my tent

I finally got into the grow room today after having my medical conditions flare up for the past few days and have some bad news, one of the cherry candy fuel clones might be dead :( I couldn't water the plants for 3 days and it was just a little too long for that one cut, but the rest of the plants are looking good so thats something I guess.

I transplanted the seedlings into much bigger pots. The soil was really dry so it mostly broke away leaving the roots behind. Some of the roots were about 45cm long and looked nice, its a shame my hands were grubby as or I would have taken some pics. Anyway, I clumped the roots together and only just buried them so they have the most possibly space to dig. I'll have to water them daily for the next week or so to ensure they survive, but it'll be worth it.

I'll update again in a few days once they have recovered and then it'll be back to weekly updates

Well I fucked up.

I didn't test the pH of the soil I bought and even though I believed I was doing everything right by my plants, the pH of the soil was so high that it was toxic to my plants....I highly recommend staying clear of this shitty soil which comes from bunnings.
DSCF1636.jpg

To give you an idea of how high the pH was, I flushed with about 50L at 6.5 pH and the run off was still off the chart. I cracked the shits and decided I was going to win this war so I put 3 full caps of pH down to 1.25L of water and gave it to the plant. The run off tested at 6.0 pH... I have no idea how high the alkaline side of the pH scale goes, but I know the pH of the soil must have been crazy for it to take such a beating and to have the run off almost test perfect.

So in short the seedlings should finally be fine now and the cuttings have been doing great all along. I also found out I'm getting stawberry dawg next week so things are looking better already :) I'll update next week and instead of everything looking shitty as, it should all be looking very nice indeed.

hows things,! - looking good so far eh"

Just wanted to point out that the tents aren't exactly 100% light leak proof, well im not so sure about the mylar lined ones like yours, yet the other types do have few tiny light leak holes and pays to keep curtians pulled accross 24/7 in the room the tents in of course,

Your probably doing this or simillar anyhow, but you'd be amazed at how many folk think other wise and wonder why things went seedy etc on them,

Good luck with the grow, good genetics are a grand start also, so you should do just fine here, looking forward to seeing em grow up now.

Thanks squiggles and like you I will never use that soil again. Unlike you though I will be staying well clear of soil from now on. I dont know why, but soil and me just don't mix. I have never had a decent plant grown in it before so I'm going to stick to keeping my mothers in coco and then using clayballs in a recirculating system from now on. Growing hydroponically is much easier to control, you get a better yield and you get a purer taste as there is no soil which alters the taste of the final product. Soil can kiss my arse, especially if it comes from bunnings :moon:

Bambi the tent leaks a little light where there is stitching, a zipper or a flap, but no light can get in the tent at all. The bedroom the tent is in has 2 windows and I sealed them up very well using some really thick panda film which I pinned to the window frames. I was even able to keep the blinds in place so to the outside world it looks like any normal window. Inside it looks suspect, but then again you'll see, smell and feel my exhaust before you see the blacked out windows lol

There is good news and bad news with this update...
Bad News:
The cuttings are all severely rootbound
My precious ccf#1 cut died

Good News:
No more pH problems
Seedlings are tons healthier and growing again

I'm waiting on a ton of coco to arrive early next week which is when I'll be transplanting the cuttings into much larger pots. The seedlings will then be moved to the outer edges of the tent while the cuttings will take over and become the main focus of this grow. I'll probably be taking cuttings in a week or so as well and because of all the bullshit I have experienced with soil I will most likely chop down all the seedlings and try to make cuttings out of them. God I hate soil :cuss:

Looking good m8, shouldn't be long before the new cuts get growing.
A pity about the CCF#1 cut, as it turned out to be an intermediate pheno not a Cherry pheno as I first thought.

God I hate soil
hehehe :whistling:

there looking great :D good news bout the seedlings becoming healthy

mine fixed themselves who knows what was wrong with them...

happy growing :)

I got some coco today and spent well over 3 hours transplanting my cuttings and watering the seedlings. My medical conditions are to blame for it taking so long, but they're also to blame for me taking short breaks and capturing some root porn for all of you to enjoy :canabis:

:canabis: Love the root porn mate, very nice. Been eyeballing tent grows i have just set one up myself. Giving soil a go this time so i'll just tag along on your thread here and hopefully pick up some good tips. Good luck with it all mate and cant wait for your next update.

Thanks guys :)

kerlito I don't think humidity could be an issue where I live as it seems to rain 3-5 times a day here. Seriously if a British person moved here for a month, especially in July, they'd be begging to go back home where the weather is perfect lol

Tents are awesome bundy :) They make things so much easier, especially for people who rent. As for soil though I recommend staying away from it, but I'm biased and bought the cheapest soil I could which nearly killed my plants so thats my excuse lol If you must use soil though buy a high grade soil thats slightly acidic or make your own as it will save you a lot of pain in the end.

I didnt buy the 'cheap' stuff. I went for their 'premimium potting mix'. It was fucking infested with root aphids and fungus gnats. There is nothing you can do about this when buying soil, its a living breathing organism which inst sealed so anything can get inside. Bunnings told me, a forklift must have ripped open the bag and were willing to replace it. funny i didnt see any rips.:fight:

I refused as I do not want a bigger problem to deal with. I have found sri lankan coco which is pre- treated, so far no hitches.

Caution
When you buy your soil, Dont bring it into the grow room, or near your plants. Leave it in an open area. Get some mosquito dunks, drop a couple on top of the bag. Leave it out there for at least a whole week. they are very effective in killing unhatched larvae in your medium. remember not to contaminate your grow area guys, because were rolling into summer now and heat usually does not help. :gday:

Other than my Jack Herer cutting looking 3/4 dead and some seedlings not far off, there isn't a whole lot to report this week. Most of the seedlings have recovered well, the plants grown from cuttings are taking off since being transplanted and soon I'll be taking a big batch of cuttings :)

There's pictures of all the cuttings and a group shot. I could probably tell whats in each pic from looking at them, but I forgot to label the pictures and I have a shit memory so have fun working out what strain is in each pic

Yeah i hear ya mate, i made up my own dirt which comprised of mushroom compost, organic potting mix, perlite, coco brick and some lime and let it break down for 6 weeks. Here i thought i was doing well, i raised a heap of seeds, put them in 8 inch pots with this mix and it is like they just stopped growing. I think the soil i made is fucked as they are just sitting there and starting to yellow.

I have 10 more beans just sprouted and they are 4 times as big already. I usually grow on water but wanted to do at least one soil grow in my life, and have nothing but trouble. Back to the drawing board so they say for me i think and hopefully get something going so i can recover some $ for my efforts and lost light time.

By the sounds of things that should have been a good mix for your girls bundy. Have you given the soil a flush yet? I thought I was screwing my girls over but as it turned out the pH of my soil was toxic to most plant life and I didn't find out until I tested the run off after flushing them.

For some reason my text edit of this post didn't work, but the picture I uploaded during that edit still does....anyways I got 50 rockwool cubes and some dutchmaster gold cloning gel the other day. Needless to say I'm going to make the most of them :)

That is a small tent for a lot of plants. Are all the plants staying in those containers or are you finishing them in bigger pots? That tent will fill in super FAST once u start flowering, you may get over crowded
