention about a tablrepoon of molasses per gallon destroys it as well.

I'll add organics or nutes and let it bubble 24 hours with every 3rd watering coming straight from the hose. My ph is around 7.2.

I live in San Francisco.I have seen the water analysis report.I study Organic Chemistry.Chlorine has not been used for ten years, they use Chloramine.Check wikipedia

Yes.
I use my 300ppm tap water, you should be golden.

Is that tap water or is it well water? My well water comes out at 3-350 that's even after the system usually.. My city tap is at 150 and I use it with no issues..

Evlme I ask you cause I know you run coco and was wondering about using my well water during flower.. I've ran the well water through my ro system and get it down to about 130-160 but it takes ages to fill my rez's.. And the city water bill comes high sometimes..

I was having all kinds of problems with yellowing/sick looking plants in veg.I was sure it was the water here.I went and bought a dupont spigot filter from walmart. The unit and 1 filter is 28 bucks ,3 replacment filters were 25...Each one does 100 gallons ,So for 52 bucks i can do 400 gallons...I noticed a change within 2 days ,all is healthy and happy now.
They use clorine here i can smell it,i can't bottle up and wait overnite.Seems to work well.

You should not have any problems with chloramine UNLESS you are running beneficial bacteria or anything with beneficials in it. It kills the good and bad. If you are running chemical nutes you are probably golden. Also the sitting out rule does not apply to chloramine. From what I read it seems anyone that has chloramine in the water supply should know about it since it will kill fish. The guy at the water plant told me this yesterday when I called asking about our water supply.

68-PPM is very close to pure water. Most tap water is in the 400s or higher. Example: Arrowhead bottled water is 250-ppm last time I checked it. My RO system gets it from 500-ppm to 10-ppm. I change my filter at 50-ppm (every two years or less).

I want to think you have some of the best city water on earth, but I would not jump to that conclusion until calibrating or trying another meter. Just seems real low to me.

If your water is infact 68-ppm, then letting it sit over night in a 5 gallon bucket would be wise (no matter what you have heard).

Lets hope you got it right and you don't need to filter your water.

Lucky to be you, Rumple.

Hey guys thanks for all the replies. I'm running house and garden this round so I don't think its organic so I think ill use the tap.. I bought meter yesterday and had it calibrated and also just went there for bamboo sticks and asked them to re calibrate it. Just tested the tap and its 76 ppm and 8.4 ph. So I think I'm good, I appreciate all the replies thanks guys
