12/12 From Seed: A Different Way To Grow

4

420tyme

Alright, here's an update with photos. This is all random bagseed. I lost two plants due to male, and one plant to hermie. The plants all germinated by the third day, showed sex on day 22-24, and have been flowering for a little more than a week now. Just a couple photos from start to where I am now. I appologize for some of the quality of the pictures. I also started LST approx. a week or so ago. They're adjusting nicely. I am currently on day 38 from germination.

your plants are looking good my man

this is my first 12/12

i hope mine turns out as good as yours lol !!

i have a quick question in regards to 12/12 from seed and strains

do some strains work better on 12/12 from seed than others ? let me explain

after my last grow with 12/12 from seed i noticed that blue cheese 70% sativa x 30 % indica did well using this method

is this because of the staiva influence where sativas tend to grow 3 times as bigger in flower than indicas

indica strains will stay small where as sativas will grow tall, i think it would be a good experiment for some 1 to try maybe an indica strain vs a sativa strain 12/12 from seed to compare results

i do have both 100% sativa and 100% indica strains in my fridge but cant run an experiment at the present moment but it would be interesting to see what you guys think

im just trying to work out wether sativas or sativa dominant x indicas are better for 12/12 from seed over just indicas :)

peace

Yeah, I LST'd all my plants and theyre growing on 12/12. I started my LST extremely late though, def. gotta do it sooner on my next grow.

Skotty, Sativa dominant plants, or pure sativas are better to grow in 12/12 from seed, and some of them need to be grown 12/12 from seed to keep control of them indoors, or they will outgrow your room. This is because Sativa's mainly originate in tropical or sub-tropical reagions where the difference between summer and winter is not that great, and they often grow in 14 or 13 hours of light there entire lives and still hit 10 feet. Sativa's also take longer to flower than indica's, this is due to them having this luxury in their natural enviroment. Indica's usual originate in Mountainous or semi-arid regions, and so have to finnish flowering quickly, before the frost kicks in.
Sativa's or 75% sativa plants are the best choice for 12/12, as far as indica's are concerned, most need at least 30 days of veg for best results, some may need up to 3 months depending on the size you want your final beauty.

I think different strains do possibly work better. I would like to think that strains that are located closest to the equator (where 12/12 is normal naturally) would do better than strains that are found furthest away from the equator where there is a greater natural fluctuation in the light cycle. As far as the details of this, or how accurate it is, that's something I would definitely be interested in finding out. Lets all grow some bud on 12/12 and compare notes :)

this is exactly the way i was thinking, im not gonna bother wasting my time with indica strains doing 12/12 from seed but concentrate on sativas or sat dom and hopefully with a bit of topping and lst create some nice plants :)

cheers for the reply

Hello everyone :)
I ve got a little question for you

I will have only 80-85 days for my next grow and I want to make maximum of what I ve got.
So it is more like a challenge :)
I decided to go "12/12 from seed" way with ak48 fems from Nirvana.
And then when I was counting days and deadlines a question was born:

~7 days to preveg
-----------
{1rst: 14-21 days before starting to bloom under 12/12}
or
{2nd: 2weeks veg 18/6 and then 1 week to switch for flowering}
-----------
~50-55 day bloom
=~83days max in both cases

Which one would be better the 1rst or the 2nd?
What is best choice: "no veg at all" or little veg?

AK48 grown 12/12 from seed will show sex within 16-22days from germination finish within 10-11weeks from start to finish

Giving a week veg will work as well if not slightly better but minimum differences really

males can show as early as day 15-18 (from sprouting), females usually start to show by day 19-21

it all depends on growth rates and strain of course..

Whether it is sativa or indica depends on what the seed came from. Was this a bag seed? If so then it is hard to tell about what line it came from. Have any info at all on the weed the seed came from? If it was schwag mexican pressed pot, then it will most likely be a very heavy sativa dominant hybrid. Most any bag seeds will be of a hybrid of some sorts.
By the looks of your plants leaves (not always the best indicator of line) there is some indica in the mix.

Flowering from seeds often makes things take a little longer to happen. If we let a seedling veg a bit and mature, it is more ready to flower when placed into a 12.12 lighting schedule, than a seedling of the very same line placed immediately in flower. The seedling is still maturing, but it also has to deal with getting it's roots planted, dealing with the stress of a photo period trigger, as well as the stress you are placing on it by LST.
So don't be surprised if things take a bit longer to materialize, including showing of sex.
Once it is ready, it will take off.
But from my experience, if you have a known line that you know finishes in 8 weeks when it has been vegged until sexual maturity before 12.12, then running it from seed you can expect to need another week or two (or three) of the 12.12 lighting than the mature plant did.

By day 22 you will very soon, if not now, be able to sex the plant. There should be a node or two at least that has a flower starting. I trust you know how to identify the sexes?

By the way, IMO it is a good thing to stress a seedling very early like you have. It tends to bring out the hermy traits early (if they exist in dominant fashion) so you can identify them and cull.
It is always a good idea to pop several when doing a 12.12 from seed, even if you only have room for one or two to grow full term. Very disheartening to care for one seed plant only to find out three or four weeks later that it is a male and you need to start over.
