all utilities included apartment- can I grow?

I would say electricity consumption with a 400w is the least of your worries. Since it's a small apt, stealth, smell and sound should be your primary concerns. Think about how many items in your place can use more electricity. I have my flatscreen, xbox360, laptop, Wii, 2 guitar amps, a roomate with a flatscreen, pc, PS3, and 2 guitar amps as well. Plus all other regular appliances(fridge, stove, microwave, toaster, ice chest) An extra 400w added to that is nothing. It wouldn't take more than a look in the living room from the landlord to see where most of the power consumption is coming from. If you can keep it out of sight, i say go for it. Too many paranoid ppl on here.

consider the cost of running the stove or oven and televisions and refrigerators and computers and lights and air conditioners and heaters and just even out the usage by using them all less. 400 watts above average usage will not raise any alarm bells anywhere though but being paranoid will keep you out of danger. dont leave the television on when you arent using it and turn off the computer when you arent using it. use florescent lighting where possible and if for some reason someone complains just tell em you'll turn the tv and computer off at night and take down the grow till you get an led lamp or move somewhere better.

I would vote on no for being in an apartment. 400 w isn't much, its what i've got now. When started I just tried to be conscientious of the power, and switched to a laptop instead of running pc. I would be more concerned about the smell. It took some time to figure that one out in my house, and nobody was allowed in the house through flowering because the smell was obvious as soon as you opened the front door. In an apartment scenario that could be dangerous. So if you do make sure you've got your carbon scrubber figured out.

i MUST be doing something wrong. #'s from $300??

Here's an example.

Well.... I get around 10oz+/- from 20gals of soil.. which costs me around $35.00 including amends and EJ costs.. Electricity for that run would cost an additional $40.

So $75 for me to grow 10oz. $300 worth of soil and/electricity should yield me around 40oz at that rate, or 2.5lbs.

That's just my miniscule CFL setup. What am I missing besides time? I guess there are other costs that involve the initial setup costs, but once you've got everything you need you can def. pull #'s from $300 of supplies, no doubt. I want my HIDs!

i ran a cabinet with a 600 W hps on 12/12 and 6" vortex 24hrs. this was in a rented basement. electricity bills went to landlord upstairs. never heard anything about it. i was more worried about the sound of the vortex getting through the ceiling. i just paid my rent, and grew my weed. definitely not for medical reasons.

that being said, i don't recommend it to anyone. looking back, it was a pretty shortsighted idea and i could have gotten fucked. however i did get half a pound of nycd out of it. which was nice.
